…
Emerging from the quiet room, Jiang Chen wore a somewhat gloomy expression.
“Finally, you’ve emerged, Daoist Friend Jiang Chen!” Mo Hao exclaimed with joy, stepping forward hastily to greet him, all while disregarding Jiang Chen’s darkened countenance.
“Something’s gone wrong, Daoist Friend Mo Hao,” Jiang Chen stated grimly.
He held several red magatamas in his hand, soul seeds belonging to his subordinates that could convey simple thoughts to some extent. Jiang Chen and his team had prearranged signals.
Just a short while ago, a message came through these soul seeds, indicating an anomaly in the spatial node beneath the Bottomless Abyss. No further explanation was needed; it was clear that the demon race was trying to open a spatial channel.
“What? What’s happened?” Mo Hao’s face showed concern, but inwardly he was indifferent. At this moment, his sole desire was to act ostentatiously; other matters held no interest for him.
“The demon race is trying to open the spatial channel of the Bottomless Abyss again!” Jiang Chen looked at Mo Hao. “Their onslaught this time will surely be far more terrifying. Last time, they sent more than one Middle-stage Transcendence realm demon. Now, it’s highly probable that a great powerhouse from the Nirvana Peering realm will make an appearance.”
“What! A great powerhouse from the Nirvana Peering realm?” Mo Hao’s face turned serious for a moment. “That would indeed be a problem!”
However, his smile quickly returned. “Rest assured, Daoist Friend Jiang Chen. I have a way for the Immortal Martial Continent to weather this crisis!”
“Oh? What’s the method?” Jiang Chen inquired, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.
In truth, he likely already had an idea of what Mo Hao was plotting.
If his hunch was accurate, the plan involved gaining strength through ostentatious acts, humiliating those who had disparaged him before the demon race’s invasion, and then dealing a decisive blow to the demons!
Sure enough, Mo Hao declared, “The solution is quite simple!”
“All that’s needed is for Daoist Friend Jiang Chen to allow me to roam freely across the Immortal Martial Continent.”
“However, there’s a single condition: you, Daoist Friend Jiang Chen, must not interfere in any of my actions, nor even disclose my identity.”
“In essence, act as though I don’t exist.”
“Soon enough, after completing my wanderings, I’ll naturally gain the power to wipe out the demon race!” His gaze met Jiang Chen’s, his expression a mix of arrogance and mystery, as he eagerly awaited Jiang Chen’s shocked and incredulous response.
In Mo Hao’s mind, his proposal was outlandish, something Jiang Chen would certainly find hard to believe. Yet, given that Jiang Chen was backed into a corner with no other alternatives, he would likely resort to trying anything, thus granting Mo Hao an opportunity to test his plan.
Under circumstances where Jiang Chen was completely disbelieving and desperate, Mo Hao could then proceed with his wanderings—ostentatiously amassing power—and return to fundamentally shake Jiang Chen’s beliefs. In doing so, he would stage yet another grand spectacle and rack up additional Pretentious Points.
If Mo Hao successfully put on airs before Jiang Chen, the Pretentious Points he’d accumulate would undoubtedly be significant.
Next, having gained formidable strength, he could also display ostentation before the demon race.
Thus, once the snowball started rolling, his rise would be unstoppable!
Yet, Jiang Chen’s response caught Mo Hao off guard.
“No need to worry, I understand that the universe is vast and full of possibilities. If you say wandering will make you stronger, I believe you,” Jiang Chen said, a confident smile suddenly gracing his face. “However, if I’ve successfully repelled the demon race’s invasion once, I can certainly do it again.”
“Huh?” Mo Hao stared at Jiang Chen, disbelief coloring his expression. “You yourself said the demon race is likely to bring Nirvana Peering realm experts this time.”
“While you do possess the combat strength of the Late-stage Transcendence realm, that’s still insufficient against the demon race in the Nirvana Peering realm.”
“I honestly can’t see how you could fend off the demon invasion.”
“Do you plan on severing the spatial channel? They’ll surely be prepared for that and won’t let you succeed.”
