Granting You A Second Life Hiatus - Chapter 150 Intellectual Accumen
Qilin blew out a puff of spoke: “Hmm. It’s strange to find in someone not part of our world. Her history doesn’t suggest that she has gone through anything drastically traumatic. Perhaps it’s her natural disposition? It’s intriguing.”
Tu Nianzu muttered under his breath: “There’s nothing intriguing. She just doesn’t know what true fear is.”
Qilin’s voice contained humor: “Hmm?”
Elder Tu looked into Tu Nianzu’s eyes the same way he had looked into Li Xiuying’s. He slowly released a fraction of his cold murderous aura.
Tu Nianzu gripped the arms of his chair and swallowed hard. His grandfather had never so much as said a word of chastisement before let alone stare him down in such a way.
Elder Tu sighed and reigned in his aura. Perhaps he had been too soft on this grandson of his.
Elder Tu: “Nianzu, continue to speak with your uncle.” He stood up and left the room.
Tu Nianzu relaxed when the door clicked closed. He tentatively looked ver at his uncle.
Qilin motioned with the hand holding the cigarette to the chair in front of him: “Take a seat.”
Tu Nianzu sat in the chair: “Uncle I don’t understand why you and grandfather are treating this as such a big deal. We can always find a doctor or pay Li Xiuying to do the operation.” To him she was just a simple hired hand with a price like all other people for sale, 100k check of cash. His family could hire her for the rest of her career if they wanted.
Qilin put his cigarette out in the ashtray. He spoke with a smile on his face: ” Tu Nianzu you don’t seem to be understanding your mistakes.”
Tu Nianzu didn’t answer and just sat quietly.
Qilin: “Speak your mind.” What he didn’t say was this would be Tu Nianzu’s only opportunity to speak his mind about this subject without any repercussions.
Tu Nianzu: “Uncle I just feel that she values herself to highly. In China alone, there are many skilled surgeons and better doctors than her. Why is she hailed as the best? Simply because she is the youngest? Doesn’t it strike you as odd that she is so young and has the experience she does? How is it even possible?”
Qilin sat quietly and continued to listen to Tu Nianzu’s ramblings.
Tu Nianzu: “Furthermore I would say that I’m a competent medical student, as is evident by my academic achievements to date. I am always at the top of my year, I have participated in numerous extracurricular activities and have even published papers in highly regarded journals. I have excelled in all my practical lessons/ training. Even when I’m in the theater, the surgeons allow me to do much more than the average medical student. Yet I am not afforded to have the same opportunities as someone who trained abroad? I have the background, the achievements, the intellectual acumen to reach higher heights.”
Qilin smirked a little. ‘People would always reveal what they truly felt if you let them continue unfettered. Nianzu’s problem with Li Xiuying; was that he was jealous.”
Qilin: “Anything else?”
Tu Nianzu: “Uncle, we can find a better surgeon. One who is more malleable and … humble”
Qilin: “Tu Nianzu, let me paint a picture for you.”
Tu Nianzu tried to keep his anger in check at Li Xiuying’s, just thinking of her made him angry.
Qilin: “We can indeed hire any surgeon in China or from anywhere around the world. They would be malleable but they would also have fear embedded deep in their hearts. They would question routine decisions because they would be worried about what if. What if they messed up and the lives of their family became forfeit. Li Xiuying has the courage/stupidity/lack of self-preservation call it whatever you will, to operate on anyone from the underworld who can pay. She works well under pressure from external factors. Father’s life would be safe under her scalpel. She would not hesitate to make the necessary decisions.”
Tu Nianzu: “Doesn’t that show that they would worry about father’s life, instead of recklessly rushing forward with their decisions?”
Qilin: “You still aren’t understanding or your eyes are too clouded by your jealousy for you to comprehend the situation. Not everyone in this life will have the same opportunities. You should make opportunities and force fate to give you what you want.”
