He Awakened When I Died - Chapter 15
Smiling contentedly, Shana looked down at the variety of mouth-watering cake slices and desserts she had brought.
‘Bliss, perhaps, is this your first time trying a birthday cake?’
She thought that he would definitely like the cakes as well, considering that he liked eating the biscuits made by her a while ago.
Thinking so, Shana felt nothing about the previous humiliating events a while ago. On the contrary, she was rather proud of herself.
She went to see Bliss right away but, when she arrived, his bedroom was still empty.
‘Where could he have gone?’
She looked for Bliss with a plate full of food in one hand and the gift packaging, that was untied, on the other hand.
Eventually, she found Bliss in the garden at the back of the separate house.
He was sitting with his back leaned against an enormous tree; just like on the day they went for outdoor practice.
The lamp he had brought illuminated the surrounding area but it didn’t completely repel the darkness.
‘Why is he out in this cold weather?’
The garden in February was naturally cold. It was the opposite of the banquet hall, which was warm and toasty.
“Young Master!”
Shana approached him, intentionally talking with a bright voice.
[You came.]
Growl.
She called Bliss but Baek Ryong was the one who answered instead.
Bliss looked up at Shana and then lowered his gaze again.
He was scratching Baek Ryong’s chin, who got on his shoulder for some reason, with his fingertips.
‘That’s why he was growling like that as if he was in a good mood.’
Even if he wasn’t too heavy, Bliss’ shoulders would definitely ache when Baek Ryong clung on his shoulder throughout the day, yet he let Baek Ryong remain there silently.
She didn’t know whether Bliss accepted him or had given up.
“What’s on your hand?” Bliss asked Shana.
“Something good.”
Shana smiled mischievously. She put up a brighter act because the calm and composed voice of Bliss bothered her.
She thought Bliss would be inwardly dejected.
He couldn’t even attend his own birthday banquet.
But Bliss unexpectedly looked calm. The sight of him stroking Baek Ryong leisurely or the calm voice, if anything, made Shana uneasy.
‘It’s like the calm before the storm.’
She knew well that Bliss would be the greatest being than anyone in the future.
Yet he looked like he could not see any light at the end of a tunnel.
Shana tried to sit next to him, but Bliss stopped her.
“The ground is cold.”
He took off his coat and laid it on the ground like last time.
“No. You must be cold. Please put it on.”
“I was suffocated by that anyway,” Bliss replied casually.
Shana had no choice but to sit on Bliss’ coat.
“Have you eaten?”
“No.”
“That’s great then. Let’s eat together.”
“Forget it.”
Bliss refused without even looking at the plate that Shana had held out to him.
She added in bewilderment. “This is delicious. It’s not the food from the separate house.”
At that remark, Bliss’ hand that was stroking Baek Ryong came to a halt. He shifted his gaze toward Shana’s occupied hands.
Two slices of cake and colorful desserts caught his eye.
“Did you bring it from the banquet hall?”
“Yes, you can take it.”
Bliss raised his head slowly and stared at Shana. His blue eyes felt strange and unfamiliar, especially today.
‘Perhaps is it because of the light’s reflection at night?’
Shana tilted her head slightly.
“Who said that?”
His speech was calm, but it felt oddly enquiring.
“The attendants there.”
“……Perhaps, did you meet my brothers?”
She had even been vague, how is it that he realized it like a ghost.
‘I guess no one really brings banquet hall food and being a big eater but me.’
So Bliss must have thought of his older brothers immediately after her ridiculous conduct.
She thought Bliss would be upset if she ever told the truth, so Shana just decided to set herself up as an idiot.
“No? I couldn’t even look at anyone because I was bringing food. But… “
Shana said as if she was embarrassed and scratched the back of her head.
“From the way people behaved, I don’t think we should bring food from the banquet hall like this. I was so ignorant that I had absolutely no idea of such manners?”
Bliss listened silently to Shana’s lies. Shana became more talkative the longer he remained silent.
“But I didn’t say anything. No, what can I do? It wasn’t even possible to return the food I had already touched.”
Shana laughed foolishly like an innocent person.
“Since I had brought it, let’s eat it together. Okay?”
“……”
“Seems like it’ll be left as a shameful memory for a long time, but I think it would be a good reminiscence if Young Master enjoyed it with me.”
She pleaded for help to Bliss just once out of embarrassment.
Bliss stared at Shana and breathed out a small sigh. He grabbed the tip of the fork pinned under the cake and pulled it out.
