Godlike Player in a Game-Like World - Chapter 305: Teammates (part 1)
Raydon stared at Samuen’s mischievous grin and the array of tempting items on the table. ‘After seeing all of these items, I will not be able to leave here by selecting only two of them. ‘
Even though he was not yet aware of what Samuen would require of him, he had already made up his mind before learning the details. However, he maintained a facade of uncertainty as he asked, his expression thoughtful and undecided.
“Alright, what are the terms?”
Raydon had a rough idea of what Samuen might ask of him. Even though he had expressed his willingness to attend the upcoming celebration, he had not yet unequivocally accepted the position of young master in the Demugen family.
Before, the Demugen family only needed to see Raydon’s face during the celebration in order to introduce him to the general public. However, once they realized how valuable Raydon was, their plans shifted, and they began to make other preparations. It was no longer sufficient for the Demugen family themselves to announce Raydon as the family’s young master; instead, they required Raydon himself to voluntarily accept the position.
“I believe you’ve already made your decision,” Samuen remarked, his laughter genuine.
No matter how hard Raydon tried to conceal his emotions, Samuen knew him too well. He was certain that Raydon would agree to the terms as long as they did not directly go against what was in his best interests.
“As I mentioned earlier, I don’t think it will be too difficult for you to meet the conditions,” Samuen said, slowly proceeding to explain his terms.
“Firstly, you may be aware that there are two D-Rank region bosses in E-Rank matches,” Samuen said.
‘Two bosses? Damn, I had no idea,’ Raydon thought in surprise, though he nodded as if he had already known, concealing his astonishment.
“Good,” Samuen continued, “the first condition is that you must defeat those two region bosses in the next match you participate in.”
“What?!” The battle maids, including Mell, exclaimed in shock upon hearing this requirement.
For them, even in an F-Rank match, defeating a single region boss with a team was an arduous and remarkable achievement. So when the family leader asked Raydon to vanquish two region bosses in an E-Rank match, it seemed like an unimaginable and audacious request.
Even the elders, who had been unaware of the specific conditions Samuen would propose, were taken aback. However, their surprise stemmed from a different perspective than that of the battle maids.
Like Raydon, they thought Samuen’s terms were the kind that would bind him to the family, but asking him to kill region bosses seemed utterly pointless. Frankly, they weren’t even sure if Raydon could defeat a single D-Rank region boss, but they acknowledged that it wasn’t entirely impossible given his extraordinary nature.
”Are you sure? ” Raydon asked, raising an eyebrow.
This requirement surprised him more than anyone else, as Raydon’s objective was already to maximize his achievements in every match, including taking down region bosses.
”Of course, this is not my sole condition, so don’t get too excited just yet. ” Samuen remarked, noticing Raydon’s surprise.
‘Here it comes. ‘ Raydon pondered, finally expecting Samuen to present the conditions that contained his true intentions.
”In your next match, you will face between 45 and 90 enemies. Hence, my second condition is for you to eliminate at least 10 enemy item holders during that encounter. ” Samuen disclosed.
”Huh? ” Raydon was once again taken aback by a condition that he had not anticipated, and his surprise was clearly visible.
”What? Are these conditions too challenging for you? ” Samuen scoffed, amused.
‘What is this old man up to? ‘ Raydon wondered, scrutinizing Samuen’s seemingly entertained expression.
It is without a doubt that an average item holder will have a very hard time, if not an impossible time, complying with these conditions. On the other hand, Samuen understood better than anyone else that Raydon was not a typical item holder.
He ought to have been aware that E-Rank matches would be as easy for Raydon to win as taking a leisurely stroll through the park. Thus, it didn’t make sense for Samuen to offer half of the family’s treasury and propose such ordinary terms.
”So, what’s the third condition? ” Raydon inquired, expecting there to be more.
To his surprise, the answer was straightforward.
”That is all. ” Samuen replied.
Samuen hadn’t imposed any conditions that would place Raydon in a precarious situation or contradict his own interests. Moreover, these terms had no bearing on the family’s interests; they merely set goals for Raydon to exert more effort in his next match, with a corresponding reward upon successful completion.
What truly astounded Raydon was Samuen’s lack of self-interest for himself and the family.
‘Is he trying to win my favor? No, if that were the case, he would have given me all the items outright, without any conditions. ‘ Raydon began to search for hidden motives that eluded his perception.
‘Maybe he really underestimates my power and thinks I will fail, and in the end, he won’t need to give me anything? ‘ Raydon contemplated, his gaze fixed on Samuen’s calm, smiling face.
Due to the fact that Raydon had never competed in an E-Rank match before, he was unsure of the precise level of difficulty that was present. However, regardless of the difficulty of the task, he believed that, as someone who had faith in his own abilities, he would have no trouble meeting Samuen’s requirements.
Furthermore, following his reawakening, his total stat points have elevated him to the power level of a well-rounded F-Rank item holder at approximately 300 levels. By that logic, compared to an E-Rank item holder, he should possess the equivalent power of nearly 200 levels, signifying a substantial power difference.
The highest-level individual Raydon had encountered thus far was Fang, a B-Rank item holder with a level of only 63. Therefore, the likelihood of encountering a 200-level item holder in an E-Rank match appeared to be even rarer than the likelihood of encountering a polar bear in the middle of a desert.
