Hellhunters Neo - Chapter 21 The Child of The Phoenix
Edin was slowly walking towards Saku with a solemn look in his eyes. He never thought it would end up he would have to fight his own student. He spent many of his good years’ training and teaching the young Saku. In the end, it was only fitting he was the one to take him down. Edin felt that pressure of magic in Saku’s right hand. Though it was weak the pressure was still there. He thought about reacting but something told him to just keep walking forwards. He lifted his right hand making sure not to block Saku’s hand. He wanted to see if his student really had it in him to kill him.
As that bullet like orb flew towards Edin’s face he could see the shock on Saku’s eyes. His hand was touching Saku’s face when his head jerked back. The orb drilled into his forehead causing his mind to shut off instantly. It was an instant death that caused no pain or time to even rethink his actions. He fell back onto the ground feeling his mind fading away fast.
Edin felt the darkness looming over his consciousness as he seemed to be drifting through an endless sea of dark. He wanted to just let go and finally rest when that warmth flowed over his body. The light illuminated the sea of darkness turning it to a glow of red white and yellow flames. Edin opened his eyes to see a flaming bird looking into his eyes. “I guess rest is out of the question? If its good to see you Amon,” was all he said before the bird let out a caw. Its voice rang out causing the flames of its body to fly towards Edin’s spirit. Edin could feel the flames filling him from his feet all the way to the head with a burning form of energy. Amon simply flew up into the sea of flames that still lit the area. As Amon flew out of sight Edin opened the eyes of his corporeal body.
He saw the lightning flashing through the sky as well as the two brothers standing across from each other. He felt a ping of heartache as he saw his two students fighting to their death as it seemed. His mind was brought back to his current conditions when he hears Desmond calling out to him.
“Hey, fire coat we have an issue this door won’t last much longer,” Desmond called out to Edin.
Edin slowly turned his head when he realized he currently had flames covering him. It was a coat of white and red flames that seemed to sparkle from the light of the two flames clashing. He saw Desmond pressed against the door before signaling him to move. Desmond nodded counting to three in his head before diving out of the way. Just as Desmond moved the door flew open sending the door in Desmond’s direction. Desmond grabbed the door and hid behind it as is instincts warned him.
Edin lifted a hand before pure white flames flew from his fingers tips making a cone-like shape towards the door. Shortly after those small white flames shot forwards a burst of red and orange flames shot down the cone. The further the flames flew from his hands the wider the area of effect was. The zombies coming from the door were quickly engulfed in flames. their bodies lasted only a few seconds. The flames grew so wide that they flew towards Desmond as well. Thankfully having the door was enough to protect him.
The stairs were quickly shrouded in the flames quickly clearing away the horde that had managed to make its way inside. Those at the bottom of the stairs were unable to react before the plume of flames torched their bodies. Edin stood there a moment longer before waving his hand causing the flames to break off before dying out seconds after. “Organic flames,” was all he said before turning to look back at Riku and Saku who had started fighting again.
“Organic flame” is a specialized form of flames, these flames are extremely hot towards organic material but things like stone, rock, or other non-organic materials. The zombies would have survived had they had the ability to realize what the flames targeted. While there were parts of the body covered in metallic cysts it wasn’t enough to protect all of their organic body parts. Because of this, it cleared out the horde with ease without damaging the structure of the building.
Edin was moving his head quickly as if following the combat but he was only able to see a bit more the Desmond. It wasn’t until he saw Riku go flying into the ground creating a crater-like impact. Saku landing on the street only a few feet away. Riku’s body was releasing a massive amount of energy that slowly faded in and out of reality. As the energy grew stronger a golden light began to envelop his body. Edin instantly knew what was happening that he rushed over to Desmond.
“Go get the ship and pull away as far as possible. This city is going to be destroyed and if you’re on it when it does you will too,” said Edin before his flame coat opened up like wings. They started flapping lifting him up into the are before giving Desmond a nod.
As Edin flew towards the edge of the city he could feel the looming dark energy of Saku growing more and more causing him to pause in the air. He slowly thought about the outcome if both attacks collided in the city as it was.
Riku’s and Saku’s attack were two opposite sides of the magical spectrum. Riku’s was the elemental magic called chaos and Saku’s the magic of Oblivion. Normally these two attacks clashing would simply end up with an explosion that could wipe the both of them out. The only difference was that on Sky City as it was, that explosion would be greatly more devastating. Each attack takes the surrounding life force to multiply and amplify the magnitude of their attacks. Sky City had a surplus of life force floating through the air due to the energy that was flowing out the zombies. Edin just increased that by more by burning off their bodies meaning that energy joined the rest. This means their attacks could destroy more than just the city.
As the two energies grew the life force around them was burning away to increase the attacks. Their bodies covered in solid orbs floating in the air of each color. Just as the two collided the energies swirled around one another creating a white orb that was growing and taking their energies. Before the two could explode out their energies the orb drew it all in.
Edin flew towards the orb with amazing speed seeing his two students passed out nearby. He landed under the orb as the flames from his coat were being sucked into it. Edin knew this phenomenon as the white hole. A magical black hole that appeared white that drew in the life force of all kinds until it exploded. These were considered world ending events pending on how much energy it could consume. Thanks to Riku and Saku’s vast pools of life force this hole was the size of The island of Kahoolawe, the smallest Hawaiian island. Edin slowly pressed his hands against the orb as the flames protecting them disappeared instantly.
The energy was being drawn from his body that if it wasn’t for Amon’s protection he would die within seconds. His wings started flapping harder and harder regardless of the flames getting drawn in. If it wasn’t for the fact the white hole was physical this would have never been possible. He slowly started to push the white hole higher and higher away from Sky City. The higher he went the weaker his flames causing his mind to start blanking out. The first thing he realized was that he couldn’t remember his sister’s name. Before long his memories were fading as he tried to think of things to keep him going. Finally, as the Orb hit the Exosphere he realized he didn’t even remember his own name.
Edin let go of the orb falling back towards the ground as flames covered his body once more. He had just enough flames to protect his body but he had lost consciousness. His mind was empty aside from bits and pieces of memories that he clung onto. He was fighting with his own mind to try and hold onto what he could.
