- Chapter 143 There Is No Smoke Without Fire
Qin Song began to ponder about why Li Xiuying was always wearing gloves. He recalled that every time he had seen her, her hands were gloved. She also flinched quite significantly earlier and he wouldn’t take that personally since she was practically drooling while staring at him. ‘Is it to protect her hands or some sort of mysophobia?’
Qin Song didn’t know why his thought patterns were becoming so unusual. He uttered under his breath: “It can’t be normal?”
Li Xiuying looked up: “Hmm?”
Qin Song: “Is there anything abnormal?”
Li Xiuying: “No the dates are fine. So we will have 5 sessions before Christmas and 5 sessions after?”
Qin Song nodded.
Li Xiuying pulled out the papers she had prepared the night before.: “I have created a timetable for each of the days and the activities. I have asked Shen Xiaosi to contact the theatre coordinator and collect any surgical supplies such as sutures which are no longer in date. To be used for the practical session. I have also contacted the clinical skills coordinator and asked them for equipment and advice regarding the sessions. Some of the clinical skills staff would be happy to facilitate practical sessions.”
Qin Song nodded as he scanned the documents in front of him. The time tables were detailed and each day had an itinerary. Li Xiuying had also created group names using semi-precious stones that were mined in China. The groups were as follows: Peridot, Agate, Amber, Cinnabar, Corundum, Sapphire, Garnet, Nephrite, Turquoise and Opal. He thought it was interesting that Jade and diamond were not listed. He was easily able to deduce it was because the children may fight for those two groups and the other not in the groups may feel inferior.
Qin Song: “I will ask my PA to send an email to our staff about the dates and times. From this, we will create a table of volunteers, as well as a backup list, in case of last-minute cancellations.”
Li Xiuying nodded: “Certificates can be given to staff as roof they intended the sessions. They can also be included in portfolios.”
Qin Song: “I will include this in the email. I will get Jingfei to sign the certificates. The volunteers will receive breakfast and lunch.”
Li Xiuying: “Good incentives.” Who doesn’t like free food?
Qin Song: “How is your new assistant?”
Li Xiuying didn’t expect Qin Song to enquire: “He’s good, so far.”
Qin Song was pleased. He had been the one who scouted out Shen Xiaosi so he felt responsible for him. He played it cool: “We can’t have another Jiang Huan fiasco, it could ruin the hospital’s reputation.”
Li Xiuying: “Mmm.” She thought it was natural to want to protect the hospital from potential drama.
Qin Song checked his watch: “I will need to head off in 5 minutes. Was there anything else that you wished to discuss?”
Li Xiuying: “The lunch vouchers and introductory bags for the children.”
Qin Song: “I am having my contact look into producing the small cloth bags and stationery with our hospital logo. I am looking into novelty items such as injection pens, skeleton rubbers, medical post-its etc ”
Li Xiuying: “Sounds fun.” She wouldn’t mind having some novelty pens herself.
Li Xiuying pulled out a bright yellow A5 envelope from her bag: “Could you please pass this on to little 4th.”
Qin Song reached for the envelope and without looking placed it inside his inner pocket: “Okay.” He would sneak a peek at it later when little 4th opened it… purely to help little 4th understand any difficult content of course.
He stood up and Li Xiuying could now fully admire Qin Song.
Qin Song’s lip twitched: “Was there anything else you wished to discuss?”
Li Xiuying shook her head: “Thank you. No.”
Li Xiuying stood to leave and a musky rich cologne assaulted her senses. It was masculine and embodied Qin Song perfectly.
Qin Song opened the office door: “After you.”
Li Xiuying stepped out.
Qin Song: “Our next meeting will be on Wednesday at 2:00. I will have my PA email you the location to my office.”
Li Xiuying: “Okay.”
Li Xiuying went one way and Qin Song went the other.
Qin Song had a small smile on his face as he walked down the hallway.
3 teenagers girls fanned themselves and squealed when they saw Qin Song turning the corner and was out of sight.
“Damn. Who is he? He looks like he walked out of GQ.”
“I think my eyes are pregnant.”
“I can never get pregnant! My ovaries just exploded because of his hotness.”
…..
Qin Song went to his office which was one floor up.
He entered his office and found 3 doctors waiting inside for him.
Qin Song greeted everyone: “Dr Ho, Dr Cai, Dr Pan. Thank you all for waiting.”
He sat in the chair behind the large glass desk.
Qin Song: “I will be brief so as not keep you all away from your duties. Yang Zian has been arrested and this has been reported in the news. I expect that the media will descend upon Unity hospital trying to interview all of you.”
All the doctors had varying expressions from anger, to anxious, to calm.
Dr Cai was nervous: “Do we have to talk to them or are you asking us to avoid them?”
Qin Song: “Each of you can make that decision on your own. Unity hospital will support you in any way we can including a PR manager and legal representation.”
Dr Cai nodded and fidgeted with her hands.
Dr Pan was angry as she said: “I don’t want to have anything to do with the media. They tore us all to shreds without any care for the truth when that animal framed us and destroyed our careers. He may have done the most harm but they helped to put the final nail in the coffin.”
Dr Ho: “I don’t want the media or Yang Zian to get away with what they did. I feel like we now have a platform and the support we never had, to get the truth out there.”
Dr Pan: “They’ll just twist our words as they did in the past. Emerald hospital made me their scapegoat, colleagues turned their backs on me and saved themselves and eve the medical council struck me off without blinking. They didn’t even properly investigate everything that happened. I’m sure both of you had similar experiences of being isolated, blamed, jeered at and beaten down.”
Dr Cai: “I don’t want to talk to the media.”
Qin Song: “You will be permitted to leave early. We will have 2 security guards lead you out through the back. I will arrange a driver to drive you home today.”
Dr Cai: “Thank you.”
Dr Ho: “I would like to issue a statement at some point but I don’t want to appear in front of the media.”
Qin Song: “I will have someone from Qin enterprises PR team here to aid you in writing your statement when you are ready.”
Dr Pan: “I’m not in the right frame of mind to make a decision at this moment. I would just like to go home today.”
Qin Song: “There are enough doctors in your department today. This is an extenuating circumstance and if you require some days off, it can be arranged.” He had already prepared for additional staff to fill in for all 3 doctors.
Dr Cai’s said sadly: “I would like to take some time off, please. I just don’t want to be hounded like before. It was already difficult integrating with staff members here; since some of them knew who I was. People will always believe there is no smoke without fire.”
Qin Song: “You can take 1 week off. I will arrange everything else. Please call Director Qin’s PA if anything occurs during this time. He has been notified to treat all your calls and messages as a priority.”
Dr Pan: “I want to take a few days too.”
Qin Song: “Arrangements will be made.”
Qin Song: “I will have people escort you out of the hospital and drivers to drive you home.”
All the doctors nodded in agreement, none of them wanted to continue working. They wouldn’t be able to work at 100% with thoughts of Yang Zian and their pasts circling their minds.
Qin Song had long since predicted the doctor’s response and put a plan in place. He made a quick call to the security team.
A few minutes later there was a knock on the door, followed by a group of security guards.
Qin Song: “Please escort the doctors out of the hospital.”
Qin Song: “If you will excuse me, I have another meeting to attend.”