“So, trust me this once, Daoist Friend Jiang Chen,” he urged, utterly baffled by the source of Jiang Chen’s confidence.
“I’ve already told you, I believe you,” Jiang Chen said, looking at Mo Hao with a smile and eyes filled with certainty. “But I also have a genuine method to thwart the demon invasion.”
“However, I’ll need your help for it. I hope you’ll assist me,” he added.
“This!” Mo Hao blurted out, “You really have a method?”
“Your strength is currently limited; what if something unforeseen occurs and your plan fails?”
Feeling a surge of emotion, he declared, “I still believe that I should be the one to act. It’s more reliable than relying on you, whether you believe it or not.”
“Haha,” Jiang Chen uttered, a faint smile on his lips. “There’s zero possibility of failure.”
“I wouldn’t gamble with the lives of countless beings in the Immortal Martial Continent,” he declared, his tone unwavering.
“Sigh, I know you don’t believe me,” Mo Hao said, shaking his head. “How about we make a bet?”
“A bet?” Jiang Chen responded with a smile. “What sort of bet?”
“You claim you can manage the demon race’s impending disaster,” Mo Hao proposed.
“Then go ahead and repel them while I proceed with my wanderings. We’ll strike from both angles, thus increasing our chances of averting this crisis!”
He stated confidently, “If I can’t attain a level where I can single-handedly resolve the demon invasion, then you can consider me the loser.”
“What’s at stake if you lose?” Jiang Chen inquired, shaking his head with a smile. “Are you proposing to bet your secrets?”
“Haha,” Mo Hao let out a dry chuckle, “Let’s opt for a different wager. How about ten million high-grade spirit stones?”
“Very well. I accept the bet,” Jiang Chen said, nodding with a smile. “Proceed with your wanderings; I’m curious to see just how remarkable you can be.”
In truth, Jiang Chen could readily find another reason to decline Mo Hao’s offer.
However, he was wary that pressuring Mo Hao excessively might provoke a sudden shift in the Heavenly Fate.
Furthermore, he surmised that the anomalies in the spatial node within the Bottomless Abyss, which could lead to another demon invasion, might be partially prompted by the Heavenly Fate in response to him keeping Mo Hao confined in the Cave Heaven, thereby inhibiting him from concocting any plots.
Additionally, if he obstructed Mo Hao from devising a particular plot, he would also lose the opportunity to thwart that plot, making it challenging to diminish Mo Hao’s Heavenly Fate Value.
After pondering the matter, he resolved to let Mo Hao proceed.
Once Mo Hao had set his plan in motion, Jiang Chen would then take it apart!
Regarding the demon race invasion, his strength had surged dramatically in just a matter of days. For him, stopping the demon incursion was no longer a formidable challenge.
“Excellent! Daoist Friend Jiang Chen, please open the spatial channel so I can embark on my wanderings!” Mo Hao’s face beamed with excitement. “Remember, don’t reveal my identity to anyone; behave as if I’m not here.”
“I assure you, I won’t disclose your identity and will refrain from interfering in your wanderings throughout the Immortal Martial Continent,” Jiang Chen said with a smile. “However, keep in mind that I have no control over the demon race. As you’re aware, they still have hidden powerhouses within the Immortal Martial Continent…”
“I understand. Go ahead and open the spatial door,” Mo Hao nodded. “For added precaution, I’d like to be transported far from the Pure Frost Domain.”
He had already resolved to travel far from the Pure Frost Domain, concealing his identity to play the fool in order to outsmart the wise.
He found it hard to believe that, despite his caution, he would draw the attention of that dark sprite demon.
Furthermore, as long as he could amass some Pretentious Points, he wouldn’t fear facing that demon again!
What Mo Hao couldn’t possibly have anticipated, however, was that the dark sprite demon he had previously encountered was none other than Jiang Chen in disguise!
“Very well, I’ll open the door for you now.” A slight curve formed on Jiang Chen’s lips as he produced the secret key to Cave Heaven, opening a spatial channel.
