Guns And Fantasy - Chapter 6 Start Of New Life
After an unknown amount of time Nate woke up in an unfamiliar room that was small but warm. Nate tried to move but stinging pain ran all over his body as he fell back to bed again. Slowly he sat up and looked around to see where he was.
The room was small but clean and didn’t hold much decorative items, there was only a tea table besides his bed. A small window allowed enough sunlight to pass its warmth inside the room. He sat against his back on the bed and gazed outside the window losing himself in thoughts about that unfortunate day.
Nate took a deep breath as he let out a smile. He had survived, he had killed and he was lost but he felt refreshed somehow. The guilt of killing someone was gone along with his previous life and most of all he felt a foreign power running through his body constantly healing his wounds.
With every breath he took he felt the power grow by a margin. “Is this magic?” Nate said to himself as he raised his hand in front of him. After trying to gather the unfamiliar power towards his hand a small magic circle as big as his palm formed and a gun similar to the one from before appeared in his hand.
{M1911 originally designed by James Moses Browning during the first world war and adopted by US military as official side arm in 1911 also known as Colt .45. Produced by Colt Manufacturing Company uses .45 ACP bullets…..} As Nate gazed at the gun rows of information appeared near his eyes giving detail about the gun and its history. “I summoned a gun. Fascinating” Nate admired the gun as he held it in the hand.
He had never held a gun in his previous life and didn’t know much about them. All he knew was guns were dangerous weapons that could end someone’s life if not used properly. He played enough shooter games to understand the basics of the gun as he cocked the slide of the gun. The hammer touched his skin and he knew if he pulled the trigger the gun would fire.
Nate tried to recall the gun back to his body and it disappeared. He summoned it again and sent it back couple of times. “Simple enough, but why can’t I summon another gun. Is there some restrictions on it?” Nate questioned himself as he tried to summon a different gun but failed to do so.
A sudden weakness hit him as he realized the magic power inside his body was running out. Nate laid back down and closed his eyes again to rest. He had yet to recover completely and he could explore his abilities later.
After few hours he heard someone open the door to his room and enter. Nate opened his eyes to look at his savior and saw a beautiful face. The owner of the beautiful face saw Nate was awake and soon a small smile formed in her face as her lips formed a beautiful curve.
“You’re awake! I thought it’d take few more days for you to recover” The Woman spoke as she brought a bowl of water and bandages on a tray. She probably there to change the bandages on Nate.
“How long was I asleep?” Nate questioned as he let her do her thing. Nate’s heart beat started to rise as the beautiful face came close to his own as the woman removed the bandage wrapping his head along with his left eye.
“A single day. Don’t move your or you’ll have a permanent scar on your pretty face” The woman removed the old bandage and cleaned the wound in his left eye. His left face looked horrible as it was swollen by a huge degree turning red and blue and with all the herbs they applied to heal him the wound looked worse than it was.
“Pretty face! Is it weird that i find that a bit offending” Nate said as he looked at the cleavage of the woman. The deep ravine between the mountain made him take an audible gulp.
“Take it however you want pretty face. Anyway how did you end up like this.” The woman displayed a playful smile as she cleaned his wound and start to wrap new bandage on his head.
“We got ambushed by bandits. I somehow managed to escape, others weren’t lucky as me.” Nate said as he questioned himself ‘Was that even luck? That was the worst day of my life. At least I survived’
“Hmm, not surprised seeing who brought you here. OK my job here is done. I’ll notify your saviors and bring you something to eat. And try to forget about the incident, this type of incident has been increasing since the war began. Life is tough but so are we.” The woman stood up and pushed the tray towards the door.
“Wait! What’s your name?” Nate asked in hurry as he saw the woman leaving the room.
“Hehe, Love in first sight is it. The name is Scarlet.” The woman laughed as she pushed her hair behind her hair and left.
“Love in first sight! I don’t know that but I don’t mind if that happened” Nate laughed as he recalled her appearance. Red hair, oval face and deep blue eyes not to mention her melons. Her physical appearance and easy going personality was a killer combo.
After few moment the door opened again but to his disappointment it was not Scarlet that but a big guy holding a bowl of soup. “Scarlet told me you woke up. How are you feeling kid?” The big guy said as he gave the soup to Nate and sat down on the tea table besides his bed.
“I’m alive and kicking. Thanks for saving me.” Nate said with a smile and drank the hot soup while blowing air to cool it down.
“About that. I’ll be blunt kid. We’re mercenaries and we don’t randomly save some people. So 500 for bringing you from that forest to this inn and adding another 500 for your treatment you now owe us 1000 Royal Gold. Don’t worry we can even send a messenger but that we’ll come with additional charges” The big man said while grinning a he rub his hands in excitement.
“1000 ROYAL GOLD! Why don’t you just sell me as a slave and be done with it. Beside where will I bring that much money from. I don’t have it.” Nate spat out the soup after hearing the big guy.
“Don’t act like a fool kid. I’m a mage myself and I can detect the mana in you. You’re probably from some major magic family from the capital, aren’t you? Its just not much to high level mage.” The man argued back.
“So you would have left me to die, if I was not a mage?” Nate questioned
“More or less. We are mercenary we don’t do a job without involving money in it.” The man didn’t deny.
“Sorry to burst your bubbles but I’m not from magic family. At least not anymore. Since you already know i’m a mage, how about i work for you until I pay you back?” Nate said as he focused his attention back on the soup. He was orphan again and he didn’t really want to go back to the house given by the principal so he decided to work with the mercenary. He could learn a thing or two about magic since the man was a mage as well.
The was disappointed after hearing Nate but only let out a sigh. He saw the boy was a mage when he first found him so he decided to help the kid in hopes of get extra money but it looks like he wouldn’t be getting his pocket change after all. But getting a free worker wouldn’t be bad after all especially after he lost few men during his previous work.
“If that’s what your want then so be it. I was going to recruit some men either way since we lost too many on the previous job. I hope you don’t regret what you got your self into kid” The man stood up and left the room.
