Granting You A Second Life Hiatus - Chapter 139 He Cringed At His Own Words
Shen Xiaosi rapidly moved his hands to take down the keywords from LI Xiuying long list of orders: “I will have all these tasks taken care of today.”
Li Xiuying: “Do not disappoint me.” She closed her laptop and put it in her rucksack.
Shen Xiaosi wanted confirmation: “Does that mean I still have my job?”
Li Xiuying: “Yes.”
Shen Xiaosi’s calm facade broke a little: “Why?” He hadn’t completed all the tasks and his ideas were clearly ones that Li Xiuying had already thought of and put into action herself.
Li Xiuying pulled a white envelope from her bag and handed it to Shen Xiaosi. She then left the office.
He opened the envelope and found a handwritten letter and a check for 2950 Yen; it was his monthly salary.
He unfolded the envelope and read:
[Shen Xiaosi, you have been hired for several reasons:
-Your ability to analyze tasks and prioritize jobs whilst maintaining a good standard of work.
-You have taken into account urgency, patient safety, time constraints, and my reputation.
-Not following tasks blindly, thinking outside the box and making useful adjustments.
-You have clearly researched the medical field and adapted to your new role.
-You have the basic skills any PA should have as demonstrated by your note-taking ability.
-Your actions and behavior today demonstrates your modesty, humility and the high standards and expectations you expect of yourself.
I look forward to working with you, do not disappoint me.
Li Xiuying]
The letter demonstrated Li Xiuying’s ability to assess a person objectively and also her amazing foresight. Shen Xiaosi folded the letter back carefully and returned it to the envelope. He looked at the check that had a post-it note on the back [This is an advance].
Shen Xiaosi finally felt all the tension leave him. The Qin’s had paid for the contract termination fee and he was given a probationary 3-month work contract that was under Dr Li Xiuying’s name specifically, not under the employment of Unity hospital. His CV already included a premature contract termination, he didn’t want to add a dismissal as a bullet point.
Shen Xiaosi retrieved the task list from Li Xiuying’s desk and rolled to his desk to begin working. He had just logged in when he remembered he hadn’t given Li Xiuying the recording of Jiang Huan’s taxi journey.
Shen Xiaosi: “It won’t make much of a difference considering that by tonight Jiang Huan would probably be planning to leave the country, to live with her parents. Well, that’s what she would do if she was smart.”
He resumed his work.
…..
Emerald hospital
Yan Zian was strolling into his urology clinic. He was dressed in a blue and white striped shirt, crisp black trousers, and Italian leather shoes. He also had custom made cufflinks on with his initials and a Rolex watch on.
Chen Wei had said last night that he needed to do more clinics, so he would have more contact time with patients.
He passed a health care assistant on his way to his clinic room: “I’ll take a coffee, enough milk so that it is bronze in appearance and 2 level teaspoons of sugar.”
Healthcare assistant: “Yes Dr Yang Zian.” She was internally cursing her luck to be assigned to this Yang Zian’s clinic this morning. His reputation proceeded him; he looked down on everyone especially those that were not doctors.
Yang Zian paused at the door to his clinic room and remembered one of the important factors in improving his reputation was treating colleagues well; regardless of their role. He looked at the healthcare assistants’ ID that was hung around her neck.
Yang Zian put on a professional smile: “Please. Bao Ehuang.”
Bao Ehuang was startled: “Ah. Yes…Yes I’ll get that for you now.”
Yang Zian: “No rush. I realize you must be busy with organizing the clinic.”
Bao Ehuang stood in the hallway openmouthed as he watched Yang Zian walked away.
When Yang Zian stepped into his room, he cringed at his own words: “I hope I don’t have to keep this up for long.”
He went in and began looking at the patient list on the computer: “20 patients in one morning? Is this a joke. Why don’t I just change my name to Yang Lǘ?!”
Yang Zian kept muttering insults about Chen Wei and his workload as he skimmed through the patient list to see whether they were new or old patients.
Just as he got the details up for his first patient… he heard a commotion begin outside in the hallway.
Yang Zian frowned as he stood from his chair, he repeated in his mind ‘ Remember to be civil.”
Yang Zian went outside and he was greeted with a scene of numerous people with cameras snooping around and hassling work staff.
One of the journalists pointed and shouted: “Look over there that’s Dr Yang Zian!”
All the journalists immediately surrounded him, numerous shutter sounds went off.
“Dr Yang Zian did you really sabotage the careers of your fellow colleagues by putting the lives of your patients at risk?”
“Dr Yang Zian is it true you bribed a senior medical council member Dr Zhi Weizhe, to produce a fake inquest report?”
One journalist jeered: “Did you use the money from your offshore accounts to pay for your outfit today?”
“Dr Yang Zian is it true you hired people to injure a colleague who was competing with you for a promotion ?!”
Yang Zian was shellshocked as question after question about his personal matters were asked. He couldn’t fathom how they even knew about matters that he had long since buried and destroyed evidence for.
Yang Zian shouted: “Call security! Security!” He looked around and saw staff members and patients alike staring at him unmoving. He quickly got back into the clinic room and locked the door behind him
The paparazzi began banging on the door and still continued to shout questions at him.
He went over to the clinic window and closed the blinds just in case people tried to look in. He put a chair under the door handle and made sure it was secure.
Yang Zian took his phone out of his pocket and called Chen Wei.
Yang Zian listened to it ringing before it connected: “Chen Wei there are…”
[The mobile number you have called is currently unavailable. This person’s phone…]
Yang Zian cursed: “For F*** Sake!”
He grabbed the recieved from the phone on the table and called the operator.
Operator: “Hello switchboard were would…”
Yang Zian: “Dr Chen Wei’s secretary”.
Switchboard: “Connecting you now.”
When his call was connected, Yang Zian spoke to the secretary and found out he was in theatre 21 this morning.
He quickly dialed the number for theater 21.
Female voice: “Hello theater 9.”
Yang Zian: “This is Dr Yang Zian I need to talk to Dr Chen Wei now its an emergency.”
He heard some muffled talking and the receiver being moved around.
Chen Wei: “Yang Zian what’s going on?”
Yang Zian whispered into the receiver whilst covering his mouth: “There’s paparazzi here at the clinic. They’re banging on my door as we speak. They… ” He was about to tell him that they knew everything but if he did that then he knew Chen Wei would abandon him right now. He had to at least get out of here in one piece.
Chen Wei: “They what? Has security been called?”
Yang Zian: “They’re trying to break down the door. I’ve tried to barricade myself in. I haven’t called security, I shouted for the staff outside to call but they just stood around.” If he was going down he would take others with him, Chen Wei wouldn’t support those that didn’t protect the reputation of the hospital.
Chen Wei: “Stay where you are. I’m calling security now. I’ll be there as soon as I can. Don’t talk to anyone or say anything.”
Yang Zian steadied himself. He used his mobile to make another phone call.
Yang Zian: “I need to talk to Zong Yingpei now its an emergency. This is Yang Zian.”
Secretary: “Please wait a moment.”
Yang Zian looked over at the door that was still being banged on. “Come on. Come on.”
Zong Yingpei: “Hello Dr Yang. What’s happened?”
Yang Zian: “Listen, I’ve got the paparazzi banging on the door to my clinic, I don’t know if I’m going to be arrested. I need you to get to the hospital now.”
Zong Yingpei: “I’m on my way now. Do not say anything to anyone until I get there. Not even to other staff members at the hospital.”
Yang Zian: “Get here quickly.”
