Hellhunters Neo - Chapter 25 The Mission
Desmond came back from his memory as he got closer to the power plant. The stench of death was the understatement as blood guts and even organs from demons were covering almost every inch of front wall of the power plant. The smell of explosives was also pungent in the air, this meant Haru truly had come as ordered and show great care for his mission. At least that was his first thought but something about this seemed off to Desmond. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it but his instinct told him to be ready. His hand reached and pulled his bow from the bracelet. Thankfully he kept a decent supply of arrows along with it. He nocked and arrow to the string before slowly walking towards the entrance.
As Desmond slowly moved towards the door of the power plant something caught his attention. There were no claw marks to get in yet the door was ajar. Had the demons gotten inside? Did the guards run away? Most of all where was Haru?
Questions ran through his mind quickly before slowly opening the large metal door more. The guards were there on the ground but what was weird. Each one had died from a knife rather then demon claws or swords. It was as if they were blitzed the moment the door opened. Desmond slowly made his way towards the control room following the signs along the wall. Sadly this also meant following the trail of bodies.
As he entered the control room someone was furiously flipping switches and messing with keys trying to do something. The person was frantic as he was trying to do something. To Desmond’s best guess the person was trying to turn off the power without dealing a lot of damage to the system. That was if they need to turn it back on it would be possible.
In the dim glow of the screen light a small black seal was hanging from the person’s pouch that gave away who it was.
“How many times did we do training missions? Shit we even went on a few double dates with the locals. I had the odd chance of calling you a friend once all for you to be a traitor?” Said Desmond as he lifted the bow aiming at the person’s back.
“You know Des, I never really wanted you guys to get involved. The original plan was to open the gate before you idiots got involved. I knew once that was thrown out the window I had to at least cut my losses and manage this much. Saku might have been aware of my plans otherwise you wouldn’t be here.” said the man who slowly turned allowing the glow to reveal Haru.
“You don’t get to call me Des, You think that Saku wouldn’t have seen through your plan? I mean how did the hunters die so easily… Those demons were too smart to simply be led by a man taken out so easily. Unfortunately for you the real Saku showed up just in time to keep things from getting outta hand. Now Haru I am going to give you a chance to move away from the console.” said Desmond as his grip on the arrow was at its very razor like edge.
Haru simply shook his head as he flicked his wrist making a dagger appear in between his knuckles. “I can’t do that…. You think this city gets to live after all that Shindow did to them? my brothers’ blood still remain seeped into the core of this city. Letting the DRA finish them off seem to be fitting since I can’t.” Haru said.
The two reacted as a pipe fell over near by. The clatter was enough to break the thin vale that kept the two from fighting. Haru’s dagger clashed in midair into Desmond’s arrow causing the two to change directions. Desmond’s arrow hit a screen while Haru’s dagger landed just left of Desmond. Desmond quickly rolled to the side knowing how deadly those daggers were even after being thrown. He already had another arrow ready when he saw Haru.
Haru’s head was down with shadows covering his eyes. He looked as if he was regretting having to fight. It was as if this was actually hard for him. Desmond on the other hand was resolute and ready to take on the target before him. He had already let go of the idea that Haru was his friend. Not without pain in his heart but he still was unwavering in his job as a hunter.
Desmond felt himself hesitating to take a shot when he saw Haru slowly walk towards the door. His arrow tip following as each step echoed the empty room. Once Haru passed through the door Desmond noticed the power settings. Haru had increased power settings on the barrier around the power plant. It was that moment that Desmond understood. Haru had the plant rigged to explode and he was using the barrier to protect the city. His actions were against that of a normal martyr.
Desmond quickly rushed to follow Haru seeing him standing out front of the plant. His body just on the other side of the barrier. Desmond blinked as he saw Haru holding daggers in both hands. Desmond slowly put his bow away knowing that even with his tiger he would not be able to match Haru’s production of daggers. He slowly drew his spear from the bracelet in place of the bow. His eyes shifted to the tiger before rushing at Haru.
multiple after images of Desmond appeared as Haru lifted his hand. In one swing of his arms multiple daggers flew towards the images. Those dagger flew through each image as if Desmond was never where any of them were. Haru’s other hand jerked to the side blocking the tip of the spear with the broad side of his dagger. It let off a ding as the two blades connected with one another. Desmond’s used the force of the collision to spin himself around increasing the force of his kick. Haru lifted his free arm to block the kick before sliding a foot back. If he had not blocked that kick he more then likely would have gone flying back a good few feet.
The dagger that had blocked the spear slashed out clashing against the wooden shaft of the spear. The wood flexed a little before reflecting the dagger away. Just as before his other hand tossed a dagger in response to Desmond’s block. Desmond jerked his body to dodge the dagger but this time once it was a few inches behind him it would explode. Desmond jerked forwards feeling the explosive force push his body towards Haru. Haru’s leg collided with Desmond’s left side launching him towards the barrier. Desmond tumbled a few feet losing his spear that seemed to disappear.
As Desmond rolled towards the barrier a dagger flew from him. It missed Haru by flying over his head. To Haru’s surprise Desmond appeared above his head with the dagger in hand. He used the force of his tumble to spin in the air kicking at Haru’s head. Haru managed to put an arm in the way but the force knocked him down to his knees. Desmond quickly reacted by tossing the dagger towards the ground. He quickly appeared under Haru by laying on the ground kicking him high into the air.
As Haru’s body flew into the air he dropped daggers to explode hopefully throwing Desmond off. Desmond appeared above Haru as the explosions below were set off. Haru realized that during his training with Desmond he never used specific weapons. It was that moment that Haru knew he wouldn’t win this battle on simple reactive combat. He held up his dagger to block Desmond’s slash with his own. As soon as the two collided Haru’s dagger exploded launching him towards the ground. Desmond flew higher into the sky while trying to throw his dagger as Haru. Once again Haru’s exploding daggers helped with this. The second hidden dagger exploded launching Desmond’s dagger away allowing Haru to get the distance he needed.
Desmond appears by the dagger realizing to late he had been pushed away. He went to throw his dagger when he realized that there were thousands of daggers floating in the sky. As the daggers began falling towards him, his eye glowed with the god kanji. The dagger god art was nymph nimble, An art that makes the hunter like a leaf in the wind. Unpredictable but also swift and with Desmond’s abilities also deadly. He danced between the daggers using wind to push them away. His movements looked weird to even the most experienced veterans. Haru was no exception as he attempted to target Desmond. once all the daggers had landed it was one large circle around him. Shortly after Desmond’s eye turned to the Human kanji.
Just as he was about to attack Haru held up his hands in surrender. “I already accomplished my mission.” he said as the power plant exploded inside the barrier behind them.
