Godzilla Earth: Origin - Book 2: Chapter 6: The Response
“Only 10 minutes left.”
King Ghidorah had awakened, and the Wings of King Ghidorah were advancing toward Earth.
With their sudden awakening, the world’s troubles had increased significantly.
Originally, the dissection of the Wings of King Ghidorah and King Ghidorah itself had been undertaken to deal with Godzilla. But instead of gaining information about them, they had unwittingly awakened them.
As the current President of the World United Government, Ludwig had just added another challenging issue to deal with.
And it was a problem that could determine the survival or extinction of humanity.
According to the observations from the Sun and Planetary Observatory (SOPO) located at Lagrange Point L1 and the observations from the Solar System and Planetary Astronomy Observatory, they had confirmed the existence of as many as 15 Wings of King Ghidorah. Once they landed on Earth, they would pose a threat even greater than Godzilla.
Meanwhile, the awakening of King Ghidorah on Venus… that was something humanity had absolutely no means to defend against.
He had read the reports from Venusian civilization, and the part about structures not completely weathering even after 450 million years was beyond human comprehension.
Completely destroying a civilization on Venus, a creature like that was something humanity was absolutely powerless against. Unless humanity discovered some unattainable technology immediately, the only option was to flee.
But where to? To the completely unknown world beyond “that”?
Or to build spaceships and head to other star systems?
Both of these options seem impossible, don’t they?
“Sir, the meeting is about to begin.”
“Alright.”
Following his bodyguards, the President entered the conference room and took his seat at the head, waiting for the meeting regarding King Ghidorah’s escape to commence. His bodyguards all conscientiously put on their soundproof earphones and stood beside him.
Just as he took his seat, the projection screen in the hall lit up, and the faces of various lawmakers were projected. The meeting was officially underway.
The first topic of discussion was whether or not to publicly disclose the issue of King Ghidorah and the Wings of King Ghidorah.
“I object.”
“I object.”
“I also object.”
“Same here, I object too.”
…
This issue was resolved in just two minutes. Out of a total of 307 lawmakers, including the President, 278 voted against, 26 abstained, and 3 voted in favor.
It appeared that the vast majority knew better than to do something that would put the World United Government in such a precarious position right after delivering speeches.
The existence of King Ghidorah and the Wings of King Ghidorah could be made public, but not now, and the narrative certainly couldn’t be the truth. Otherwise, it would undoubtedly ignite even greater distrust of the government among the people, and the situation would become even more severe.
“So, the second issue: whether to advance the priority of building global shelters.”
This was clearly a much more challenging issue to resolve. As soon as the President introduced the topic, representatives from the coastal regions of East Asia and metropolitan areas in Australia immediately voted against it.
As expected. After all, East Asia and Australia were the first frontlines against Godzilla. If the priority of building global shelters was advanced, it would mean significantly reduced support for the global effort.
Because everyone would prioritize building local shelters rather than contributing to the Godzilla defense line.
Originally, the discovery that Godzilla had human radar capabilities had drastically reduced the priority of building shelters. But now, with the arrival of the Wings of King Ghidorah, it seemed that global shelters had to be built, whether they liked it or not.
So, should they build local shelters first and then support the frontline areas?
“Object.”
“Object.”
“Agree.”
“Agree.”
“Object.”
“Agree.”
…
307 votes, 213 objections, 90 agreements, 4 abstentions.
Next was the production scale of space weapons. This time, it wasn’t just a matter of objections and abstentions. Each region submitted their projected plans, and after data consolidation, they arrived at an ideal production scale. Then they would discuss the output quantity for each major region.
While the original version of space-based weapons might not have been effective, deploying a network of nuclear strike satellites in near-Earth orbit was a plan that had to be executed. This was not only for countering Godzilla but also for dealing with the Wings of King Ghidorah.
The arrival of the Wings of King Ghidorah had disrupted all of humanity’s plans. No one could have imagined that the monster that had spent 450 million years on Venus would suddenly reactivate and immediately fly towards Earth.
No one had thought of it, no one could have thought of it.
But it happened!
The world always had a way of throwing curveballs.
The Space Line must be established quickly to move the battlefield away from Earth. They must establish a complete defense line within 40 days, and this defense line needs ammunition.
In space, the best weapon is high-energy laser beams, but unfortunately, humanity currently lacks the capability to bring super high-energy laser beams into space. So they need something else, something extremely scarce: nuclear bombs.
“Next is the joint request from the European region. Europe wants to clear other near-Earth orbits outside the secure orbit to build… extraterrestrial spacecraft.”
“Opposed.”
“Opposed.”
“Opposed.”
…
The meeting of the World United Government was proceeding smoothly. This meeting, which would decide the future of humanity, was drawing to a close with the votes and discussions of 307 lawmakers and 109 official-level officials.
Just as the meeting was about to conclude, the screen in the meeting room suddenly went black, and the lights dimmed completely.
In an instant, the hall experienced a power outage.
“What’s happening?”
“A power outage? How is that possible?! This is the United Headquarters!”
“My phone, my phone won’t turn on either. Is this an EMP attack?”
“Everyone, please evacuate through the emergency exits!”
The conference hall in the headquarters was pitch black, and officials working in the United Headquarters attempted to use their phones to illuminate the surroundings. However, their phones were completely useless, and only those with non-network function flashlights were able to turn them on.
This was a cyber attack!
Who? Which terrorist organization had planned this? How did they gain access to the government’s internal network?
Countless questions raced through the minds of the officials present, but in the next moment, all of them were answered because in the next moment…
The power came back on.
Click, click, click…
The lights came back on, and the projection screen resumed its operation. Officials who had been evacuating slowed down their steps, and at the same time, everyone’s phones vibrated.
A phone call? What’s going on? Did the terrorists make these calls?
Before the officials could react, their phones automatically answered the calls. Simultaneously, on the projection screen in the conference hall, an unfamiliar figure appeared.
“Nice to meet you, humans.”
“I am the ambassador of the K2002 civilization from the third planet in the black hole galaxy.”
“I wish to negotiate a deal with you.”
