- Chapter 548: Those who oppose
After Allen’s group left the Spirit Paradise, the reconstruction of the Shrine began.
Since the mountain had imploded from the fight, they decided to relocate the Shrine.
‘Pon pon, pon poko pon.’
The earth spirit Ponzu struck his stomach like a drum, moving the rocks atop the mountain to rearrange them without touching the Spring of Life.
Konzu was going through a 10 meter tall pile of documents, which included the contracts of spirits heading down to the human realm.
While those two spirits worked hard, Rosen and Fabre were still asleep clinging onto the floating Sacred Tree Seed which was the size of a stability ball, pouring Divine Power into it.
‘I guess this is enough to walk around. Now, what should I do with this [Gem of Foresight]… I never imagined someone would jump to the bottom of the crater to retrieve it, pon.’
Ponzu held up the large mirror and looked at the gem on its handle. He wanted to place it somewhere where it could not be found again.
Hearing that, the Great Spirit God spoke to him with a defeated voice.
‘…Ponzu, the God of Creation Elmea ordered the destruction of the [Gem of Foresight] after the earlier incident.’
Rosen had seen the future and changed the result of the war between elves and dark elves.
As a result of that, it was best for the Gem of Foresight to no longer exist.
‘Oh right, pon?! …I’ll tie the [Mirror of Truth] to your back then, pon.’
Saying that, Ponzu went around and fastened the Mirror of Truth to the Great Spirit God.
If it was there, it would likely not be taken again.
‘Great Spirit God, I’ve continued with the selection, kon. But there’s almost 100 of them already, kon. They say they can’t forget that taste, kon.’
Konzu had gone through the list of spirits that would go to the human realm, and reported it.
‘You work fast like always, Konzu. Just keep going, regardless of their opinions.’
“Undestood, kon. But even then…”
‘What’s wrong, Konzu?’
‘But I still can’t believe it, kon. Rosen said something like that to the Great Spirit God, even if he was a Spirit God himself, kon…’
Konzu thought back to the whole incident.
‘I know, pon. Great Spirit God, did Rosen really have no remorse or apologies?’
Ponzu also joined the conversation. They could not believe what Rosen had said.
‘Yes, he didn’t. I’m rather surprised myself. I’ve lived as a Great Spirit God for a while, but this is the first time someone claimed to not have made a single mistake like that. ‘
Even he did not know how to respond when it happened. He had planned on being more lenient if Rosen apologized, but instead of that he just became more rebellious.
So the Great Spirit God had to punish him harshly for opposing the ruler of spirits.
‘So that’s why you gave them the most difficult task, kon? But that ended up being really extreme, kon… Even the First Angel Lupto ended up coming here, kon.’
‘What are you getting at, Konzu?’
‘Everything was too extreme, kon. Because you gave them such a harsh task, 3 elves became Unbound, and they even got Divine Artifacts…’
Granting a suitable reward to a trial given by a God was common knowledge.
Everyone knew that mere humans should not be able to defeat a Spirit Beast that came from Spirit Gods, but Allen involved the First Angel Lupto as witness, so there was no way to skimp on the reward in the end when they actually defeated the Spirit Beast.
‘Maybe Rosen said that knowing that Allen could solve the issue…he did touch the Gem of Foresight in the past after all. Though that shouldn’t have told him the particulars of the fight. I guess it was necessary though.’
The Great Spirit God still believed that Rosen was not certain that Allen would overcome the trial, but he wanted whatever would come as a reward for opposing the Great Spirit God Easley.
Rosen had no other option, even if it could result in the elves and dark elves being destroyed.
‘That sounds plausible too, kon. I’ll just report that the [Mirror of Truth]’s power released Rosen and Fabre from the Spirit Beast then, kon.’
The Mirror of Truth was actually the Gem of Foresight. Konzu was also going to provide Lupto with a report, so he was reviewing the information with the Great Spirit God.
‘Of course, I’ve always claimed that the Mirror of Truth is the only way to turn a Spirit Beast back into a spirit. You can’t mention that it was actually my power that did that. The God of Creation Elmea’s First Angel Lupto was present there, so we have to pretend it was the mirror doing it.’
The Great Spirit God had told the God of Creation Elmea about the Mirror of Truth before.
So when Cecile raised the mirror with Lupto present, the Great Spirit God had to bring Rosen and Fabre back or his lie would be found out.
But that also let Rosen and Fabre fight alongside Allen.
‘I still don’t understand why all of that had to happen though, pon…’
‘Ponzu, Rosen knew the world was about to end, including the elves. So he risked his life.’
Rosen had touched the Gem of Foresight many thousands of years before, and he had kept trying to change the future since then.
‘I see, pon… So not even you can stop him anymore, pon.’
‘Even I’m powerless against fate. Konzu, about the report…’
‘Yes, I’m writing that Formar received your Blessing as a reward in the end, pon.’
The Great Spirit God had instructed Konzu on how to write the report, claiming that Formar only received the Great Spirit God’s Blessing after they had defeated the Spirit Beast.
‘Yes, that’s good. Lupto doesn’t know all the details of what happened, so we have to tell her.’
Lupto had arrived shortly before the final fight, so the Great Spirit God had jumped on the opportunity to tell her what happened before her arrival. He also used that opportunity to conceal the fact he was discarding a lot of contracts regarding the spirits going to the surface.
‘Huh? When did you give him the Blessing then, pon?’
Ponzu only recalled Sophie and Luck receiving the Blessing.
‘Ponzu, I’m looking forward to the new shrine.’
It seemed like they liked leaving Ponzu out of the loop.
‘Yes, leave it to me, pon! I’ll build a magnificent Shrine, pon! Pon pon!!’
Ponzu quickly went back to building the new Shrine, and the Great Spirit God looked at the two spirits floating in front of him.
‘Could it be that you let Rosen see the mirror on purpose, kon?’
Konzu still felt like it was improbable for Rosen to get so far on his own efforts.
Then the Great Spirit God also gave Formar a Blessing, so it seemed like he had been helping them the entire time.
‘Our duty as spirits is to bless the entire world… We stand neutral amongst all the ancient Gods, that’s all.’
The Great Spirit God evaded the question, instead reiterating his position.
‘I see, kon. It’d be sad to see their opposition end up meaningless though, kon.’
‘That’ll depend on fate as well. Eventually all their souls will have to return to the Spiral of Life. We’ll just have to watch how they continue trying to oppose their fate until the very end.’
The Great Spirit God Easley believed the future could not be changed, and Konzu nodded.
And it seemed like a distressing future awaited Allen and his friends.
‘Hahah.’
But then a low laugh joined the conversation.
‘Huh? What is it, Rosen?’
“Huh? He’s…sleeping, kon.”
It seemed like Rosen had laughed for a moment, but he did not respond to the Great Spirit God.
Rosen just slept, looking satisfied that he had done everything he could to change the future of elves.
