God Made Incompatibility - Chapter 11
At four o’clock in Ningcheng, it was empty and quiet. The sky was still immersed in a deep blue, the steel buildings on both sides of the road, not a single light was on, and there was only a red off-road vehicle galloping along the whole road.
“Are you okay? There is a small trash can behind you if you want to vomit.” Sheng Jinshu held the steering wheel with one hand and wanted to reach out to the back seat to touch the trash can.
Meng Wanji reached out to stop her, touched her forearm, and immediately let go: “No, I’m much better.”
Her voice was still weak.
Sheng Jinshu withdrew his hand, frowned, and hesitated, lowered the car window, and stepped on the accelerator more steadily.
Before 4:30, the two arrived at the First Hospital of Ningcheng City. The hospital is brightly lit, and the silence of the city is like two worlds. There were people coming and going in the emergency hall. In front of the payment window, tall and short people lined up in a small line. Meng Wanji followed Sheng Jinshu to get out of the car, and was about to walk to the emergency hall when she heard the ambulance whistle and quickly drive from the emergency passage to the door.
The rear door opened, and the medical staff in white jumped out, pulling a man lying on a stretcher covered in blood with indistinguishable facial features out of the car.
Meng Wanji was caught off guard, and her footsteps paused.
Sheng Jinshu raised his hand to cover her eyes, held her shoulder and said, “Don’t look, go this way.”
On her hand, there was a very faint scent of perfume, which penetrated into Meng Wanji’s heart along her nose. Meng Wanji shuddered for a moment, and the next moment, her heart seemed to be hurting along with her abdomen.
It’s not right to follow her to the hospital.
She felt guilty.
She kept the distance from Sheng Jinshu without a trace, trying her best to avoid unnecessary physical contact with Sheng Jinshu. Sheng Jinshu was looking for the nurse at the consultation desk in the chaotic hall, but didn’t notice it.
First measure body temperature and blood pressure, then go to the emergency room to wait for the doctor to consult, then go to the second floor to draw blood and get the test sheet. Sheng Jinshu has been with her all the time, in an orderly manner. She seemed to be familiar with the structure of the hospital, and walked with precision along the way.
Going down to the first floor to find a nurse for an infusion, a male doctor passed them by and suddenly stopped Sheng Jinshu: “Miss Sheng?”
Sheng Jinshu stopped and his expression changed slightly.
Meng Wanji saw that they seemed to be acquainted, and did not want to cause unnecessary misunderstandings, so she took the initiative to say: “Today is too much trouble for you, I can do the rest alone.”
Sheng Jinshu looked at her sideways, a flash of displeasure in his eyes. “Mr. Xiao Meng, isn’t it too fast for you to kill the donkey?”
Meng Wanji: “…”
“Wait for me in the infusion room, I’ll be there in a while.” She handed the infusion sheet to Meng Wanji, and asked naturally.
Meng Wanji still wanted to resign, but Sheng Jinshu had already turned around and walked away from the male doctor.
Meng Wanji squeezed the infusion sheet and frowned, so she had to do the same.
She said it was a while, and it was just a moment. Meng Wanji had just inserted the needle and sat down on the infusion chair when Sheng Jinshu came back.
With a thin quilt hanging from her elbow, she rubbed her nose as she walked, as if holding back a small yawn.
“Is it cold? It might be better to cover your arms.” She handed the thin quilt to Meng Wanji and sat down on the empty chair beside her.
Whether it was because the air conditioner in the infusion room was turned on too low or her body was too weak after the high fever, Meng Wanji was indeed a little cold.
“Thank you.” She didn’t hesitate, paused, and asked, “Where did you get it?”
Sheng Jinshu’s red lips moved, as if he wanted to answer, and immediately looked at the people sitting around him vigilantly. She got closer to Meng Wanji. Meng Wanji thought she was going to say something that was inconvenient for everyone to hear, so she forgot to keep a distance from Sheng Jinshu, and subconsciously brought her face closer.
Sheng Jinshu lowered his voice and breathed in Meng Wanji’s ear: “I… it came out of my treasure bag.”
Meng Wanji: “…”
what the hell? She frowned across Sheng Jinshu, a little annoyed and a little bit unable to help but want to laugh.
“Boring.” She stiffened her expression, sat up straight, closed her eyes and ignored Sheng Jinshu.
Sheng Jinshu chuckled softly.
“I…” As she was about to say something, the phone suddenly vibrated. Meng Wanji opened her eyes to confirm that it was indeed Sheng Jinshu’s phone.
Probably because she was afraid of disturbing the sleeping patients in the infusion room, she quickly answered the phone and walked out of the infusion room while replying in a low voice. A second before stepping out of the door of the infusion room, Meng Wanji vaguely heard her say, “I’m not going, I have something to do.”
Where not to go? Meng Wanji raised her wrist to look at her watch, it was just five o’clock. How could anyone call so early.
Her eyes fell on the long curly hair of Sheng Jinshu at the door, and inadvertently, her eyes swept to the magazine rack placed by the door. There seems to be a travel magazine on the magazine shelf, and a white plane fills most of the cover in the blue sky.
Meng Wanji suddenly reacted.
Today is the first day of the National Day holiday.
