Granting You A Second Life Hiatus - Chapter 104 Human Chess
Apartment 5- Saturday
Li Xiuying finally returned from the Ren Residence after 5 hours of seriously forced socializing i.e. Ren Shirong forced her to socialize.
All she wanted to do now was enjoy the rest of her weekend alone and in peace. She needed to be well rested to prepare for the rest of the week.
….
Sunday Evening
Chong Honghui was at a small exclusive luxury restaurant on the outskirts of the city where no one would recognize him. This particular restaurant specialized in discretion and as such many people carried out shady business dealings here. It was also a popular location for men and women to bring their lovers/mistresses/toys to share a romantic meal without the fear of prying eyes.
Chong Honghui was sitting across from Jia Kuai Hua in their private room.
Jia Kuai Hua: “Gege that woman won’t ruin our relationship because she’s envious of us will she?”
Chong Honghui: “Don’t worry HuaHua everything has been taken care of. My father will sort everything out with Uncle Ren and she’ll be firmly out of the picture. Then I can finally bring you home and introduce you to your future in-laws.”
Jia Kuai Hua blushed and pouted: “She better be. Hmph. As if I would let anyone snatch you away from me!”
Chong Honghui chuckled as he patted Jia Kuai Hua’s head gently : “I have better taste than that.”
Jia Kuai Hua was only slightly appeased she asked apprehensively: “Will mother and father like me?”
Chong Honghui: “Everyone who meets you loves you. They will adore you as much as I do.”
A waiter knocked on the door and then entered carrying in plates of food:”Excuse me.” After placing the dishes on the table he left.
Jia Kuai Hua played with her chopsticks: “Gege does brother Zhōu dislike me because of Friday? After we left the restaurant he looked like he was really angry with me.”
Chong Honghui: “Don’t worry about him, come on let’s eat.”He wanted to distract Jia Kuai Hua. Zhōu Shàoqiáng had indeed hinted his dissatisfaction and dislike for Jia Kuai Hua. He had also suggested that because of her Owner Lài was targeting him. Zhōu Shàoqiáng even suggested to Chong Honghui that he should either end the relationship or go on a break until he knows more about the situation concerning Xǔ Junjie’s story.
Chong Honghui refused to follow such advice; he would not allow others to dictate his actions. He had feelings for Jia Kuai Hua, she was the women he wanted to marry and thus he would stand by her.
Chong Honghui and Jia Kuai Hua began placing food on each other’s plate and whispering sweet nothings to each other.
Chong Honghui looked at his phone when he felt it vibrate in his pocket. He was confused and curious as to what this audio file was.As he put his phone to his ear and listened his face immediately darkened. ‘Someone was recording the scene from Friday night.’
Jia Kuai Hua noticed that Chong Honghui was becoming increasingly unhappy: “Chong gege is anything wrong?”
Chong Honghui put his finger to his lips and indicated for Jia Kuai Hua to be quiet.
After he had listened to the recording in its entirety; he took a steadying breathe and called the unknown number.
Chong Honghui: “What do you want?”
He heard a weird voice answer: “Debts must be repaid.”
Chong Honghui: “Who is this? Ren Daiyu? Li Xiuying? Dr Yao?”
Weird voice: “You have many enemies it would seem.”
Chong Honghui clenched his fists but maintained his calm. He asked once again: “What do you want?”
Weird voice: “To observe a good show.”
Chong Honghui: “I am willing to pay any amount for this recording never to see the light of day. This could ruin people’s lives; I ask you have a conscience.”
Weird voice: “I seem to have misplaced my conscience and I would much prefer to sate my desire to play human chess.”
Chong Honghui felt a chill going down his spine: “Human chess?”
