Genesis Tale Of Light And Shadow - Chapter 3 School Life
After visiting Pyxie, Kigen, ran all the way across from her house and to the school, thus managing to meet up with his friends before the bell rang. It was sadly that time of year, it had begun, school, Kigen’s worst nightmare. The moment he stepped onto the school ground, everyone stared at him as if he was an ex-convict, which he didn’t like as he wanted to be like the grey man who’s always there in the background but is never acknowledged as his presence is low and never stands out. He had grown out of the phase where he wanted to be noticed by people which was back in primary school. And now, being in high school, the shitty reputation he had still haunted him. In an attempt to clear his mind off the numerous death stare he was getting, decided to start a conversation with the others.
“Isn’t it great to be here again.” He stated sarcastically.
“Guys, Kigen is being sarcastic for once, isn’t that Summer’s job?” Kygo asked, baffled by Kigen’s unusual manner of speech.
“Speaking of Summer, where is she?” Anki enquired.
“Look over there, she’s with her crew. Just leave her alone.” Kigen replied, answering Anki’s question.
Being pretty and smart, automatically made Summer into one of the popular girls on campus. On top of that, being a member of the student council also raise her reputation among the students. As expected, after having the shortest conversation while walking together with Anki and Kygo, Kigen was ultimately left by his lonesome as they both went to greet and hang with their respective group.
Kygo was the big brother type of guy, he was well built, had tanned skin, brown eyes, dark hair, and a sharp jawline. He was also physically stronger than anyone else around him, making him a very good athlete. Meanwhile, Anki was your usual pretty boy; blonde hair, and a lighter shade of brown tanned skin, almond-shaped blue eyes accompanied with a pointy nose. Just looking at him, even though he was clumsy, you could tell he was popular among the girls. And finally, Summer. She had long whitish-grey hair, probably dyed it, emerald colored eyes, a pointy nose, and rosy cheeks. She was a bombshell, and let’s not get started about how beautiful her body was, tall, and heavily loaded both on the upper and lower areas, basically a model if she wasn’t studying.
“Should have known that this would have happened.” He thought to himself as he slowly made way towards the class.
Being himself, the teacher gave him the furthest away seat which at the complete back of the classroom. The walk from the door and to his desk felt like an eternity. Pair that with the gossiping student talking smack about him as he passed by, and you got a great cocktail of pure anger. Ignoring everything else happening around him, he sat down and stared through the window into the stale nothingness of the road which was beside the establishment. Even though it has been five years, people kept their distance from him.
The class was finally going to be over as the first two periods of mathematics was soon coming to an end, just before the bell rang and break time began, Jimmy, the class bully, and his friends started throwing paper balls at Kigen. He didn’t care as it was normal for him to get picked on like that. But then, Jimmy took it too far as he picked up a paper cutter and threw it at Kigen. It missed, I mean, how can you miss a guy who is completely isolated from the class? However, that wasn’t the issue, as the miss was far greater than expected. The cutter was heading for a girl who was sitting right beside him.
Moments before Jimmy threw the cutter, “What is that idiot thinking, if he misses, Elisa might get injured, I have to do something, but what? Get in front of the sharp object which could kill me? Nope, I’m not a gentleman.” Kigen thought to himself as Jimmy was getting ready to throw the knife.
The idiot threw the knife, he missed, and it was going straight for the girl’s head. Kigen started to panic,
“My eyes, what the hell it’s that weird feeling again.” He asked confused, because usually when someone panics, it’s the heart which races, but this time it was different.
“What is this? Is it like the same time as Pyxie? No, it can’t be. I mean that time was a fluke, right?” He continued the debate against himself.
