Heisei To Sengoku - Chapter 67 This Is Me
Feverishly Harumi tried to think up a believable lie. But why bother? Nobunaga already knew she wasn’t Nohime, so the best she could do was come clean and tell him everything. She sighted, swallowed the extra saliva and wiped off some cold sweat.
“My name is Tanaka Harumi. I’m seventeen years old and a second year high school student.” She began her story. Nobunaga gave her a questioning look, ready to ask all types of questions. Before he could Harumi continued.
“I’m not from here, I’m not even from this time. One night I want to sleep in my own bed, and the next morning I woke up in a strange room. At first I though I was dreaming. Later than I’m willing to admit I figured out that I had traveled trough time. After our wedding ceremony was over some maids took me away and gave me a letter were the real Nohime explained a bit about what was happening. She also told me to not tell anyone because they would kill me if they knew. So the past eight months I’ve tried to find a way back to my own time, to no avail. Now that the real Nohime has turned up I was happy since there was finally a break trough, but she doesn’t want to say anything.” Harumi told Nobunaga who listened quietly. In her hear Harumi went over her story again. She hadn’t told him all the details, but she mentioned all the important bits, right?
“So, where are you from?” Was Nobunaga’s first question after a while.
“I’m from Tokyo. In this time it’s called Edo. The year I left my own time was the 30th year of the Heisei period.” Harumi answered.
“How far in the future is that?” Nobunaga asked.
“It’s the year 2018 in the Gregorian calendar. I don’t know exactly but around 500 years.” Nobunaga went quiet for a while before he asked his next question. “And your family?”
“I have a total of 5 siblings. Together with my parents we have a pretty large family.” Harumi smiled thinking about her parents, brothers and sisters.
“Really? That’s actually kind of a small family…” Nobunaga said.
“Maybe for this time, but most families have three children at most. Most couples have one child and more people choose to have no children.” Nobunaga had a lot of questions about families, especially the size of them and Harumi tried to answer them as best as possible. But she barely knew how a pension and all that stuff worked, so she had no idea how she should explain it to Nobunaga.
“That actually explained a lot.” Nobunaga said after a while. He had bombarder Harumi with questions about the future, about her family and about herself.
“What does?” Harumi asked.
“I though you were a spy for the Saito clan. That was the reason for my distant behavior of the last few weeks.” Nobunaga explained.
“Why did you think I was a spy?” Harumi asked, not sure how he came to that conclusion.
“Well, you knew that there would be a fire at Honno-Ji, and you came to save me before news had reached the castle….”
“Oh that.” Harumi sighted. “Please, don’t get your head into the clouds but you’re actually a pretty big person for the history of japan and everybody has to study you in school.” Harumi explained sighting. She knew Nobunaga would love it that he was so important the history books wrote about him and he could become really annoying and obnoxious. Nobunaga had a smug look on his face while he proudly puffed out his chest. “What do they write about me?”
“I don’t know. I always hated history so I never really paid it any attention.” Harumi said bored. Nobunaga’s smug look disappeared as fast as it had come to his face, to Harumi’s liking. “I knew you would die at Honno-ji, but I didn’t remember how, so it came as quite a shock that you tried to kill yourself.” Harumi explained.
“Do you know anything else about that incident?” Nobunaga asked.
“There was something about a rebellion or something, but I don’t know who the leader was or what ever. And in the history I know you should have died that night, so everything that has happened since is also completely new for me.” Harumi said apologetic. Now that she was in the past she hated herself for not following the history lessons. If she had done that you would know so much, but instead, she was as clueless about the future as anybody else. Maybe it was better this way. Wouldn’t all that knowledge give her a way to big of a head start. Like using cheats in real life.
“So, what do you want to do?” Nobunaga asked. This question took Harumi by surprise. She had no clue how to answer it so she just stared at him in bewilderment.
“I mean, you have been searing for a way back since you came here…” Nobunaga clarified.
“Yeah, I really want to go back to my own time, to my own life. I don’t belong here.” Harumi whispered while staring at the table in front of her. Now that everything was out in the open she couldn’t hold herself back anymore. Silently she started to cry, thinking about her old life. But also because of the things she had just said. She had been pretending to be someone else and Nobunaga had given her all the luxuries she could wish for and this was how she repaid him? Of course, he had been a complete ass some of the time, but that didn’t mean he didn’t took care of her. She was sure that if she was just dumped on the streets in this era she would be death already.
“It’s okay, I understand.” Nobunaga soothed her while he hugged her.
“I lied to you, I’m not even Nohime.” Harumi cried. She felt like she hadn’t deserved this.
“So what, I married you. I promise I will help you find a way back if that is what you want.” Nobunaga said while kissing the crown if her head.
