Harry Potter – The New Dawn - Chapter 40
This creature was becoming more and more disturbing. To think that his cape was actually a shell. My great grandfather allowed me to touch it and it felt almost like silk, despite the deplorable and dirty appearance of the fabric, you could feel the great resistance it had.
As I took it more firmly, the cloth seemed to want to wrap my hand. My first reaction was to get scared to which my great grandfather laughed at me. Curiosity quickly got the better of me and I allowed it to wrap itself around my arm.
Quickly my arm was seen under a sleeve that looked like a dementor’s without being rotten. Although the idea of wearing a dementor’s cape seemed tempting to me, I quickly began to feel pain in the nerves in my arm. I removed my arm from the fabric with a swift movement, and I could see some red dots on it.
These disappeared quickly as a feeling of weakness invaded my arm. While trying to understand what had just happened, my great grandfather said to me.
”You must remember that the cloak was once part of a wraith, although it was already destroyed some of its properties remained on the fabric that it used for so long.”
He hung up the dementor’s cloak and motioned for me to follow him, we approached a door that I hadn’t noticed until now, he slowly opened the door. Behind this door, I could see a surgical table. On the sides large glass containers filled with green and yellow liquids and in each of these containers what looks like a human torso.
I could only look at this place with curiosity and when I looked closely at one of the torsos I could see that his face did not have defined features. It was like watching a child’s attempt to make a face out of clay. Some empty sockets filled with rotting meat, a mouth that was nothing more than a dark hole without teeth, empty of any organ.
Looking down the face, a half-gnawed neck could be seen where the spine protruded from the flesh. Shoulders with bones and protrusions of bones that shouldn’t be there, arms weathered like they’ve been rotting for years. But the most outstanding thing was how the spine continued long until it passed the length of what should be normal legs.
”Impressive isn’t it?” I listened to my side. This startled me since for a moment I had forgotten that I was accompanied in that room. My great grandfather when he saw my face laughed a little to himself and said to me.
”I also had the same reaction the first time I was in this place.”
No wonder he had gone through the same thing too. Seeing so closely the true appearance of a dementor was something terrible but incredible. A being so dark and at the same time so regrettable.
Quickly I returned to observe the dementor that was dissected, it was simply fascinating to see how little by little it began to imitate the human structure. While I was lost in my thoughts. My great grandfather said.
”Although the dementors here are dead, you must be very careful when encountering one. Due to the blood that runs in us, these beings have a very particular fixation on the members of our family. They will do their best to devour as much of our emotions as possible and when they can’t take it anymore, they will try to use their kiss. You must bear in mind that unlike the vast majority of magicians, dementors will not kiss you directly but will try to extract your soul from your body and then consume it.”
Hearing this I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow and remember a certain scene. The good thing was that now I knew that, unlike most people I would have more time to defend myself from these beings, the bad thing was knowing that they would rather attack me than anyone else. Sometimes the advantage comes with a disadvantage.}
I couldn’t help but sigh before saying.
”Our roots are so deep and dark. That only by looking at the sky and remembering the stars that were before us can we move on.”
