“You!”
“Were you expecting my brother?” His voice was sarcastic. So even though he had perched his hand in front of her, she decided to ignore and wait for Dr. Van.
But before Dr. Van could reach, he had already taken her hand in his own.
Not wanting to create a scene, Caroline stepped out, plastering a fake smile on her face because she knew that if she didn’t then Dr. Van would become suspicious.
“Lord Nubeous!” Dr. Van exclaimed and complemented him. “The arrangements look top-notch!”
“Well a ball is nothing without its participants. I am grateful that you all accepted the invitation on such a short notice and spared some time from your schedule.”
“Oh no no not at all. We were all so enthusiastic about it.”
“We were?” Caroline’s tone was sarcastic. She couldn’t understand why Dr. Van was trying to please him. He never did anything to please Dr. Brorokowitch, but why was he acting so weird in front of him.
