Granting You A Second Life Hiatus - Chapter 129 Rules and Restrictions
Chen Wei outwardly calm demeanor hid his inner annoyance: “Did you all forget where we are? We both advised you to observe the situation before reacting. You don’t even know who she is sitting with. You may all believe that she and her friends are insignificant. However, you should remember she operates on prominent figures regularly.”
Li Na: “Brother-in-law why are you siding with that trash?”
Chen Wei: “I’m not siding with her. If you had all listened to Qiang and me, you wouldn’t have run back here humiliated and angered. The ability to think isn’t reserved for passing exams alone; it should be applied to life as well.”
Li Na sat back feeling her cheeks heating up in embarrassment.
Ling Qiang: “Meiying you’re very quiet, what did you stay back and talk about?”
He Meiying: “Nothing much. I tried to reason with that woman about the situation at the supermarket.”
Ling Qiang didn’t say anything more. He didn’t agree with He Meiying’s assessment and administration of emergency treatment so he didn’t expect Li Xiuiyng to either.
He Meiying changed the subject: “I agree with Brother Qiang and brother Chen. From now we should observe the situation. Perhaps tonight isn’t the best way to deal with her.”
He Meiying made eye contact with Li Yu Yan and asked curiously: “By the way, when I was over there, one of the women told me that Li Xiuiyng is certified in different specialties and is quite senior in her fields.” She herself was a third-year resident yet to specialize.
Li Na and Li Yu Yan looked at each other before Li Yu Yan gently responded: “Senior He, little sister Xiu Xiu is specialized in multiple areas including emergency medicine.”
He Meiying looked incredulous: “So what she said was true? She only looks like she’s in her early 20’s. At her age, she shouldn’t even be specialized in one area let alone multiple.”
Li Yu Yan: “Senior Meiying, we aren’t clear on all the details of little Xiuying’s past before my family took her in. What daddy did say was that Xiuying was given special admittance to a medical school in the UK that her father and mother had ties too. When she lived with us she did undertake various board certification exams.”
He Meiying: “You’re kidding right? Even with my family background and connections, I couldn’t get into medical school early why is she so special?”
Ling Qiang: “Have a look online, all the information is accessible.”
He Meiying got her phone out and started looking up ‘Li Xiuying’ online. She scrunched her face as she looked at Li Yu Yan: “Why did you not tell me any of this earlier?” She had been going on about seniority and her friends hadn’t said anything about Li Xiuying’s training and her childhood. If she had known all of this before then she wouldn’t have confronted Li Xiuying today and just acted behind the scenes to teach her a lesson.
Li Yu Yan: “Senior He, I was about to tell you when the waiter came over with drinks.”
Li Na: “Sis Meiying we would have told you earlier if there hadn’t been an interruption.”
He Meiying: “Really? Why didn’t anyone mention anything when I was recounting my story earlier? Even if you didn’t say anything because outsiders were around, why didn’t either of you tell me after the maître d’ and the waiting staff left?” She wasn’t just blaming the two Li’s, she was blaming everyone at the table.
Ling Qiang: “I thought you meant seniority in terms of age.”
He Meiying gave him a dirty look before looking at the others.
Li Na: “Sis Meiying, please don’t be angry we were caught up in the heat of the moment and it completely slipped our minds. Seeing Li Xiuying behaving so frivolously after everything she’s done just clouded my mind with anger. Otherwise, I would have reminded you to look online earlier.” She was apologizing and subtlety hinting that the information was able all this time even if no one pointed it out. He Meiying should have taken the initiative to do her own background research.
He Meiying felt even more indignant after hearing the responses from everyone.
Tseng Fei Hong: “Look the maître d is coming over.” She wanted to divert everyone’s attention so the atmosphere wouldn’t be so awkward and uncomfortable.
Everyone sat in silence as they watched the maître d approach.
He Meiying caught sight of the 3 men following behind the maître d. She was stunned: “GeGe?”
