God Made Incompatibility - Chapter 9
Saying he was going home was not entirely an excuse for Meng Wanji to reject Sheng Jinshu. At nine o’clock, she left the cafe where she had breakfast, took a taxi and returned to the Meng family’s manor house before brunch.
The Meng family manor villa is located in the suburbs of the city. The family lives here for a long time. Meng Wanji has lived here since she can remember, but when she is an adult, she rarely comes back except for the annual holidays.
The security guard on duty in the security booth in front of the door saw her from a distance, opened the door, greeted her, and let her in.
The world inside the gate is vast, and the modern garden-style layout is unique and atmospheric, fresh and natural. Anyone who sees it for the first time will be relaxed and happy, but Meng Wanji’s nerves have been tense since the moment he stepped in.
She walked slowly to the main house along the boulevard.
The door of the main house was open, and at a distance, Meng Wanji could vaguely see Li Yuanshuzheng and a middle-aged woman sitting at the coffee table and joking in the hall.
The woman is the mother of her two cousins, her aunt.
Meng Wanji narrowed her eyes and stepped in as if nothing had happened.
The laughter stopped instantly, and both the woman and Li Yuanshu looked over.
Meng Wanji was neither humble nor arrogant, and greeted politely: “Mom, I’m back. Aunt is here too.”
Li Yuanshu’s expression was light, she nodded, and turned back to drink tea.
The woman replied without a smile: “It’s Xiao Ji, I haven’t seen you for a long time.”
Meng Wanji responded: “I have been busy at work recently.”
How busy can you be? The woman sneered in her heart. She didn’t really want to greet Meng Wanji, she nodded, then lowered her head to drink tea, and stopped talking.
The needles could be heard in the hall. Meng Wanji had nothing to say, so she asked, “Is Chuyang at home?”
Li Yuanshu loved her daughter so much that she refused to let Meng Chuyang go to study in the province, so Meng Chuyang had to choose the university in Ningcheng. Li Yuanshu bought her a car. The school and home are only a 20-minute drive away, so it is very convenient to go back and forth.
It’s fine if she didn’t ask, but Li Yuanshu’s face darkened when she asked.
Fortunately, before Meng Wanji could find another topic, Meng Shipei appeared by the railing on the second floor with a newspaper and called her, “Xiao Ji is back? Come up, Dad has something to tell you.”
Meng Wanji breathed a sigh of relief, nodded to Li Yuanshu and her aunt, and said, “Mom, aunt, I’ll go up first.”
No one paid any attention to her, Meng Wanji was not embarrassed, and walked up without changing her face.
In the study, Meng Shipei was also drinking tea at the tea table. As soon as he saw her, he was concerned: “Have you had breakfast? Let my aunt make something for you?”
Meng Wanji shook her head: “I have eaten.” She sat down on the sofa naturally, took the teapot in Meng Shipei’s hand, and helped Meng Shipei make tea.
Meng Shipei said to her half-jokingly, “You, I thought you forgot how to get home.” It’s been almost two months since he said that he went on a trip during the summer vacation in July, and he hasn’t seen her back.
Meng Wanji showed a rare embarrassed expression and explained, “I’ve been busy with something, so I forgot.”
No matter how busy it is, it only takes an hour to go back and forth, where is it? Meng Shipei didn’t have to think about it to know it was an excuse. He didn’t really want to blame her, he was just distressed, and he had more than enough power. He sighed inwardly, and turned his tone to care for her: “Why does it seem to be thin.”
Meng Wanji poured tea for him, disapprovingly: “In summer, I usually lose weight.”
Meng Shipei didn’t think so, and said again: “I’d better call you an auntie, what nutrition can you get from eating in the cafeteria every day.”
Meng Wanji was relieved: “It’s really not necessary, I usually cook by myself.” She changed the subject and asked what Li Yuanshu had just asked downstairs: “Is Chuyang not at home?”
Meng Shipei had a headache when he heard this little daughter. He took a sip of tea and said angrily, “I’m at home, I’m still asleep. Yesterday’s big holiday was nowhere to be seen, and I didn’t answer the phone after hundreds of calls. I didn’t know where to go and got so drunk that I came back in the middle of the night. .”
“I’m so big, I don’t know what I’m thinking.” He sighed deeply, and said, “Junior sister is her role model, but the result is not good at all and I won’t learn from you. Your mother and I are thinking about it until graduation. Just make her a marriage appointment, and let her take care of her heart, so as not to miss four or six every day.”
