Heartless - Chapter 31
This has nothing to do with the plot

“Keith!” I heard a warm voice call out to me.
I turned to look at the direction the voice came from, my hand still gathering the binder from my locker.
“What’s up?” I asked August nonchalantly.
“Can I talk to you during lunch?”
“Why not now?” my eyes narrowed, watching him closely. His eyelids started to twitch, showing that he was nervous for something.
“Oh..um….can you go to the prom with me?” he blurted, his cheeks blushing red.
“I think you should ask me again at lunch,” I replied camly….I shouldn’t have forced him to say anything.
“Hey, I heard August asked you out to the prom,” my friend said to me when she saw me at lunch. As sad as it was, we didn’t have any of our classes together.
“The whole school knows, I’m guessing?”
“How did you know?” Faith asked, her blue eyes wide.
“You usually don’t realize something unless everyone’s talking about it,” I responded. It was true, Faith was oblivious to everything unless someone outright tells her.
“That’s not true!” Fath exclaimed.
“Then who’s George’s crush?”
“Why would you know that?”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“Because I don’t even know who he is!”
“We’ll he’s the real popular kid.”
“We have popular kids?”
“What school doesn’t?”
“Oh, I just thought they only existed in books….”
“Well now you know.”
“Oh, well then…are you going to say yes or no?” Fath asked, changing the topic to something she cared about more.
“What do you think?” I asked, curious about what she thought.
“Of course yes! I mean, he’s such a nice guy you know.”
“Then there you go,” I replied, happily.
“August! I didn’t think you were one to eavesdrop!” I said, pretending to be cross.
He rubbed his nose embarrassedly, “I didn’t mean to..”
“Sure you didn’t,” Faith replied, “now I’ll leave you two lovebirds to yourselves.”
“How can we by ourselves when we’re in the lunchroom?” I said in a joking manner.
“Just stare at his eyes and you’ll be off in your own world!” Faith said making us all chuckle.
