Harry Potter: A Fan Fiction - Volume 1 Chapter 30 Pots
Viktor opened his eyes fully refreshed after an hour of sleep courtesy of a sleep potion he developed. He quickly freshened up and wore his jogging attire. He lifted up his hands a little and found it a bit light, he decided to add another two hundred fifty grams to his arm and leg weights. It’s now set at seven hundred kilos and two fifty grams each and so he had to especially design his weights for it to not affect his surroundings. Now satisfied by the resistance he is feeling in his limbs, he began to run out of the dorm room. It would take another week before he would adapt to the change and adjust the weights again.
The darkness of the early morning sky couldn’t affect him as much as it does to a normal person because he can simply transfigure his eyes into something with night vision like that of a wampus cat or an owl’s, who requires very little amount of light to facilitate sight. The variety to choose from is very vast as he had already mapped the anatomy of most magical beasts and while some are very simple in structure, some can be very puzzling even to Viktor as he had spent a lot of time to figure out how they worked.
He simply would run around, jump, skip, hop, and just about anything to make himself feel tired. Once he feels fatigued enough, he would take out a vial of blue potion that almost instantly recovers stamina and removes the built up of fatigue from his muscles. His exercise continued until the crack of dawn when many students are already coming out of their dorms for their daily routine and he had downed five vials of restorative potion.
He went back to his dorm, took a bath, donned his brown-red uniform and left to get his breakfast. Students greeted him as he went past them but he simply just nodded at them while praising the first batch of his orphanage for a job well done.
The probable downside to the increase of his bone and muscle mass is the heightened metabolism. Viktor can literally eat a whole cow with his current metabolism, although using magical ingredients can help reduce the amount he had to take in, its still bothering him a little since he still had to consume extra large portions of food.
Today is Potions and Muggle Studies day so Viktor headed for the school potion laboratory. In all honesty, wizard potioneering hasn’t been improved that much compared to other fields of studies in the past century. They use the old enchanted cauldron, cutting tools, mortar, pestle and other primitive tools. They only relied on their magic to achieve their desired effects and not much technique or proper research is taken into account, perhaps the reason why potion masters are very rare even when it is a subject that can be taken up by literally anyone as even squibs and muggles can do it, and…. guess what…. it pays a lot of galleons for becoming a potion master too. So what the hell? Its one of this world’s great mysteries if you asked Viktor.
The class was not as advanced as Viktor hoped and so he asked for an early graduation on the subject. Advanced graduation on a subject is of course allowed in Durmstrang to facilitate geniuses who are far ahead from their peers. There are two criterion for early graduation. One is to be able to concoct at least ten basic potion with passing evaluation from the assessor or make an original recipe of a basic level potion, of course this too must be confirmed by an assessor. The assessors will be composed of three individuals, one is the Potions professor Mr. Orlov, the headmistress Mrs. Medved and lastly, a senior class representative with excellent marks on the subject.
He was scheduled for evaluation on Saturday afternoon as it will not affect his other scheduled classes on that day. After making the request he decided to go to an old man’s secret laboratory.
“Minimap”
At his cue, a holo projection of a map appeared in front of him. It looked like a blueprint with indicators such as a green arrow indicating his current location, green dots indicates his marked allies, blue dots to show all the humans in the school who pose no threat and red ones for the more powerful wizards and creatures.
Walking into a corner, Viktor began to cast an incantation which opened a secret passage to an underground room inside the castle. It was Gillert Grindelwald’s old laboratory in Durmstrang one of the many he had hidden in the past as a student. This particular laboratory is very special as it contains a very rare specimen that Grindelwald used to study. As he lost access when he got expelled, it was left unattended but still most likely functioning.
The door closed as soon as he stepped inside and it became very dark so Viktor took out his wand and summoned an orb of light for illumination. The light formed a ball and flew forward like it was leading the way. Viktor followed the map which is now focused on the floor area of this laboratory.
“Accio book.”
A book in a shelf flew towards Viktor. It was an old book about ancient runes. One of the books banned by the ministry of magic from being taught to students nowadays. All the books in the laboratory disappeared in a matter of seconds and Viktor continued to walk with a leather bound journal in hand.