Maitre D’ approached: “Miss He, your brother and his friends are here to escort you.”
He Meiying sharply turned her head to look at Qilin and Lai Yongliang. Both of them had their chairs positioned at a slight angle so they could watch the show. Qilin had a small smirk on his face.
He Minzhe looked at He Meiying he had a smile on his face: “Well little sister it seems you’ve been having a very good time.”
He Meiying felt a shiver run down her spine. She knew that the angrier her brother was the more he would present an amicable front.
He Minzhe glanced at the rest of the table before grinning widely at He Meiying: “You’ve been away for too long and don’t realize that the benefits of the ‘He’ name comes with rules and restrictions. Even someone as amazing as me has to abide by some of them.”
He Meiying cheeks became red: “Gege.”
He Meiying stood with her head slightly bowed. She peeked at Qin Song and her blush deepened. She felt mortified.
Qin Son didn’t even bother to spare He Meiying a look. Instead, he turned his gaze to the people at her table. He paused when his gaze landed on Li Yu Yan and Chen Wei.
Li Yu Yan and Li Na both stood and greeted the three men. They both tried to hide their predatory gazes. Slowly everyone else at the table stood and began to greet He Minzhe, Qin Song and Shen Qui.
Chen Wei was the last to stand and offered a professional smile and a short greeting.
Li Yu Yan who was at Chen Wei’s side continued to eye the three powerful men before her and daydream. If she could marry into any of these 3 families her status in society would be cemented. No one would be able to look down on her.
Whilst Qin Song was assessing Chen Wei, Chen Wei was also sizing up Qin Song.
Chen Wei: “Mr Qin.”
Qin Song: “Yes?” There was no way he was going to make it known that he knew who Chen Wei was. That would be giving too much importance to someone so insignificant.
Chen Wei wasn’t perturbed by Qin Song’s response. He smoothly said: “I am Dr Chen Wei, surgeon. The future successor of Emerald hospital. I’ve heard that your family has formally taken over Unity hospital. Congratulations.”
Qi Song: “Indeed.”
Chen Wei: “I’ve heard Unity hospital is quite charitable; apparently anyone who applies there can get a job. You’ve even taken in someone like my former fiance. Sadly, at Emerald hospital, we can’t just accept anyone who applies because we have to be selective in order to maintain a certain standard.” He hinted that Li Xiuying was unwanted second-hand goods and that Emerald hospital was at a much higher standard than Unity hospital.
Qin Song: “EX. Dr Li Xiuying is a highly regarded and trusted clinician in the medical world, this is clearly demonstrated by the number of high profile patients that are on the waiting list to be seen by her. I see you’ve brought up our charitable donations. You can submit a request with my secretary if Emerald hospital requires financial assistance. ”
Chen Wei was unphased: “Mr Qin it’s unfortunate for you that money and charitable donations alone won’t help with Unity hospital’s reputation. If you require any advice regarding how to manage a hospital please feel free to contact my secretary.”
Qin Song smirked: “How Unity hospital was before my family took over is of no significance. I have learned a lot from the Emerald Hospital management strategies already. There was an article not so long ago that an inquest was launched into a Dr. Yang Zian. He has supposedly sabotaged the careers of other doctors. I was surprised to find out that the inquest ended very quickly and reported that no evidence of medical errors or negligence was found. The previously struck off doctors had their licenses reinstated and Dr Yang Zian continues to subject people to his methods. I would be interested to learn what his methods are. I suppose I should just ask those several doctors since they are now working at Unity hospital. I’m sure you will be happy to hear that they are doing very well, serving to improve surgical outcomes and improving the Unity hospital surgical training program. Its fortunate for them that Unity hospital accepts nearly all qualified people who apply. Oh, I’ve digressed so much that it seems I have forgotten what my point was.”
Qin Song was satisfied when he saw Chen Wei’s demeanor crack.
