Harry Potter, Sovereign - Chapter 5
Harry got out of the bath feeling a little better, but still tired.
When Scathach served him his food, he realised how famished he was and ate almost as fast as a hungry Ron, but with better table manners. Because of that, the ladies didn’t question him, and they all ate in silence. After the meal, they separated for the night. Harry was left with Scathach, Xuanzang and Camille.
The room had 2 beds, so while Harry used one, the women could share the other bed, one standing guard while the other 2 rested. Scathach and Xuanzang would share the bed, while Camille was fine with standing guard the whole night.
In the middle of the night, Harry started to get agitated in his sleep, grabing the attention of Camille. When the magic pressure in the room suddenly rose, the other 2 in their beds straightened themselves, startled.
“What is going on?” asked Scathach.
“He is having a nightmare” answered Camille.
Harry became more agitated, muttering incomprehensible things, and Xuanzang stroked his arm and hairs, trying to soothe him without waking him up. Scathach had come near the bed, and regretted it a moment later. The items near the bed started to levitate, and before they could do anything, a magical shockwave originating from Harry’s body knocked them back. Xuanzang suffered the most since she was holding him, thrown against the wall with significant force. The only one unaffected was Camille, who was still standing vigil in her corner.
“CEDRIC!!!” Harry shouted as he suddenly straightened up, awoken by his nightmare, and breathing roughly.
It took him a few seconds to regain his bearing. Enough for Scathach and Xuanzang to recover, and for the other summoned girls to exit their room and knock on the door. Xuanzang had gone back to Harry, and was stroking his back gently. Camille opened the door for the others in the hallway. Semimaris was at the door, while VI and Caitlyn were guarding both side of the hallway.
“What happened?” asked Semimaris in a low voice. “We all felt a spike of magic in here.”
“Harry had a nightmare, and his magic reacted violently to his emotional state” answered Scathach. “I didn’t think something like that was possible. I wonder if it’s normal for magic users of this world, or if summoning all of us has somehow made his magic unstable…”
Harry noticed that his little outburst had attracted his summons, and felt bad.
“Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to trouble you in the middle of the night outside of an emergency.”
“There is no need to apologise, Master. We are here for you” answere Xuanzang.
“Thank you. As for what seems to have happened, it’s called accidental magic. It usually happen to children during stressfull situation, out of either anger or fear. It’s supposed to gradually stop after starting magical education. The last time I did accidental magic, it was because the sister of my uncle was having a nasty p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e insulting my dead parents.”
“I inflated her like a ballon, and she drifted in the air for a while, until the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad came to resolve the problem.”
When he raised his head, he saw the question in some of their gaze.
“The magical world is hidden from the non-magical one. Around 3 hundred years ago, the magical populations of the world implemented the International Statute Of Secrecy, and went into hidding from the non-magical world. Maintaining the statute is one of the highest priority of the magical governments. However, it’s possible for non-magical parents to give birth to a magical child, and since they live in the non-magical world, they threaten the statute. The AMRS job is to repair the magical damage, and erase or modify the memories of all witnesses, thus maintaining the statute.”
“Well, we’ve gone a bit off topic” said Vi in a slightly bored tone. “The thing is, this accidental magic thing isn’t really a problem, right?”
“No, it’s not.”
“Who was Cedric?” asked Semimaris.
Harry looked at her and hesitated.
“Whatever happened to him clearly bother you a great deal. It’s going to become a hinderance if you don’t deal with it. You should talk to us about it, we are here to help you after all.”
Harry looked at her long, unwilling to concede, yet knowing she was right. It had troubled him every nights since the end of the tournament, and he was getting sick of it.
And he told the girls about the world cup of the previous summer, then the Tri-Wizard tournament. It took around 40 minutes to tell what happened. It took another 20 minutes of them talking to him, for him to understand it wasn’t his fault. That he wasn’t responsible. It was something he knew, to a certain extend, but couldn’t accept in his heart. At least until that talk with his newly aquired subordinates.
“You should go back to sleep then” said Scathach. “We will probably be busy tomorrow.”
“Yeah. Goodnight everyone, I’ll see you in the morning.”
For the first time since the end of the last school term, his heart felt lighter. He went back into his bed, and quickly fell asleep. Once they were sure he was asleep, Scathach and Xuanzang did another medical scan on him. He was getting better physically, but his magic was still fluctuating. It prevented them for making a more in depth scan. They were relieved that the bounded field they placed also contained his magical outburst. The only reason Semimaris, Caitlyn and VI noticed it was because of their link to him.
In the morning, Harry woke up feeling quite refreshed and energetic. When he went to the bathroom, he noticed something he missed the day before because his mind was elsewhere. He was baffled by what he was seeing.
“What the hell is that?”