In the office before, she seemed to have heard other teachers ask Sheng Jinshu about the National Day holiday arrangements. At that time, Sheng Jinshu seemed to say that he was going to go out with friends on National Day. The flight departed on the same day, and the flight was booked for the earliest class.
So now…
Meng Wanji became uncomfortable.
Sheng Jinshu came back after answering the phone, sat back beside her without saying anything, and made clear the question that was just not explained seriously: “I bought the quilt at the vending machine outside.”
Meng Wanji was stunned for a while, now the self-service vending machine sells so many things?
Sheng Jinshu seemed to see her doubts, her lips curved higher and higher, making Meng Wanji inexplicable when she smiled.
“why are you laughing?”
Sheng Jinshu cleared his throat and said, “Look at it carefully.”
Meng Wanji lowered her head and checked the thin quilt on her body, only to find it strange. Not to mention the quilt is surprisingly small, it seems to have a hat-like shape.
She cast an inquiring look at Sheng Jinshu, and Sheng Jinshu generously explained her confusion: “I bought it from a mother and baby vending machine. This is a baby’s blanket.”
Meng Wanji: “…”
How does this person’s brain circuit seem to be different from ordinary people? She suppressed a little smile on her lips and said politely to her, “I’ll pass it on to you how much it is.”
Sheng Jinshu disagreed: “Can I pay for the meal?”
Meng Wanji looked sideways: “Huh?”
Sheng Jinshu’s red lips curved: “I think the meal you cooked for Yu Xingqian and Xi Weiting last time was delicious.”
Meng Wanji would be stupid if she couldn’t understand her suggestion. She was silent, not responding well or not, and changed the subject: “It will take another hour or two for the infusion. You can go back first if you have something to do. I can take a taxi back after I lose it.”
Sheng Jinshu said, “I’m fine.”
Meng Wanji frowned, hesitated for a while, and then asked, “Aren’t you going to catch a plane?”
This time it was Sheng Jinshu’s turn to be surprised: “How do you know?”
Meng Wanji didn’t look at her, her eyes fell on the pattern on her body: “You heard a little when you answered the phone, guess what.”
Sheng Jinshu didn’t know whether to believe it or not, but he didn’t delve into it. She leaned back on the back of the chair and said lightly, “I won’t go.”
“is it OK?”
“It doesn’t matter. It’s with several friends, not more than one of me, and not a lot of less of me.” She yawned a little and asked lazily: “Besides, there is more to do than let me take a nap. Is it important?”
After speaking, she folded her arms and closed her eyes, as if she was going to sleep.
Meng Wanji felt that she should be condemned intellectually, but emotionally, she looked at her long and dense eyelashes, but she couldn’t really feel that she didn’t like it.
She restrained herself and sat on the right half of the chair, a little further away from Sheng Jinshu, and then turned the blanket over, covering half of her left arm and half of Sheng Jinshu’s right arm.
Sheng Jinshu raised his lips quietly.
At seven o’clock in the morning, the sky was bright, people in the infusion room came and went, Meng Wanji’s infusion was finished, and the fever finally subsided. Sheng Jinshu sent her back to the dormitory, and then the two returned to the room to make up their own sleep.
After falling asleep this night, I slept until twelve o’clock noon.
Sheng Jinshu was a little hungry, so he habitually thought about ordering takeout, remembered something, flipped his hair, got out of bed and left the bedroom.
The living room was quiet, Meng Wanji’s door was still closed, Sheng Jinshu went to the kitchen, the pots and pans were dry, the shoes were placed in the entrance, what were they like when they came in, and what are they still like now .
Sheng Jinshu guessed that Meng Wanji hadn’t gotten up yet.
Will she burn again? Is it time to take medicine? Sheng Jinshu couldn’t help frowning.
She went to Meng Wanji’s bedroom and knocked politely on the door.
After two quick knocks and one slow knock, the suite was always quiet.
Sheng Jinshu was worried and knocked again.
Still no answer.
She had no choice but to tentatively hold the door handle and press down gently.
Unexpectedly, Meng Wanji didn’t lock it and the door opened.
Sheng Jinshu’s heart beat for an inexplicable shock, hesitantly, and pushed open the door.
In the master bedroom, the light is bright, with white window screens swaying slightly under the air-conditioning vents. Meng Wanji slept deeply on the large log-colored bed.
She was probably really tired. The sun was shining through the glass and window screens, and she didn’t notice anything on her shoulders and arms that were exposed outside the air-conditioning quilt.
She leaned on her side, half of her face was sunk into the pillow, she frowned slightly, and opened her small mouth, the whole person faded away from the usual sense of alienation from thousands of miles away, showing a bit of tenderness and amiability .
Sheng Jinshu couldn’t help but move.
She looked away and hesitated without Meng Wanji’s permission. Is it impolite to step in like this? She glanced at the bookshelf beside the window sill inadvertently. English books came into Sheng Jinshu’s eyes.
“The Price of Salt…”
“Fingersmith…” Sheng Jinshu unconsciously recited in his heart, and then his eyes suddenly stopped.
She read these two lines of English again in astonishment. The question that had troubled her for half a month finally seemed to have an answer.
