────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Chapter 8
Admitting that he was completely destroyed, Seyr disappeared in the blink of an eye.
“?!”
Suddenly left alone at the crime scene, Ravi was terribly surprised.
“Hey, you cheap bastard! How can you leave me here alone?!”
‘Hey! Hey!! Hey, you!!!’ She called out to him until her throat burst, but the cruel demon who had already cast a shadow had no intention of returning.
“Uh, mmm…”
Regan, who had been asleep the whole time, showed signs of waking up, perhaps due to her loud fuss.
‘What! What! What’s going on!’ Instinctively, she stuck to the end of the wall and froze. Ravi stumbled in confusion when presented with phenomena beyond her cognitive abilities, with neither running away nor staying comfortable occurring to her as options. She dared not define it as an imaginary and frightening reality, but she could define what she had just witnessed in one word: Immortality.
‘You mean, the sharp demon hunter who terrified all demons… It’s a being that doesn’t die even if I kill him?! Don’t you die?! You won’t die?!’ As soon as she barely acknowledged that fact, the first thought that came to her mind was one.
“Ugh. F*ck. It hurts like hell.”
‘What do I do now?’ Ravi eventually fell into despair looking at Regan as he woke up. As a result, the possibility of getting that disgusting hunter out of her life was lost forever. Her co-worker, supposed to help her, had left her behind, thus there she was, alone with Regan. Just the two of them.
‘What should I do…? What should I do now…’ Her mind was so loaded with emotion and thoughts that her brain stopped working. Instinctively she smiled softly, unable to think of any other way to respond.
“You woke up?”
The reaction was instantaneous. Hearing her voice, Regan jumped up at once, got up, and threw himself at her.
Kuuhgk– Ravi, who was hit in the neck by his elbow, collapsed with a choked scream. She fell straight onto the floor without anything acting as a cushion and her head throbbed. When her vision, which had been blackened by the shock of the sudden collapse, returned she heard his voice.
“Who are you.”
Ravi met Regan’s eyes as he stared at her as if was about to kill her.
‘Ugh…’ Ravi had stopped breathing yet seemed to have sniffed the sweet smell of gunpowder for a moment. The same as when he pulled the trigger.
“Don’t you remember? We met yesterday.”
She managed to pull herself together, afraid of fainting and not waking up forever. Learning that the hunter was immortal was something very burdensome, but she hoped that his memory was still incomplete. When she spoke to him without hiding her joyful expression, Regan wrinkled his brows as if his stomach churned.
“I know,” he said, and put more weight on the elbow that pressed down on Ravi’s neck.
“You hit my head.”
“Khuuk! Huukk! What– what I’m saying–!”
As she struggled due to suffocation, Regan rummaged through a drawer with his free hand.
‘What? What are you trying to pull out? …Don’t say- A gun?!’
As if to prove her doubts, a dull metal sound was heard.
“No!” Thinking that there must be a gun in the drawer, Ravi raised her knee and struck Regan’s stomach.
“Ugh!”
At the momentary pain, the force holding down Ravi loosened. At that moment, she escaped from under Regan and quickly crawled toward the door.
“Where–!” However, a moment later, she was caught by Regan who regained his senses and pushed her down to the floor.
“Let go! Let me go! Let go!”
She shook her arms, struggling to free herself from his grip but to no avail. Regan dragged Ravi back in front of him, sat on her stomach and suppressed it as if he would not let go this time.
“…!”
His heavy weight fell on her body and she quickly lost her breath. He pressed down Ravi’s arms as she tossed and gasped, and ground his teeth as if he was disgusted.
“Are you trying to hit me and run away? No way it’ll happen.”
Then he frowned and grabbed his head, grimacing as if it was still throbbing.
‘F*ck. How hard did you strike me? It hurts like hell.’ He grumbled, then pulled something from the drawer.
Clak- When she heard the sound of iron hitting, Ravi’s body twitched and reacted sensitively. As soon as she saw the object that appeared in her sight, she held her breath.
“It isn’t a gun?”
It wasn’t.
“Gun? What’s that?”
Unlike someone who had heard the word for the first time, Regan’s eyes didn’t show any sign of doubt. He then casually poured something from an iron container into his mouth. It was like a pain reliever.
“Something that hunters carry around.”
“Hunter? That… like the one from Snow White?”
“…Why are you talking about Snow White so out of the blue? It’s different from that.”
“What’s the difference?”
His voice as if she was speaking like a riddle was annoying. It was as if he was trying to pull the twenty-questions game as if he had a lot to ask about.
“It’s not animals but demons that they hunt.”
“Dem…?”
