Harry Potter – The New Dawn - Chapter 44
Without realizing it, I had fallen asleep when I lost myself in my thoughts. Luckily I had secured the door and no one saw me in my true appearance. I was just getting up when I heard a knock at the door of the house. I quickly changed my appearance and prepared to deal with McGonagall.
I left the room and hurried down the stairs to arrive just in time when Stella and Maxwell opened the door. While the door was opened I could see a tall woman with dark hair that was turning gray little by little, she had a serious look and without trying to hide it, bring a long robe.
”Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Millers. I am Professor McGonagall, sorry for the delay and for having to send an owl with your son’s acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Usually one of the teachers would personally deliver the letter but there was an error and it was delayed in being sent.” She said with a serious voice.
While she was looking at us, she also added ”I know you must have a lot of questions and I will be happy to answer them.”
Maxwell immediately asked. ”What is the meaning of this? At no time did we apply our son to this school. And the owl what happens with that? Who sent such a letter? ” McGonagall immediately looked directly at Maxwell and answered him in a stern yet congenial tone.
”Your son from the moment he was born has been accepted into our school. Concerning the owl, it is the traditional way that wizards communicate. And I know what you are both thinking that it is a scam where they will only teach your son cheap tricks but I can assure you that the magic is totally real. And I’m sure Arthur knows what I mean.” She finished saying as her gaze turned to me.
Stella immediately turned to see me and with a worried tone asked me. ”What is she referring to, Arthur?”
At that I began to look at McGonagall and change my gaze towards Stella, lowering my eyes a little and pretending a nervous tone, I said.
”A couple of days ago I was in my room lying on my bed and I wanted a book from the shelf but I didn’t want to get up. I was so frustrated for wanting the book that I closed my eyes and was about to resign myself to get up but suddenly the book appeared at my side. I didn’t say anything because I thought maybe I was imagining it. Sorry if I didn’t tell you anything.”
”Oh, young Arthur apparently made use of the summing charm. Impressive I must say.” McGonagall added as she raised an eyebrow.
”Summoning charm?” Said Maxwell
”Let me show you.” Immediately McGonagall pulled out her wand and pointed at one of the chairs she said.
”Accio chair.”
The chair under terrifying speed flew towards McGonagall and when it looked like it was about to hit her it stopped. Then she took the chair and sat on it. You could see a small smile on his face when seeing the faces of Maxwell and Stella who were between terrified and surprised. I immediately pretended this surprised me and told her.
”Can I do the same?” To which she replied.
”Of course. By studying at Hogwarts you will learn this and much more.”
Then she pointed to the table in the kitchen and transformed it into a pig. The pig had a surprised and confused face. The faces of Maxwell and Stella showed a similar confusion. Maxwell, being the bravest of the 2, approached the pig that used to be a table and touched it close to the mouth by the nose. The pig responded with a sniff and wail at Maxwell’s hand which startled him.
Maxwell had a face through which many emotions passed, especially when he saw the saliva that the pig had left him. Stella hiding behind Maxwell also decided to touch the pig but after seeing what he did to Maxwell, she decided that it was best to use a spoon which the pig snatched from her and began to nibble.
”I hope this was proof enough. And I hope they allow young Arthur to be a part of our school. I know it’s hard to accept. But I hope you understand what this means. Also due to the great mistake that was made with the sending of the letter. This first year the director has authorized us to cover the expenses due to the little time that young Arthur has to decide.”
