He Awakened When I Died - Chapter 14
Shana was momentarily at a loss of words.
‘Did he just forcefully take the gift from me?’
Michael was fifteen years old, two years older than Bliss.
The jerk was old enough to know that it was not gentlemanly to steal from a lady’s arms.
Regardless of Shana’s feelings, Michael began to open the wrapped gift, which was made by Shana with great effort, as he pleased.
“Please give it back!”
Michael raised up his arm as Shana reached for the gift.
Shana tried to tiptoe, but he was taller so she couldn’t reach the gift.
“What kind of a great gift is this, that is causing you to make such a fuss?”
Getting more curious, Michael immediately checked the gift as he grinned. Soon after, his expression changed.
“Gloves?”
He swayed the gloves in front of Shana’s eyes as he pretended to sweat.
“Apparently, it’s cheap to get at the marketplace.”
He was right. Shana had asked the servant from the separate house to buy her a pair of gloves downtown.
She had no choice but to buy cheap gloves as she needed to pay for the servant’s errands with her limited budget.
“Please give it back.”
Shana spoke more clearly once again. Her amber eyes glaring at Michael were quite fierce, but he paid them no attention.
“Aha. You’ve cast a spell on the gloves.”
He observed the mana covering the gloves keenly.
“What kind of magic is this?”
Shana bit her lips hard. The words, ‘You don’t need to know’ crept up onto her throat.
Michael’s expression changed as she shut her mouth obstinately. He wiped off his sly smile and hardened his face.
“Answer me, before I tear up these gloves.”
Shana closed her eyes tightly and then opened them again.
‘I really just want to hit him once.’
She would be able to hit Michael’s stomach adequately just once if she punched him with a fist.
Shana imagined giving Michael a nice punch while clenching her fist.
‘I couldn’t bring myself to do that too, but I wanted to do it so badly that I could imagine it vividly with my eyes open.’
“You don’t want to answer me?”
“I would like to let you know once again, it’s a gift for Young Master Bliss.”
“So what?”
“I cast a spell that is necessary only for him, it has nothing to do with Young Master Michael.”
Michael tilted his head slightly at her speaking rudely without an ounce of fear.
She thought he would lose his temper but instead opened his mouth with a calm voice.
“You have more guts than Bliss.”
He stared at Shana like he saw something strange.
“What high regard for him you must have, that you behave in such a frivolous manner with me?”
His voice sounded scary even though he didn’t raise it.
“How dare you stand against me when you believe in a scum who was born from another scum?”
He took a step closer to Shana. Shana tensed up.
‘He can’t touch me in this place where there are so many people.’
It would be embarrassing for him if the damn brat touched her by any chance in this situation; as there were a lot of eyes around.
Shana straightened her shoulders and faced Michael.
“You keep looking at me like that.”
Michael’s smile, that was caught on the corner of his mouth, grew even deeper.
“Keep your head up impudently.”
The moment Michael was about to reach out to grab Shana’s collar.
“Michael.”
A gentle and calm voice intervened and stopped Michael. Shana and Michael’s eyes simultaneously turned to the person who called him.
“…Brother Henry.”
Michael opened his mouth a second late. It was none other than Bliss’s first brother, Henry, who stopped them.
At the age of eighteen, he certainly radiated a much more mature ambience than Michael.
“Everyone is here to celebrate your birthday. Do not make a fuss.”
His voice was low, however his slated pupils were cold.
“I didn’t do it on purpose. All of this because of this girl… “
“Michael.”
Michael had a stinging look as if he had gotten an angry scolding, even though Henry only called his name.
“This girl– no, this guide of Bliss had dared to look down on me.”
“Bliss’ Guide?”
Henry’s eyes turned to Shana. Shana looked at him in a rigid posture.
“I’ve never seen you before. I am Henry Hope, the eldest son of the Hope family.”
“Honored to meet you. My name is Shana.”
“You seemed embarrassed because of Michael, what’s going on?”
“Brother!”
Michael called him out in false accusation, but kept his mouth shut when Henry just stole a glance at him.
Shana felt a different level of tension than when she faced Michael.
It wasn’t because Michael’s attitude of being respectful and paying attention toward his brother had followed by her.
‘Henry Hope was a bad guy who couldn’t be compared to Michael.’
If Michael was a local gangster, Henry was at the level of a mafia executive.
He acted as if he had no pity for Bliss on the outside, but he actually despised and ignored Bliss to the bones.
After Bliss’ awakening, he suffered from a terrible inferiority complex and couldn’t slaughter him.
‘A villain who conspires with Prince Fabian to strangle Bliss.’
