Harry Potter And The Lord Of Darkness - Chapter 34
Daphne sighed as she watched students board the train one by one after saying their farewells to their parents.
Unlike them, she was alone. Her father had quickly dropped her off at kings cross before heading off to work while her mother stayed at home to take care of her sister.
She remembered what her father had told her on their way here. To stay away from muggle borns and to not provoke Malfoy. She understood that Purebloods were better than the muggle bloods and that some of her fellow wizards considered muggle borns to be of an inferior breed. However, her father told her that although this might be true, one mustn’t be ignorant of the potential muggle borns hold.
She was often told by her cousins about how eccentric her father was. A Pureblood Slytherins who did not despise the very existence of muggle borns. He was more of a mix between a muggle lover and a pureblood advocator. A pacifist, one might call him.
Which was why he told her not to gain the ire of the Malfoys. It wasn’t due to fear or lack of riches. Not at all. Her father just hated senseless violence and aggression. He would rather shoulder embarrassment than strike back.
Daphne gloomily heaved her luggage onto the train and rolled down the isles looking for a compartment. She was honestly fine with sitting anywhere, as long as she didn’t have to be with Malfoy.
She had met him durning one of the pureblood gatherings and could somewhat discern that he was an arrogant snob. Slightly handsome but bratty.
However, Daphne wasn’t as lucky as she hoped.
“Oi, Greengrass. Do you wanna sit with us? It might be safer than randomly choosing a compartment. You might find a mud blood toad hiding in one of them.”
Daphne gave Malfoy a cold look before continuing on to find a different compartment. Preferably somewhere very far from where malfoy was at.
Soon, she reached near the end of the train and found a relatively empty compartment, its only occupant being a similar aged boy with black hair. He was holding a book and looked relatively emotionless. He was very handsome and had an air to him that told her that he was no normal person. At least, he was different from other boys. A basket covered in a blanket sat next to him.
Curious, she called out to him.
“Do you mind if I sit here?” She asked.
“Mm.”
The boy, without looking up from his book, nodded his head and Daphne sat down. The silence in the compartment continued as the boy read his book while she watched him.
“You aren’t very social are you?”
The boy simply ignored her and continued to read on. Daphne gave it another try.
“Is the book that interesting? What is it about?”
“Different species of wolves.” Replied Arth without looking up.
“Do they mention werewolves in that book?”
“Page one hundred twenty six.”
Daphne widened her eyes in amazement. This boy was very interesting. “You have a good memory don’t you?”
“Perhaps.”
“Why are you so antisocial? Is talking to people that horrible?”
“Is it that hard to know when someone doesn’t want to talk?”
She knew it well, it was the same thing she felt whenever Malfoy or someone else tried to start a conversation. What a hypocrite she was.
Embarrassed and ashamed at herself, she quickly tried to distract herself by giving a pout and snatching the boy’s book, causing him to raise an eyebrow. “There we go. You finally looked at me. It’s rude to not look at someone when talking.”
“Will you give me back my book?”
“Hmmm, maybe I will? Maybe I won’t?”
The boy sighed. “Fine, you win. Let’s talk.”
She let out a giggle before lending out her hand. “Daphne Greengrass, first year. A Pureblood.”
The boy reluctantly gave her his hand. “Arthur Kingscrown, first year. Pureblood.”