Meng Wanji paused while making tea.
In a family like theirs, it is very common for parents to help each other to see the marriage. Li Yuanshu loves Meng Chuyang like a jewel, and the person who can choose Meng Chuyang is not far behind. But for Meng Chuyang, who loves freedom like a little wild horse, it may not be a torture.
“Chuyang is still young.” She helped Meng Chuyang to block a sentence: “It might be better if it’s a little bigger.”
Meng Shipei shook his head in relief and reluctance: “Just protect her.”
“Don’t talk about her anymore.” He changed his words and cared: “How are you doing yourself? Is the boy that Uncle Shen introduced some time ago still in touch?”
Meng Wanji shook her head.
Meng Shipei asked, “Don’t you like it?”
Meng Wanji replied softly, “Yes.”
Meng Shipei was not surprised. After graduating from Meng Wanji University, her relatives and friends introduced her to more than two people, and none of them have been able to get Meng Wanji’s nod and further development.
“It’s alright, I don’t like it if I don’t like it, but…” Meng Shipei said earnestly: “Xiao Ji, I’m almost old, and I still have to serve snacks myself.”
His gaze suddenly reminded Meng Wanji of the dream at night, and of Meng Shipei’s utterly disappointed look, his chest sunk as if being pressed by a boulder.
From the first time she dreamed of Sheng Jinshu in high school, she knew where her problems were.
In this lifetime, she will never get married.
But she didn’t open her mouth to tell Meng Shipei.
Meng Shipei is a good, generous and responsible father. From childhood to adulthood, he cared about her, protected her, and never treated her badly. Meng Wanji saw it in his eyes and remembered it in his heart. But he was also a traditional person. The more Meng Wanji knew about his appreciation and expectations for her, the less she wanted to embarrass him and the more she was afraid of disappointing him.
They are not biological parents.
She could only honestly say yes.
The next week suddenly became long and difficult. In addition to dealing with the endless disciplinary problems of students in teaching, and the new blind date of Meng Shipei’s friend, Meng Wanji also has to put extra effort in defending Sheng Jinshu.
Since the morning run, Sheng Jinshu seemed to be close to her all of a sudden. She is measured but not measured, and she has never done anything frivolous or disturbing in the world, but she has never been stingy to release her charm, either far or near, seemingly flirting.
If Meng Wanji didn’t know that she has a girlfriend and that she likes women, she might not be too concerned. But she knew, she couldn’t help it.
Two days before the National Day holiday, Meng Wanji was tired of meaningless conversations on WeChat, and agreed to the meeting request of the newly introduced blind date.
At 8 o’clock in the evening, in the Nanyang Cuisine restaurant with beautiful lighting, unique decoration and full of atmosphere, as soon as she entered the door, she looked up and saw Sheng Jinshu.
Sheng Jinshu sat by the window, wearing a black off-shoulder dress, on the swing-style rattan chair, chatting and laughing with Shen Tinghua across from him, her beautiful smile eclipsed everything around her.
Meng Wanji pursed her lips and looked at it, feeling a soreness in her heart.
The man beside him was asking, “What’s wrong?”
Meng Wanji turned her eyes away and replied lightly, “It’s nothing.” She sat down in the reserved seat with her face as usual, just turned her back to Sheng Jinshu and the others, and didn’t look at Sheng Jinshu again for the whole meal.
Food does not taste.
In half an hour, she ended the meal. The man said that they could go to the movies together. Meng Wanji excused that there was something else going on in the school and refused. The man then asked for the next best thing and asked to send her back to Ningwai.
The car was parked near the west gate of the staff dormitory building. Meng Wanji opened the door and got out of the car. The man also got out of the car, and finally said goodbye to her politely.
Meng Wanji watched him leave, turned around and was about to cross the road, when a Porsche parked on the side of the road suddenly flashed its headlights and honked its horn.
Meng Wanji looked at it reflexively, and saw that the car door opened, and a man in a polo shirt came down.
The man took three steps and two steps, and approached her aggressively.
Meng Wanji was stunned for several seconds before recognizing that it was Wan Liang, the blind date whom she had met once before.
She frowned and looked at Wan Liang strangely.
Wan Liang didn’t know if he had been drinking, but he stood in front of her and asked her in a low voice, “Have you met someone new again?”
An arrogant tone.
Meng Wanji was inexplicable, and said coldly, “Mr. Wan, you are drinking too much.”
