- Chapter 111 Mighty Temper For One So Small
Qin Song looked at his watch then spoke: “You are slower than expected.”
Male voice: “Sorry boss, there were a few unforeseen events that impeded our progress.”
Qin Song smirked as he thought of the Mao’s family’s foolishness: “Its fine. Send me the encrypted files tonight and the report.”
Male voice: “Roger that boss.”
Qin Song returned his phone to his pocket and turned to face an unhappy bun.
Qin Song sighed: “I’ll get you a phone tonight.”
Little 4th was still unhappy: “Hmph it’s the least you can do.” Little 4th knew that the only way his brother would know about him wanting a phone is if he had been eavesdropping on his conversation. ‘This guy is so nosy, why is he always around when I’m talking to big sister YingYing?’
Qin Song: “There will be rules in place to restrict how much you can use it and what you will be able to use it for.”
Little 4th tilted his head back and gave Qin Song a condescending look his face clearly read ‘Do you think I don’t know my limits? I’m not like you.’
Qin Song had enough. He picked up little 4th and carried him down the hallway.
Little 4th: “Put me down, I can walk.”
Qin Song teased: “You’re all grown up so why don’t you make me?”
Little 4th struggled to free himself but it was pointless, he was trapped. In the end he just buried his face in his brother’s shoulder in frustration and humiliation.
Qin Song smiled down at his little brother who was trying to hide his face in embarrassment ‘Such a mighty temper for one so small, it kind of reminds me of …’
…
Unity Hospital Theater 6
So far the morning had been uneventful.Li Xiuying was currently watching as Wu Quon was suturing the port sites for patient no 5.
Li Xiuying could see a health care assistant moving suspiciously close to the sterilized equipment, the woman looked twitchy and nervous.
Scrub nurse Meng Eu-meh: “Another 3-0 prolene and dressings.”
The health care assistant: “Right away.” She then went over to the cabinet for medical supplies and retrieved the aforementioned equipment.
She partially opened the packet for prolene 3-0 being careful not to touch the sterilized content and waited for Meng Eu-meh to take it.She then did the same with the dressings.
As the healthcare assistant walked away, Li Xiuying saw her brushing unusually close to the side of the trolley.
Li Xiuying: “Count the sharps.”
Scrub nurse Meng Eu-Meh looked at Li Xiuying then turned to her trolley; she knew that Dr Li wouldn’t make any unnecessary request and that she wasn’t questioning her abilities to manage the equipment.
Meng Eu-Meh’s voice was cold: “There are only 5 suture needles; one is missing. Someone must have taken …” She sharply looked at the health care assistant’s face, which clearly had guilty written all over it then.Meng Eu-Meh watched as the health care assistant tried to hide her hands.
The health care assistant was panicking internally but tried to maintain an outwardly calm exterior. She clutched onto the needle in a way that it wouldn’t pierce through the flesh of her hand.
Health care assistant: “Maybe it fell on the floor? I’ll have a look now.” She was about to bend down to “search” for the needle and create her escape route.
Meng Eu-Meh: “Don’t move. Show us your hands.”
The health care assistant was in a half bent position as she froze for a moment before she continued to a kneeling position pretending she hadn’t heard Meng Eu-Meh.
Meng Eu-Meh: “Xie An are you pretending to be deaf or have you lost your ability to understand human speech?”
Everyone was watching Xie An with sharp eyes.
Yao Changying spoke with mock humor: “Xie An are you doing a magic trick? Will you make the missing suturing needle appear from thin air?”
Meng Eu-Meh: “Xie An I will only ask you one more time. Show us what’s in your hands now.”
Xie An stood up quickly and tried to throw the needle away as far as possible.
Xie An then opened both her hands to show everyone: “I was only trying to help. I can’t believe my own team would doubt me.”
Yao Changying: “Xie An please just stop. It makes me cringe watching your poor acting skills. We all saw you throw something behind you. By the way you throw like a girl.”
Li Xiuying: “I’ll finish suturing the patient. D go and call security.”
Xie An look around her, she realized that there was no way to talk her way out of this. Xie An looked at the doors to the theater before she made a run for it.
Wu Quon who just got off the phone to security, looked around incredulously at the staff who were just doing their work as if a crazy health care assistant didn’t just run out: “Shouldn’t we chase after her?”
Li Xiuying: “Scrubs and rubbers clogs.”
Wu Quon: “Huh? Dr Li this isn’t the time to be talking about attire. What if she threatens her way out of the hospital by taking someone hostage? What if she manages to escape?”
Yao Changying: “You clearly haven’t ever tried to run in clogs right? Especially when you’re in a panic. Best case scenario she lost both her clogs and is currently trying to escape in her socks, worst case scenario she tripped over her clogs and smashed her face.”
Wu Quon: “What?”
Meng Eu-Meh: “Dr Wu please use your brain. Do you think that anyone here would allow someone like Xie An escape? She not only tried to compromise patient safety, she also tried to effect the future of the staff members here.”
A few minutes later patient 5 was moved to post-op recovery.
Wu Quon was nervously pacing around. ‘How can everyone be so calm?’
The phone in the theater started ringing, he went over and answered: “Hello, theater 6.”
Wu Quon: “Dr Li it’s for you, its security.”
Li Xiuying went over and put the receiver to her ear: “Hmm okay. Thank you. Yes I’ll report her.” She put down the phone after a minute or so.
Wu Quon: “Erm Dr Li what’s happened with Xie An? Has she been caught? Has she escaped?”
Li Xiuying frowned at him: “She’s been apprehended by security. Director Qin has also been notified. This situation will be reported and an investigation launched.” Li Xiuying had already stationed a security guard just outside the theaters. She wanted the perpetrator too feel like they had hope of escape before crushing them with reality.
Yao Changying walked over: “Wow D, your behavior actually forced YingYing to explain the situation to you.”
Wu Quon read between the lines and realized he was being called annoying. ‘Oh crap I annoyed Dr Li. Who gave me the confidence to question Dr Li? Crap I questioned everyone in the theater. Oh look what’s that in the distance; it’s my career floating away.’
Yao Changying found D funny: “You look a little dazed.”
Li Xiuying: “Lunch break.”
Yao Changying: “Let’s go, I’ll buy you some noodle soup.”
Meng Eu-Meh waited until Li Xiuying and Yao Changying left before she approached Wu Quon: “Dr Wu, perhaps you and Xie An were the only people who failed to notice that there were 2 security guards stationed outside theaters today. Although I understand you were concerned by our lack of panic, I would appreciate it if you didn’t question my integrity and my ability to ensure patient safety.”
Wu Quon: “Ah I erm I.”
Meng Eu-Meh sauntered out of the theater doors.
A theater nurse walked up to Wu Quon: “Don’t worry Dr Wu, it’s a rite of passage for staff members to be chewed out by Nurse Meng Eu-Meh at least once in their careers. Your day just happened to be today.” She patted Wu Quon on the back in pity before she headed for the coffee room.
Wu Quon sighed as he followed behind the nurse ‘So far Dr Li has frowned at me a total of 88 times and we still have 4 surgeries left.’ The residents who had shadowed Dr Li had created a league table for who gets frowned at the most. Unfortunately for Wu Quon it appeared that he was currently in the running for the no.1 position.
