(THE HEROIC DECLARATION TO ONESELF)
“We are but not related in blood,” Fen responds to him, still have a sturdy expression and firm voice.
“Um, can I ask you about them?” Lay pointed his index finger to the crowd, making Meng also turn and confused.
‘Hm?’ Meng could not understand what Lay’s trying to say, so he turns his gaze back to the children then asks.
“What is it?”
“Them, what are they called?” Lay asks while continue pointing his index hand to the crowd.
“He means the people who perform through the crowd that has sword and armors,” Fen made lay words clear to Meng.
“Uh, oooh, them? They’re called a knight. They guard the land and fight in the war,” Meng explains, making the two children’s eyes glow from amazement and admiration.
“For sure? Can we talk to them? We want to be them too!” Lay blurt out from excitement and joy, making Meng chuckled again.
“You two want to be a knight?” Meng ask.
“Mn!” The two children reply with a confident nod and sparkling eyes that are full of interest and determination.
‘How cute,’ Meng thought, then reply.
“I see..” Meng nod then somehow remembered something.
“Ah! Now I remember,” Meng exclaimed, making the two children flinch from surprise.
‘Perfect timing. My two brothers are searching for an apprentice,” He utters to himself excited.
“Don’t worry. When my two brothers, back I will tell them to take you two as their apprentice,” Meng mentions, but the two children only look at him with a clueless and confused expression.
“Apprentice?” Lay ask.
“Mn,” Meng answer.
“What is that?” Fen asks, curious.
“Before a person becomes knight, they must undergo a long-term training, practice, and education,” Meng explains, making the two children nod together.
‘Jeje, they’re both so cute,’ Meng thought.
The three of them continue having their conversation for almost fifteen minutes. Fen and Lay are now comfortable and use in Meng’s presence.
The two of them continue sharing their thought and journey of life, according to the question that Meng ask to them. Meng is a considerate person. He didn’t ask a profound question that would open a dark alley into these two petite and pitiful children.
He only asks things that only bring comfort and adoration into a person until his two brothers arrived back at their meeting place. When his brothers got back to them, they got shocked and amazed upon seeing their brother already had a light conversation with the two street children.
The two children even sat beside him, squatting. It’s like they have a friendly conversation, and they already close.
“Eiiiiiiii?” Albert went close to them with a shocked face then also squat down in front of them. He gazes at his brother and asks with a pout.
“A’Meng, how come they already comfortable with you? What did you do to them?” Albert asks, making Meng chuckled then release a light laugh before he replies to his junior brother.
“I didn’t do anything to them. We only talk, and I ask some questions, and they answer. That’s all,” Meng replies with a smile.
“Oy, don’t make me carry this food, give this to them already,” Yan Ying mentions, annoyed as he extends his hands that have a lunch box to his brothers, who squats along with the two children.
Albert stood up and reply.
“Sorry, A’ying, I almost forgot,”
“Mn, give those to them and wait for me to come back. We forgot to buy drinks for them, sigh,” Yan Ying mentions, making the children look at him in surprise. He saw their expression, then sneered as he blushes and leaves in place. Not hearing his two brothers laugh.
“He might look like a hard stone outside. My brother has always been a soft-hearted and considerate person,” Albert mentions.
“My name is Albert, eighteen years old,” Albert added with a gentle smile to the two children, extending his hands for a shake, but the children only look at him, full of confusion.
“Jeje, Aiya, there’s no need for a shakes hand. Give the lunch box to them already,” Meng responds to his junior brother’s words, who look disappointed and unsatisfied.
Albert Shang, Meng Jo and Yan Ying. The third prince from Alfendra kingdom, in their teenage and adult years, meets the two helpless children, gives them food, and brings them the warmth of kindness.
And from then on, a two children life becomes bright and full of delight. But difficulties in life still followed them. As a promise, Meng told his brother about the two children’s ambition, and Albert take them in as his apprentice, but it was not simple.
Their father, a king, insisted and rejected his sons plead to bring home a nameless and unbeneficial two children back into their kingdom and made them his young child apprentice.
But his younger son has a persistent personality. Sir Albert would not give up until victory takes him, and this brings a worry to his father.
After a long beg and pleading, his father accepted but with a condition. The two children must prove themselves worthy as his son knights until they turned twenty years old and would not allow causing trouble when they are under the young prince’s care, or else he would not hesitate to banish them into his kingdom or feed them into his familiar pet.
When the two children fulfill this task, he won’t interfere anymore. And would give more than what they receive from Prince Albert’s care. In short, he will support them until he died.
Albert felt so delighted upon hearing his father’s words and swore to take good care of his people with well guidance and educations. Sir Albert’s oath to never embarrass himself from many people or disappoint his father upon trusting him with these two children.
He will guide, teach, educate and instruct them well under his care. He will give what these two children have missed, and he will give all he can to support them so that someday they can be proud and become promising people standing beside him.
Until then, many years passed, and the two children who used to beg, plead and strive to survive have now become dominant, respectable, invulnerable, indestructible, and has an overwhelming aura that only those strongest can see.
The two children who once vulnerable, nameless, and don’t have power have now gained a name throughout all kingdoms. They now live a life their parent wishes for them to experience and to have.
But, they still feel incomplete and insecure because anytime, their position can be replaced and taken away from them, or either way, one of them will be put into some other task and die along with their rank.
So, the two now-adult men who suffered unfairness of the world oath to each other that no matter what happened, the person who always sacrifices will be the oldest. The youngest accept his not related brother’s suggestions because he could not believe such a thing would happen until now.
“But, I will not let him replace my duty,” Lay added with a sturdy expression.
“Lay!” Fen raises his voice at him with an anxious expression and shaky breathing caused by anger. Lay gives out a gentle smile to him then replies.
“It’s okay. I am still allowed to visit you all. Am I right, Lord Albert?” Lay asks with a smile. Other people saw his smile as gentle. But in Fen’s vision, his smile only shows bitterness and sadness.
“Of course. You are always welcome to visit our kingdom all the time,” Sir Albert reply, which made Sir Lay sigh in relief. He looks back into his childhood friend and not related brother, then smiles.
“Don’t worry, Sir Fen, you all can visit a Marquis residence at any time. You are all welcome,” Sir Aloit mentions as he tried to ease Sir Fen’s worries.
“Aiya, Sir Fen, don’t worry. Too much,” Sir Ongi mentions as he tried to comfort his not blood related sworn brother while patting his shoulder with a smile planted on his face. But Sir Fen still felt concerned and worried.
In his eyes, Lay is still that fragile and precious child from before, but he realizes that they have now become adults, and they must now decide their every path. But he’s not ready. He uses to have Lay beside him all the time. He never once got separated from him.
Their first separation from each other is this one. It made Fen uncomfortable, anxious, and feel unpleasant. His heartfelt tight and unease.
“Are you sure that we are welcome every time we visit your residence?” Sir Fen mentions, asking for assurance.
“Em,” Sir Aloit respond with a nod, making Sir Fen sigh in relief and look back at Sir Lay with a smile.
“Mn,” Sir Fen mentions with a nod and smile, giving Sir Lay permission to go and accept his duty to become Lady Vendia knight.
“Em,” Sir Lay reply with a smile and nod also then walk closer into Sir Aloit. He now stood in front of Sir Aloit, then kneeling.
“I Lay Fantra Khu will accept, his highness command to become part of the Marquis family and to serve Lady Vendia as her knight through all his life,” Sir Lay mentions full of honesty and acceptance as he kneels in front of Sir Albert.
To be continued.