‘Although he didn’t show knowledge about guns, he might know about demons.’ Her expression hardened visibly. Ravi threw the topic of demons and hunters earnestly as if trying to make Regan listen to the story somehow, but she didn’t miss a single change of emotion that appeared on his face. ‘Why am I listening to this?’ The face that looked at her as if she was pitiful seemed sincere. Ravi, who had gained courage by his expression, boldly opened her mouth.
“You are a demon hunter. You.”
“…” His golden eyes stared into the void then turned toward her. Regan, staring at Ravi, replied as if chewing his words. “Have you seen too many movies? You keep talking about fantasy-like things since before.”
Regan spoke as if he couldn’t understand the current situation at all. As if reality was fantasy, and even though this place was a fantasy, he treated Ravi as an over-immersed patient who lost her sense of reality because she was into sci-fi movies too much. So, Ravi’s eyes shone full of irritation.
“Did you… you really…” Her heart fluttered. Even after doing all this, nothing changed. She was sure now. Regan completely lost his memory.
The sentence that could provoke him lingered in her mouth without finishing. It sounded like a question, but confirmation had already become truth and embedded deeply into Ravi’s heart.
‘Awsome.’ Her heart was revitalized. Ravi’s face brightened in an instant with the hope she had encountered at the edge of her precipice.
“Hey! Then you… Ooh, hey! Why didn’t you say it!”
Regan was no longer a dangerous person.
You don’t even recognize me, and you don’t even know what a gun is! He was fully placed and patched, acting like she’s one of the characters here.
‘I think my prayers have reached the sky!’ When a hole was created for her to survive, the brain cells that had stopped working were awakened one by one.
‘How can I use this situation to my advantage?’ Ravi rolled her eyes and decided to dig into a deep trap.
“Don’t think about doing something silly and just lie down.”
Deep enough to imprison a demon hunter that she cannot kill or shake off.
“I will!” Ravi answered brightly and lay calmly on the floor with an expectant face. As Seyr said. A hunter who forgot how to hunt was nothing like an ordinary human and…
“Why did you hit my head yesterday? I thought we had an agreement.”
“Uh, don’t you remember?”
Dealing with humans was what she did best.
“We slept together.”
“Don’t bullsh*t me. When did I?”
Regan was offended by her natural lies and gave his strength to his grip. Ravi was very– She was very, very slightly scared, but she pretended she wasn’t and moved her hands up to Regan’s elbow pressing her throat.
“We were about to– but you hit my head and I passed out.”
“It was a mistake, but you woke up right after that.”
And then we did it all night. Us. Her voice became cloying as she began to draw a pattern above his elbow. From top to bottom, from bottom to top.
Every time her fingernails cut through his hard flesh, she could feel goosebumps rising over her smooth skin. Regan tried to pull his arm out as the tickling touch bothered him.
“Look. You bit enough to leave a mark.”
To divert his attention, Ravi grabbed the collar of her shirt and pulled it down. Her white neckline and collarbone were full of marks from Seyr biting her all night. Recognizing the obvious signs of a passionate encounter, confusion spread in Regan’s eyes.
“That– …Did I do that?”
“Ng. You really don’t remember anything?”
In the meantime, the pattern she had drawn on his elbow was completed. Ravi’s pink eyes lit up in response to mana. The demon’s pattern gripped his flesh, and she implanted a spell. A spell of enchantment. A slave’s stigma drawn by succubi to lure the person they wanted.
“Then…”
A curse written with malice leaves a trace.
“You don’t even remember that we started dating?”
“…”
A cold silence settled in the place where the spell was instilled.
“What?” His face hardened in bewilderment. He was pretending to be calm, but the moment he heard her– Thump! Ravi could clearly feel Regan’s heart sink almost with a thud.
“No way. I’m sure…”
As he was immersed in his thoughts as if fighting with his own memory, Regan’s eyes slowly lost focus. The strength of his grip pressing Ravi down weakened, and he pulled back his body, which had been holding her down without a chance to breathe.
“You obviously slept with me. You threw yourself at me first, and you confessed first. I just accepted it reluctantly.”
The demon’s lies penetrated the hunter’s mind. Deceit was entangled in the empty memory of last night. Ravi’s enchantment took the most similar memory from the hunter’s memory and overlaid it with her fabrication, pretending to be the truth. As her lie continued, his wits gradually disappeared from the hunter’s eyes.
“Right. I did it.”
In the end, he nodded, believing that Ravi’s story was his memories. Then a tattoo the size of a fingernail was engraved on the back of his neck. A cute heart shape. It was Ravi’s pattern.
The seal of enchantment was successfully engraved on Regan’s body.
