Hellhunters Neo - Chapter 20 A Clash of Thunder & Lightning
Riku had been rushing about sky trying to find a way through the hordes of zombie-like humans. The two of them ended up being pressed into a dangerous situation of being surrounded. With Desmond’s many skills they managed to break through into a nearby building across from the central hall. As the two ran up the stairs, the horde below could be heard breaking their way inside.
“The hell is with these things? they can manipulate their heads into a spear-like weapon but one strike to their brain or spinal cord and they break down? I mean come on are humans that weak that even augmented zombies break easily. Fuck why couldn’t I be born a half demon like you,” said Desmond rushing up the stairs behind Riku?
Desmond was silently cursing himself because if he wasn’t here with Riku the poor guy could have easily outrun them. Riku’s dedication to his friends made him stay with him regardless of his speed. Desmond knew that if he had mastered all of his Domain Arts he would have been better help. Unfortunately, as a child, he was so focused on having strength that he only learned human demon and dragon. The idea of being a god always plagued his mind as this domain was the pinnacle of their domain arts. The thought of the tiger domain always made him think of a kitten. How sharp could the claws of a cat be? Those two thoughts held him off from training into those domains.
Domain Arts were transferring energy from the different realms of energy. At least that’s how the trainers taught the children of the hunt. In desmond’s clan of humans, they learned that they could manipulate the layers of domains to use these arts. In reality, they learned how to manipulate the different traits of each species that existed.
Riku was the first to burst through the rooftop entrance as the sound of something smacking against the ground. He looked over to see his friend and mentor with a bullet sized hole burned through his forehead. He looked towards the direction of where Edin was thrown. His eyes slowly moved up the building looking for an open window to see the very top. There was Saku standing at a broken window looking right back at him. This whole time the one place they were avoiding was where he was.
Riku’s mind raced back to their friend who had been eaten by the horde. Then to the fact that Edin laid there on the ground dead. The world going dark all of this seemed to stem from Saku. While Riku was normally calm and rational at most of the time. This was all too much for his frail mind, his brother had run away from his duty. His mentor laid dead and the girl who seemed to be the closest he came to a girlfriend was now dead. All because he wanted to chase down his idiot brother. All of this rage was building up inside Riku that he couldn’t just sit back and let his brother act out like this. All he could hear in the back of his head was the orders to kill the traitor. Right at that moment, those words seemed to be the best response to the current situation.
Riku’s energy welled up to the point of affecting the storm around them. The lightning was silent but the roar of the thunder made even the zombies freeze. It showed rage that made a hurricane seem tame. Nature was reacting to the magical energy Riku that was letting off, much like it did to Saku. It was no surprise that a storm would brew from Saku’s magical energy but not even Desmond had felt this pressure from Riku before.
Desmond rushed up the last bit of stairs to see Riku launch off the roof towards the figure high up in the central hall. He looked down to see Edin’s limp body laying on the ground. His head quickly jerked back up realizing that the figure in the window was Saku. He wanted to react but the moment he went to move the growling sounds of the zombies drew him back. He quickly slammed the door shut pressing his body against the door. He could only hope the door would last.
As Desmond blocked the door with his body, Riku was already towards the penthouse of the central hall. Saku jumped out the window avoiding the explosive force of Riku’s sound magic. The central hall exploded as Riku collided with the empty penthouse. The entire top floor was now rubble and rain.
Saku landed on a roof of a nearby building giving a whistle at the show of power. He knew that the force behind that attack normally would only leave a bruise, but with his current injury, he wasn’t taking chances though. Saku lifted his hand before giving a signal towards the sky. The Lightning responded to his action sending down a burst of lightning towards the open penthouse. The lightning fired all the way down the center of the building causing it to explode outwards.
Riku managed to dodge the initial blast but the explosive force launched him up with the rubble. He could feel parts of rock nearly hit him but his reaction and focus were on a whole new level at the moment. He managed to push away the rubble inches from his body with pulses of sound. He felt a large part of rubble touch the base of his feet causing him to push forwards bounding of chuck after chunk. The parts he pushed off of firing off in different directions dealing damage to the city. He landed a few buildings away from Saku’s.
The two of them stared at one another as the rain pelted down still. A flash of lightning was like the ringing of the bell. As if their first two attacks were simply the press conference to a title weight fight. The flash of light passed but the two were nowhere to be found. The sound of blades clashing rang out all across the city. The window’s near the sound shattered as the pressure of their magical energy was too much.
The sight of the two of them suspended in air glaring at one another. This sight was so short that Desmond was only able to catch a few with his own eyes. Though the fact of the matter was their clashes were happening at least 10 to 15 times a second. The two were moving between the lines of time that the only way for time to catch up was them clashing. After a few more seconds of this type of combat before both could be seen again.
Saku was huffing and leaning against his sword that was stabbed into the roof they were standing on. Riku was actually worse off in this matter. He had cuts that were dripping blood as he was down on one knee. He was breathing heavily as the rain was washing away the blood only to cause more to ooze out. The battle seemed to have tipped more towards Saku’s favor the more they fought even with his injuries.
Desmond was about to go assist Riku when the door banging grew more aggressive. The zombies were slamming their entire weight against the door. No matter how strong the walls and doors were even Desmond knew this would not hold out much longer. He rolled ideas inside his head til a burst of fire exploded on the ground before him.