Crown Prince Fabian was an ambiguous sub-male protagonist, who desired the female lead and could be seen as a mafia boss.
Shana knew Henry’s nature and what he would do in the future, so she naturally tried to play safe in front of him.
“It’s nothing. There was just a misunderstanding with Young Master Michael.”
“Misunderstanding…”
Henry saw the gloves in Michael’s hand.
“Is it because of this?”
He looked at Shana asking for an answer. Shana nodded her head a little.
“Michael, give it back.”
“Huh. Do you think I want this kind of stuff?”
Michael grumbled and tossed the gloves toward Shana in the end.
“Michael, you should go to father now.”
“I understand.”
Michael looked at Shana with a displeased look, but he listened faithfully to Henry.
Shana was even more suffocated when she was left alone with Henry.
‘Why aren’t you leaving?’
Feeling nervous while she rolled her eyes anxiously, Henry stopped in front of her and caught her eyes.
“Did you come to the banquet hall to find Bliss?”
“Yes.”
“You must’ve learned from this endeavor that Bliss is not present. Try not to be mistaken next time.”
“I see.”
In the end, he meant Shana or Bliss should never go there.
Gentle words yet in the end it meant that she and Bliss were not welcome there.
Henry intended to walk past Shana, but then he came to a halt.
“Have you eaten?”
He asked Shana promptly. Shana shook her head with a bewildered face.
“I presume Bliss is in a similar situation.”
Henry pointed with his eyes to the big cake and snacks on the table.
“Why don’t you take the banquet foods and share them with him if you want?”
Shana looked at him with suspicious eyes.
‘Is the person who gives food considered to be the good one…?’
Having lived in a country where ‘Have you eaten?’ is warm greetings, she was bewildered by Henry’s suggestion.
“What, you don’t like it?”
“Oh, no! Then I’ll take it with me.”
Henry immediately shot her strange look when Shana answered amiably. He fixed his eyes on Shana before turning his body around and disappeared leisurely.
‘What’s wrong with him?’
Should she have refused at least once? Shana felt a little ashamed because she thought she was going too far.
‘I was hungry, so that’s good.’
Heading to the food table, she took an empty plate, cut off two pieces of cake, and picked at the beautifully dappled and decorated desserts.
Then Shana took a fork that was almost forgotten.
“Pfft!“
Shana’s ears perked up at the sound of laughter coming from a short distance.
“Shh, be quiet. She’ll hear us.”
Even the person’s voice, who was talking, was full of laughter.
As she glanced secretly, three women who were covering their faces with luxurious fans avoided her gaze.
As she turned her head straight, there came the sound of conversation again.
“That is quite a lot of food.”
“Look at her appearance. She must be very hungry.”
“Even so. She’s not a beggar, but isn’t this enough to steal food from the banquet hall?”
As they murmured, Shana looked carefully at the plate she was holding to her surroundings.
Certainly, no one had food in that quantity on their plates, in the banquet hall, like Shana.
Shana’s face turned red with helplessness in embarrassment.
Shana’s shabbiness was even more prominent, as all the women who criticized her were beautiful and wearing expensive dresses.
“Who is it, anyway? Shouldn’t we call the guards?”
“Gosh, did you not hear? That’s Young Lord Bliss’ guide.”
“Oh, no wonder.”
Shana gnawed at her lips hard at the way the woman spoke as if it was understandable.
‘Henry Hope, you son of a b***h!’
He didn’t do Shana any favor.
He was going to treat her as a beggar and ridicule her.
Shana didn’t know that and instead just said she would take it freely.
‘That’s why Henry had that mysterious look on his face.’
Shana raised and lowered it deeply again.
‘……Haha! It was actually all of your plan, you son of a bitch. I’ve already noticed that, yeah. Do I look like a naive person who believes you are a good person if you give me food?’
‘You were embarrassed that your taunt didn’t work, weren’t you? That face was rather worth seeing.’
Shana attempted to think differently and turned her back to glare back at the women.
The women widened their eyes. However, they soon scrunched their eyes and looked straight at Shana.
What am I supposed to do even if they look at my face? Shana smiled sweetly as if saying ‘look at me.’
‘It’s enough to look at me.’
She looked at the wine glass that was held by one of the women.
Then the wine in the glass began to swirl, and it spilled out of the glass all of a sudden.
“Kyaa!”
Three women’s dresses suddenly turned into a messy scarlet color due to the sudden spillage of wine.
“Oh my god, What are we going to do!”
“What’s this!”
The three women looked distracted by their messy dress and were out of their minds.
Shana took advantage of this chance and left the banquet hall.
‘You should have been prepared if you are going to mock a wizard.’