Weird voice: “Why yes. You’ve never heard of it? Well I’m tickled at the prospect of introducing you to this fascinating game. The enjoyment of the game comes from the adrenaline rush one gets at not knowing what will happen next. So I will only give you two clues so as not to spoil the mystery of the game. Firstly, this is my counter to your 1st move. Secondly, I like to view my opponent’s pieces as his family and friends or sometimes even as the things that are most important to them. For example in your case I would view one of the knights as your budding law career and maybe the bishop as your father. Mmm and perhaps the lovely Miss. Jia as either a pawn or queen.”
Chong Honghui’s body tensed and his face was stiffened as he listened. Chong Honghui clearly understood that this person’s words carried a deeper meaning. The first clue implied that he had caused offence to this person and this was their retaliation.
The second clue carried various underlying meanings. 1. This person would involve his family in this sick and twisted game. 2. The person implied he knew what Chong Honghui held important and he would destroy them slowly. 3. His actions or “moves” would influence what the other person would destroy. 4. His father and Jia Kuai Hua were prime targets. 5. This person was clearly powerful if he could so easily speak of ruining someone’s life.
Weird voice: “Oh dear. It seems I have given you a myriad of things to ruminate about. I will not keep you any longer. I hope that I can make your first game of human chess as thrilling as possible. In the words of the ancient Grecian’s let the games begin.”
Chong Honghui stared down at the phone in his hand.
Jia Kuai Hua placed her hand gently on his wrist: “Chong gege is everything okay? Who were you talking to?”
Chong Honghui nodded absent mindedly still in deep thought, he began looking through his contacts and dialed a number.
Chong Honghui: “Hello uncle Ren I apologize for calling so late.”
Ren Guiton: “Oh Honghui its you. That’s no problem at all. Is something the matter? Do you need my help with something?”
Chong Honghui sighed in relief as Ren Guiton spoke to him in an amiable tone.
Chong Honghui: “No uncle Ren everything is fine. Actually I called because I wanted to apologize for yesterday. I have been thinking about my actions, I maybe shouldn’t have rushed to inform you about what happened. Even though Daiyu’s actions hurt me, I don’t want the situation to cause a rift between you both. Nor do I want it to affect the relationship between my father and yourself. I have troubled you.”
Ren Guiton: “Honghui you are indeed considerate. This situation will most definitely not affect the relationship between myself and your father. It’s Daiyus’s actions which were wrong, she had told me as much herself. As a man I can understand why you couldn’t stomach such humiliation. Daiyu stop searching for a minute and come over here now and apologize to Honghui.”
Chong Honghui could here Ren Daiyu reply: “Yes father.”
Chong Honghui: “Uncle Ren there’s no need for Daiyu to apologize, I truly believe she was acting out of character under the influence of her friends. I won’t disturb you any longer Uncle Ren.”
Chong Honghui frowned as he crossed Ren Daiyu off his suspect list. ‘Could she do such a thing in front of her father?’
Chong Honghui want on to call the reception at Unity hospital.
Reception: “Hello Unity hospital, how may I help you?”
Chong Honghui feigned concern and worry: “Hello, hello do you have a Dr. Yao Changying? Her mother has fainted and I need to contact her. I’ve already tried 4 hospitals.” Zhou had investigated the backgrounds of the women from Friday night. Chong Honghui had a sinister glint in his eyes ‘Its either this woman or Li Xiuying, they will rue the day that they even dreamed about playing with me.”
Receptionist: “Please hold and I will get back to you.” She put the call on hold and Chong Honghui could hear music playing.
After about 10 minutes had passed the music stopped. He could make out numerous voices talking happily. Chong Honghui then heard someone speaking close to the phone. The voice sounded slightly muffled but frantic: “YingYing wait a minute there’s an urgent call, somethings happened to my mom.”
Chong Honghui noticed that the background chatter dissipated.
Yao Changying sounded panicked: “This is Dr. Yao Changying. What’s happened to my mom? Where is she now?”
Chong Honghui hung up the call. He weighed up the new information ‘ Yao Changying is clearly in hospital with masses of people around her and she called out ‘YingYing’ this could be Li Xiuiyng. I can vaguely recall Ren Daiyu calling Li Xiuying that name.”‘
