Hell’s Fate - Volume 1 Chapter 16 Light
He slowly gripped his tiny fingers around the handle of his scythe, this was the weapon which accompanied him when he killed his first person and will also be the weapon accompanying him in this fight.
“Hahahaha… I should probably be worried about this fight. I don’t know if I should give credit to my own strength or the changes in my body but I feel like I should be able to handle whatever happens”
Neil took a few steps back after picking up the weapon and opened up the screen to see if there were any changes in it and his Core Being had increased from 10 to 15 and his Fate Coins had dropped down to 24, other than that there hadn’t been any other change.
Neil knew that this could possibly be the last time he would have the chance to have such peace or it could even be his last moments in life but even so, he had decided to fight.
—
Gradually his minuscule feet shifted along the floor and towards the door, once he had approached it he gripped his scythe tightly and slowly turned the door handle trying to create the least amount of noise possible. Once the door had been slightly opened he peeked through the side to see if there was anything waiting behind it but luckily for him there was nothing there, instead it was just a long corridor that was connected straight to the door to the room he was in.
Unlike the room itself, the corridor was extremely plain in decoration and it instead looked like it had been through years of pain and was partly broken on some parts of it.
Either way, Neil decided to slowly walk through the corridor while keeping his guard up at all times, he continued walking through at a steady pace while trying not to step near the sides of the corridor which had broken apart. So far nothing had appeared yet to try and kill him but either way he kept his guard up just in case something tried to pop out and kill him while his guard was at it’s lowest.
Second by second his tension continued rising, drops of sweat began dribbling down the side of his head as he made it closer and closer towards the end, he wasn’t willing to drop his guard at all. The crusted debris on the side was crushed beneath his feet without him realising it. The remaining pieces of rock that had broken apart rolled beneath him and continued on rolling towards the door he had just stepped out of, these rocks simply continued until they reached directly in front of the door and stopped.
As Neil continued stepping on these rocks they simply continued on drifting behind him. At this point, Neil had crushed enough rock to build up a small mound of rocks which could pile up to his knees, but instead of creating smaller debris along the path they all instead drifted near the door and sat there. The moment Neil was within 5 metres of the exit a bang loud enough to instantly kill an infant due to the sound waves exploded right behind him.
“Shit!”
He quickly twisted his body around but found nothing, the door was gone. It was covered in rocks and it was as if it was sealed by these rocks that he had broken.
Approach or continue…
Whilst he was contemplating what had happened the exit behind him slowly began to close with a slow screeching sound as if someone was scratching a blackboard with long nails.
Neil had to quickly decide whether he should continue on out or go back to investigate, but he didn’t even have the time to decide as the exit was already half closed by the time he had comprehended what just happened.
So he decided to just run through the exit, it was the safest route he could take, if he went back to the blocked door he may not even be able to open and just be stuck in this hallway.
As soon as he began sprinting the exit started closing even faster, he had to push himself to just barely make it through the exit. The moment he sprinted out of the exit he was introduced to an illuminated room with white walls, ceiling and white everything, it seemed like it was an angel’s sanctuary yet it wasn’t.
He wasn’t given a chance to take a break as a streak of light came straight towards his glabella threatening to take his life.
Neil quickly lifted his scythe and place it directly in front of his head just before the light collided with his scythe pushing him backwards by about ten metres straight into a white wall.
His hand was already numb from the collision, luckily for him, no other light came flying at him.
What was that? Was it some form of spirit or magic from games?
Shaking his head Neil decided to not think about such irrelevant information as his only goal right now was to survive. However just as he stood up another streak of light came flying once again at him except this time it was from his left side as it threatened to take his left arm instead. Again he swung his scythe at it but it simply pushed him a further ten metres to the right and into a nearby rock causing him to feel mild pain for a split second.
Well, this isn’t fun, is it?
I can neither stand up nor handle these tiny lights, now that I think about it if I was hit by that blue light which killed that man I would probably have died even faster than he had, much, much faster.
This is a joke, just what is this bullshit difficulty I’m in. I may be prepared to fight but this isn’t a fight is it.
I’m just going to try and find a way to fight back then.
First of all these things came flying at me the moment I stood up, is it that they attack any living organism that reaches a certain height or absolutely anything which intrudes into that height?
To test whether it was the former or latter Neil sliced off a piece of the rock he landed on and threw it straight into the air, the moment it hit a certain height another light appeared and came flying straight at it instantly destroying it.
Hah… I should be lucky that this scythe is pretty powerful. Anyways my guess was right, it is a certain height and not just limited to living organisms. Now let’s see if more than one can appear at the same time.
This time he broke the rock into about ten pieces and clenched them tightly in his fist before throwing them all up in the air but in different directions.
The moment they hit that height limit only one appeared in the air and struck down one of the rocks before disappearing, it seemed like only one could appear at the same time because the moment it disappeared another appeared and hit the next. This pattern continued until all 10 pieces were disintegrated.
If it’s like this, then this should be easy as hell to beat.
That’s what I would like to think at least but this is impossible difficulty so the number of lights appearing will probably start appearing in larger numbers, these numbers would probably approach such high figures that it would become impossible to beat. Just like the difficulty suggested.
But if it was a difficulty which you could select then there has to be a way to beat it or else it would never have been an option in the first place.
But before his brain had the chance to come up with more bullshit he slapped himself in the face and decided to instead find a way to handle one of these lights head on without flying back ten metres each time he was hit, it would be quite disappointing if he died by falling to his death due to getting hit off an edge or something like that.
So he began practising on the light by throwing a rock in the air next to him and then try to slice apart the light before it could hit the rock. But it was much easier than said.
Because every time he tried to cut it down it would cause him to rebound and fly away again, it was much harder than he thought it would be but either way he continued practising on this one piece of light as if it were his enemy.
Every light he practised on he would fight it like a man on drugs, he was simply crazy. Any accident and he would die, but he himself never thought that he could possibly die because of a piece of light. He had a light arrogance and pride which was instinctively there after he had changed races, he himself hadn’t realised it was there. But this arrogance had placed his life into this unknown danger without realising it.
He just continued practising and tried cutting it down but it never worked. However, even if it didn’t work it didn’t mean that it wasn’t making a difference. In fact, he was now able to clearly see the light flying towards him as if it was in slow motion but he didn’t realise this and just continued practising like before.
Slowly but surely he was improving, but still, it was nowhere near enough.