In the middle of the self-argument, everything started to slow down, his right eye began to feel weird, it was as if something was alive and beating inside his eye. Suddenly, the right eye which is usually white turned black and everything completely stopped. He could see the trajectory of the knife as if someone had drawn a line saying what path it would take, it was as if he could see the future, precognition? All the while bewildered by the time stopping, he subconsciously made a hand gesture which deflected the knife. It happened so fast that no one noticed and for a split second there was a black aura emanating from the cutter which was deflected just enough to not hurt anyone else.
“What the hell did I just do? My eyes, they feel normal now, this is getting really weird, how can everything just stop like that? I mean how the heck did the knife even get deflected? Anyways, its water under the bridge, I’m glad that Elisa is safe.”
“Briiiing, Briiing” The bell rang signaling that the first two periods were over. Everyone left to have their lunches in the cafeteria apart from Kigen who remained in class thinking about what just happened. While staring his hand, he found himself lost inside his own mind.
Summer stepped foot inside the class to check on him but was dumbfounded to see Kigen sitting alone with a blank expression on his face all the while staring at nothing. Usually, he would be playing games or up to something geeky. Without skipping a beat, she ran straight towards his desk and slammed both her hands on the table which instantly brought him back from the dreamland.
“What the fuck was that!” He shouted, shocked and confused from hearing the impact.
“Oh, it’s just you Summer, hey.” He continued, while slowly toning down his voice.
“Don’t you dare go all depressed on me Kigen, I swear I can sense when you’re in trouble.”
Prior to Summer’s unexpected visit, Kigen removed the contact lens which he uses to cover up his right eye as it was bothering him. He stared right into Summer’s eyes; she had never seen Kigen’s true eye.
“I can see right through you; you’re worried about me aren’t you.” He said in a joking manner.
“What, am I? But seriously your eyes, they look amazing. Why you haven’t shown me this is beyond my understanding.”
“Well, I thought you would have left me like everyone else because of my eye.”
“Do I look like I’m everyone to you?” She slowly raised her voice.
“OK damn, I’m sorry.”
“You better be, now don’t wear that stupid contact because now you actually look kind of hot for once.”
Kigen once again looked at her and smiled. “Briiiing, Briiing” Break was over; to his surprise Summer came and sat down beside him as she politely asked that Elisa exchanged her seat with hers which was in the front. Elisa could do nothing beside accept her offer, as Summer was practically a goddess.
“What are you doing, what about your popularity? Won’t it go down hanging out with someone like me?” He questioned her relentlessly
“Screw that, they are all for show, besides you’re my one true friend and I’ve just realized that I don’t know anything about you even though we’ve known each other for like ten years.”
“Geez ten years, oh well you’re wasting your time now. There is nothing about me that’s mildly interesting.”
“I’ll be the judge of that.”
While still being in the middle of their heartwarming conversation both Anki, and Kygo came and took up a seat in front of Kigen and Summer.
“Sup dumbass.” Kygo interrupted their conversation.
“Meow…” Anki decided to imitate a cat for some reason.
“Now what the fuck was that about Anki, anyways miss us Kigy?” Kygo asked Anki about the whole meowing thing and immediately turned to Kigen.
“Guys, this is a first for me, being surrounded by friends is kind of new as it’s always been quiet and filled with loneliness in this part of the classroom.” Of course, Kigen didn’t actually say that cringy statement out loud but replied with a sarcastic one,
“Should I feel honored that you guys, after being blinded for god knows how long finally acknowledge my greatness?”
“We know that you don’t actually mean that, besides it’s only fair, cause for the longest time you’ve been here for us so it’s time for us to do the same.” She spoke on behalf of everyone.
*Briiiing, Briiing* The favorite part about school was finally here; all the periods just ended. Everyone took off by themselves and headed back to their homes.
Usually, after school, Summer and Kigen would walk together since she mainly spends her afternoons at his place because annoying him while he played games was far funnier than watching television. However today, she had to go meet up with her mother at the shopping complex. Kigen was relieved, thinking that he would once have some peace and quiet by himself but alas all that went to straight into the bin as Summer told him that she would be there in less than twenty minutes.