Tu Nianzu thought to himself ‘All I’ve been doing is working hard. Even so, I will still be behind Li Xiuying. I’m not jealous, I just can’t stand someone who acts like she’s above someone because fate had been kind to her.”
Qilin: “My last 2 points. I personally negotiated for Li Xiuying to operate on father. You should have respected my judgment. You should have focused on everything that was in the file I gave you about Li Xiuinyg. You seem to have forgotten that she has operated on me.” He lifted his top to reveal his sculpted chest and abdomen.
Tu Nianzu was shocked when he saw scars across his uncle’s body. There were numerous scars that looked like healed knife wounds. However, what stood out the most was the large midline vertical scar that extended from his sternum down to the bottom of his abdomen. Only those who were present the day that Qilin was attacked knew and saw the extent of his injuries. Tu Nianzu had only heard rumors that Qilin’s heart had been punctured, his bowels had been lacerated, numerous stab wounds, and a multitude of fractures.
This was Tu Nianzu’s first time seeing these scars. His uncle was a private man who would never reveal his scars, he would never walk around topless. He also knew his uncle would view these scars as his weakness, that he had allowed someone this close to him.
Qilin: “Do you think you would have been able to preserve my life? Or would you just have avenged my life after my passing?”
Tu Nianzu looked down at the floor.
Qilin: “Lastly, did you forget the origin of my name? My mother was American and died several days after giving birth to me. It was her wish that I be integrated into the Chinese culture she loved so much and so she chose my true name to be that of a mythical beast.” Otherwise, who would call their child such a name?
Tu Nianzu: “I apologize for my earlier comments uncle.”
Qilin: “You have managed to insult me, your foreign grandmother and your disposable grandfather today. Outsiders would have died for less. I suggest that you use your intellectual acumen to rectify this entire situation.” He had deliberately reiterated the words Tu Nianzu had used.
…..
Li Xiuying waited for the traffic lights to change. Initially, she was angered by Tu Nianzu’s and the lack of action from Qilin and Elder Tu. However, she started to view this situation as a blessing in disguise. It would be too tiresome to have someone from Qilin’s workforce work so close to her.
She dialed Ren Daiyu’s number.
Ren Daiyu: “It’s nice of you to remember the little people in your life!”
Li Xuiying smiled: “Promote public relations.”
Ren Daiyu: “Hmph.”
Li Xiuying: “I need help.”
Ren Daiyu immediately turned serious: “What do you need? Are you okay? Did something happen?”
Li Xiuying: “Nothing much. I need someone good at acquiring information.”
Ren Daiyu: “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Li Xiuying: “I’m 99.9% fine.”
Ren Daiyu snorted: “Well that’s a relief. If you said 100% I would have to question your identity and your mental state. Hmmm, let me think…”
Ren Daiyu suddenly broke the silence: “Yes I think I may have someone who can help you. A kid from a case I actually declined to take, I thought he deserved a second chance instead of being prosecuted by the state. He’s got the skills but his personality is challenging to say the least.”
Li Xiuying: “I’ll meet you for brunch on Sunday. Make sure you invite the vice general.”
Ren Daiyu: “Sunday sounds good. Huh? Vice general?”
Li Xiuying: “Dark alpaca.”
Ren Daiyu was even more confused: “Dark alpaca? Changying? What?”
Li Xiuying laughed in response.

Qin Song arrived home and changed into his slippers.
He was about to head upstairs to freshen up when a small bun blocked his path.Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.comfor visiting.
Qin Song: “Yes?”
Little 4th: “Big Sister YingYing didn’t pick up my calls. I tried to call 4 times and it all went to voicemail.” Little 4th lucky number was naturally 4. He felt that doing something 4 times was the maximum anyone should try. So calling 4 times and receiving no answer meant catastrophic trouble.
Qin Song raised a brow: “She might be busy.”
Little 4th pointed at his brother: “Ah-Ha. I knew it. You’re overworking her.”
Qin Song smiled: “If I was, what are you going to do about it?”