As soon as Bliss cut the cake with the fork with a nonchalant face, Shana exclaimed loudly.
“Wait a minute!”
“What now?”
He asked in a voice mixed with slight irritation.
Shana took stick-shaped snacks from her plate, as she pleased, at his usual irritation.
She took the end of the stick towards the lamp next to Bliss in order to ignite it.
“What are you doing?”
Bliss looked at Shana with a frown as if she was doing something outlandish.
“We don’t have candles, so we should at least, light these up.”
Shana wanted to make him feel the atmosphere of his birthday even if it was sloppy.
However, against her expectation, the flare on the stick-shaped snacks began to burn briskly.
Shana hastily put the lighted snacks on the cake.
“Make a wish in your heart and blow out the light.”
“Why do you have to?”
“That’s how you originally eat birthday cakes.”
“I’ve never heard of that before.”
“Come on, come on!”
The long snacks burned fast enough to burn the cake.
The stick-shaped snack burned in a blaze so rapidly that it burned even into the cake that was blackened afterward.
She expected the sweet snack candles would be stuck on the top of the cake but in reality, the cake burned at the stakes.
Bliss hesitated for a moment, then blew out the candles.
One fire couldn’t be blown out easily until the harsh puff of breath came from Shana’s side.
“Phew, that’s a relief.”
Bliss gazed silently at Shana who was feeling at ease. Shana turned towards Bliss anticipating his expression only to meet his impassive gaze, and became aware of the reason right away.
Trying to put out the rest of the fire quickly, she placed her hand on Bliss’ knee and put her face against him.
“Haha, did you make a wish?”
Shana smiled awkwardly, secretly detaching her hand off his lap, and leaned back her body.
“Now we can eat cake, right?”
Bliss asked with a look of obvious annoyance. Shana pulled out the charred stick-shaped snack and nodded her head.
While he put the cake in his mouth unwillingly, she took the present out of the tattered gift wrapper.
“Here’s your birthday present.”
“……Gift?”
He received the gloves that Shana handed to him with a slightly surprised look.
The gloves had already been shabby in the first place, but it was even shabbier to hand out without the wrapping paper because of Michael.
‘Why did it seem that the more I try, the more I make Bliss miserable.’
She tried to give him a warm birthday even though it was simple but on the contrary, it ended up making him even more miserable.
Shana felt uneasy but attempted to laugh.
“The gloves weren’t expensive. I don’t have any money anyway…”
Shana’s confidence faded away and her voice gradually diminished as she spoke.
Bliss stared at the gloves with an aloof look. Obviously, there was no happy reaction from him.
“Actually, I had cast a spell on the gloves, these gloves are the only ones in the world for you, Young Master.”
‘It’s a store-bought product that anybody can buy at a cheap price, but I made it special by casting magic into it.’
Shana wanted to say it with her own mouth but thought it would be really shameful.
“I don’t know if you like it…… But it’s okay if you won’t wear it! Just use it when you need to…”
“What kind of magic did you cast into it?”
“Oh, the magic that can keep something warm.”
“Keep something warm”
Bliss stared at Shana with interest as if there was a twinkle in his eyes.
“Yes. Young Master has cold hands. It will help if you put it on.”
“Ah……”
Bliss’ eyes darkened again. Somehow her present seemed to depress him.
“I’m sorry, I should have given you something better.”
“No, thank you.”
He thanked her in a belated manner as if to show politeness.
“With these gloves, I don’t have to hold your hand anymore, do I?”
“I think………..”
[It can’t be! Who gave permission for that?]
Baek Ryong, who seemed to be asleep, because he was quiet the whole time, suddenly interrupted and yelled.
“…not really. That and these gloves are completely different affairs.”
Shana altered her words awkwardly.
“I can’t always hold your hand, so please use it to warm your hands.”
Only then did Bliss, whose face had slightly relaxed, put on the gloves to his hands.
“It’s very warm. Thank you.”
He thanked her one more time and took the gloves off.
Shana was a little proud of herself. The prayer that she should’ve died turned out to be coming back alive again.
“Young Master. You shouldn’t enjoy your birthday cake just by eating like this; you have to do something fun as well. You know?”
“What does that mean?”
She smiled mischievously and scooped the cream out of the cake with her index finger instead of answering. Bliss frowned as it was coated on his cheek.
“What are you doing?”
“This is how friends celebrate their birthday. If you feel like it’s unfair, you can coat me with cream as well.”
She said while pushing her cheeks to him. Come at me, if you can. That was the vibe she was going for.