As soon as the words fell, Wan Liang grabbed her wrist and asked with red eyes, “Why? Tell me, what is wrong with me?”
Meng Wanji was caught off guard, it hurt so much that she was clenched, frowning and struggling, scolding him: “Let me go! What are you doing drunk!”
But Wan Liang, relying on his height and strength, didn’t let go at all, and even grabbed her other hand recklessly, wanting to forcibly hug her, “Can’t you give me a chance?”
Meng Wanji couldn’t struggle, and was about to lift his leg to kick the center of his leg. A burst of cold water suddenly hit from the side and splashed a few drops on Meng Wanji’s neck.
Wan Liang’s face was covered in water, and he turned to look for the source of the water in exasperation.
Meng Wanji took advantage of the situation and threw off his hand, slapped him fiercely, turned around and ran towards the water.
But just after two steps, she fixed her eyes and saw that the person standing opposite was Sheng Jinshu, and her footsteps froze involuntarily.
Sheng Jinshu wore high-heeled shoes, flipped her hair around her ears, and her big silver earrings shone under the streetlights. She stood beside Meng Wanji, quietly hid Meng Wanji behind her, and threw the empty milk tea cup on Wan Liang’s face with a half-smile, “Are you sober? I need to accompany you here. Wait for 110 to come?”
Wan Liang was not drunk at all, but felt that some girls would not be able to stand up to a man’s soft and hard bubbles, and wanted to play a trick with an infatuated man and commit murder by being drunk. Even if you can’t succeed, it’s not a loss to be able to wipe some oil. He was splashed with water and slapped in the face. He wanted to get angry, but when he heard Sheng Jinshu said that he had reported 110, and his eyes were not easy to be offended, he immediately persuaded him again.
It’s too ugly when it’s too loud. In the end, he was afraid of Meng Shipei, he shook his head, pretending to be more than half awake all of a sudden, backing up again and again, covering his face with guilt.
“I’m sorry, I’m really sorry about what happened today, I drank too much…” He murmured to himself, backed up to the Porsche car, looked remorseful, opened the car door, stepped on the accelerator and ran.
Sheng Jinshu sneered, remembered the license plate number, and called 122 to report him for drunk driving.
Her expression faded away from her usual cynicism, and in the peak of her eyebrows, there was Leng Rui who had been entangled in Meng Wanji’s dreams for many years. Inaccessible, and heart-pounding.
Meng Wanji suppressed her embarrassed emotions and thanked her: “Thank you.”
Sheng Jinshu looked down at her, his brows loosened, and his face softened. She took a tissue from her purse and helped her wipe the milk tea stains from her collar and chin.
Meng Wanji ducked back uncomfortably, “I’ll do it myself.”
Sheng Jinshu didn’t reluctantly, he let go of the tissue to her, touched the red mark on her wrist, and reminded: “It’s better to rub your hands with medicinal wine later.”
Meng Wanji’s heart palpitated with the gentleness of her tone.
She didn’t dare to look at her, and replied, “Well.”
The two packed up and walked to the campus side by side. The night breeze brought a hint of coolness, giving Meng Wanji an illusion of not knowing what year it was.
“Ex-boyfriend?” Sheng Jin asked casually.
Meng Wanji responded: “No.” After a pause, she added: “The blind date.”
Sheng Jinshu made an “oh” and asked clearly, “Is that also a blind date tonight?”
Meng Wanji’s heart skipped a beat. Turns out she saw her too. She suddenly felt that her feet had landed on the ground, and she remembered everything that happened tonight, and the reality that lay between them.
Delusion is shameful and undeserved. She was in no mood to answer Sheng Jinshu.
Sheng Jinshu thought she had acquiesced, and half-jokingly said, “The introducer’s vision doesn’t seem to be very good, and the two don’t look very good.”
She teased: “Mr. Meng, are you too thin-skinned to talk too much?”
“How about I help you refuse next time?”
Meng Wanji suddenly stopped. She called her: “Mr. Sheng.”
Sheng Jinshu also stopped and looked at her with a smile on his face.
Meng Wanji thought, Dang Duan continued to suffer from the chaos. She opened her mouth and tried to arm her coldest voice, and said, “I don’t think our relationship is so close that you can point out my personal affairs at will.”
Sheng Jinshu’s smile faded in an instant.
“Sorry, I’m meddling with my own business.” The air froze for a few seconds, and Sheng Jinshu laughed again. This time, the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
