Chapter 404: What If III
“But wait… assuming this is true, why am I the one they would want to get rid of?”
“I should be more valuable to the team than Mylo is, after all, we don’t have that many wingers, but strikers are more than enough, not to mention contributions,” Jason muttered trying to make sense of the situation.
“I just told you, the more valuable one has to leave,”
“Mylo has just joined the team from the academy and he has been playing well so the club wouldn’t want to sell him yet as his market value hasn’t built up that much yet,”
“If they chose to sell him, they’d lose a valuable talent and get paid around 20 million Euros at most when considering that he’s only been active for half a season, and even that would be an optimistic price as there aren’t many people looking to buy Mylo yet,”
“However you are a different case,”
“You already have suitors from top clubs and are worth at least 60 million Euros in today’s market and that’s considering that you will be sold in a rush, otherwise you could garner a transfer fee of over a hundred million,”
“They’d easily gain more, and you forget that you are the one who is dissatisfied, Mylo doesn’t seem to show any problems with the status quo, so everything is in favor of them wanting to sell you instead,”
“If they sold you for 60 – 70 million Euros, it’s not just considered good business, it’s almost a case of sitting back and letting money appear in their lap, after all, you were almost free to acquire in the first place,” Adele explained again to Jason.
“Ok wow,” Jason muttered in amazement as he realized that her words made sense and the situation began to seem even more plausible and no longer sounded like a far-fetched conspiracy theory.
“Don’t take my words too seriously, I could be wrong and just be overdoing it with the conspiracy theory thing,” Adele laughed a bit, hoping that her thought process was wrong.
“Nah, I prefer to assume the worst, so let’s continue assuming,” Jason stated.
“Assuming that your conspiracy theory is true and the management wants me out, then what next?” he asked Adele.
“If by what next, you are referring to yourself, then I don’t know, but if you’re referring to what I think the club will do, then I see two ways,” Adele replied.
“Continue,” Jason urged.
“First, they can be direct and make it clear that they are looking to offload you in this transfer window, and personally speaking, that is the best option for you as everyone gets what they want, but I don’t think they’d do that,”
“Rather, I think they’d try to frustrate you more with anything and everything possible. Mindgames, weird articles, maybe not even letting you play so that you will have no choice but to hand in a transfer request. They’re probably confident that you’re already very dissatisfied and all you will need is a push,” Adele explained.
“But what’s the point of doing that?” Jason asked.
“Their reputation… if they directly say they want to sell you, it would raise a lot of questions about the matter and people will start wondering why. In the process of that, someone may find out about your issue with Mylo and that would affect the club’s reputation and may force them to make some adverse decisions concerning Mylo,”
“Considering they wouldn’t want to lose both of you, it would be better to get you to be the one to hand in a transfer request,”
“By doing that, you will be the one drawing the attention of the media and they would look like victims of a young talented player’s whims who thinks he is too big for the club,”
“At that time, even if the matter between you and Mylo is found out, people will not feel the same way and the truth may even be distorted in his favor instead,” Adele explained.
“Hmmmm…” Jason murmured as he tried to add that to the situation he had created in his mind and the plausibility increased again.
“Ugh, I don’t like how this conspiracy theory of yours keeps making sense every passing second,” he muttered as he thought it through once again.
He didn’t have much trust in the club’s management right from the start and knew that nothing he was thinking was too far-fetched, but at the same time, it was too early for him to accept all the conjunctures that had been placed before him.
“I already told you, it could just be us over thinking the situation and the club might not have any thoughts in that direction at all,” Adele repeated, trying to divert Jason’s thoughts from the matter as she saw that he had taken her words quite seriously.
“But what if, Delle… what if?” Jason asked.
“Then we deal with it when it comes,”
“If what we are thinking happens at some point, then we simply deal with it then, unless of course, you have a different plan in mind,” Adele replied.
“Now that you mention it, I do have a plan in mind,” Jason muttered and a smirk appeared at the corner of his lips.
“If things are as you say, then I should begin to see the signs from tomorrow at training. If nothing happens like you said, then we’re all good for a bit, but if I notice anything strange, then I’m not going to just let things slide,”
“if they’re looking to make a quick buck off me while also damaging my reputation in the process, then I can’t just let things slide,”he smirked.
“But what will you do? A transfer is the only way out and either way I mentioned has it’s own perks and they could both be just as damaging,” Adele pointed out.
“You are right that a transfer is the best way out of this situation, but who said the transfer has to be a permanent one?” Jason’s smirk widened further.
