Help…My Wife is a Spy - Chapter 396
Avaleigh looked at the article about Natasha Gu. It included evidence of her contacting the paparazzi, paying for his flight from Shanghai to Hong Kong, and a photo of them meeting in a cafe after the article about Avaleigh was released. It also outlined all the possible motives that Natasha Gu had for targeting Avaleigh, including her position on ‘Let’s Go!’ and her endors.e.m.e.nt for Fengtai. Not only was she a backup for ‘Let’s Go!’ which was currently a hit in China, Natasha had also submitted an application to be the spokesperson for Fengtai – and both these positions were currently with Avaleigh.
Avaleigh’s eyes opened wide in surprise. Was it really Natasha Gu that caused this mess? They had never even met in person before!
All of a sudden, she was reminded of the conversation that she shared with Halia earlier. Was it just a coincidence that Halia had asked her about Natasha Gu?
Or…did this have something to do with her?
The reporters below the stage shook their heads with disappointment as they realized the truth. They had completely wasted their time on these baseless rumors when they could have been reporting on something else.
They were never trusting this particular paparazzi ever again; he was going straight into their blacklists.
…
Over at Trisha and Oliver’s apartment, Oliver was in the middle of a video call with his reporter friend. He poured a glass of wine and raised it at the man. “Congratulations on your trending article,” he grinned.
On the other end, Steven Zhe took a sip of his wine and laughed, “Thanks for the lead. If you didn’t tip me on this story, I wouldn’t have flown to Shanghai this morning and discovered all the things that Natasha Gu did. I thought you weren’t interested in entertainment. Why were you so interested in this particular story?”
Oliver smirked secretively, “You know me. I hate unfairness and underhanded methods…”
Steved nodded his head in agreement. He still remembered the last time that they worked together. 7-8 months ago, Oliver convinced him to go to the police with some photos that he had and he ended up becoming a suspect in a murder case. At first, he was a bit frightened. But, fortunately, the truth was revealed in the end and he actually provided crucial evidence that helped the police catch the real murderer. That case allowed him to understand why his friend was so adamant about justice and fairness. He was even rewarded for his help with exclusive permission to write an article about the incident and he became quite famous for it.
This time, he once again revealed the truth and helped someone wipe their name clean.
Now that he thought about…both cases involved Avaleigh!
It seemed, she was his lucky star.
After he got off the video call with Emerson, he did some research on Avaleigh and found the name of her agency. He had an idea. Since fate had brought them together twice to help each other, perhaps her agency would be interested in hiring him as their exclusive reporter…
…
Over in Macau, Emerson was signing some doc.u.ments at the casino when he received a phone call from Danson. He had told Danson to update him on the press conference as soon as it was over, so he was expecting this call.
He picked it up nonchalantly. “How did it go?” he asked.
Danson sounded a little embarrassed, “It went surprisingly well. But, it wasn’t because of what we had done. Someone released an article this afternoon that proved Avaleigh was being defamed on purpose and debunked the entire article from yesterday.”
Emerson raised an eyebrow with interest and picked up his phone to look for the article that Danson was talking about. “Interesting…” he said as he looked at the photos and the evidence provided.
He then swiped to the bottom and saw the name of the reporter: Steven Zhe. This name…sounded familiar. He thought for a bit and realized who he was. He was the reporter that captured photos outside of Avaleigh and Mimi’s hotel room on the night that Mimi was murdered. If he remembered correctly, this reporter was a friend of Oliver’s. All of a sudden, a network of relationsh.i.p.s appeared in his mind. Steven was a friend of Oliver’s, Oliver was Trisha’s boyfriend, Trisha was Jackson’s colleague, and Jackson…was Halia’s husband…
Emerson smiled. Was this what Halia meant by repaying their gift and showing the paparazzi not to mess with the Wus?
He was sure it was her. Who else had the skills, power, and connections to do all this in such a short amount of time? This sister-in-law was becoming more and more impressive.
“By the way, the reporter that wrote this article contacted us. He offered to be our exclusive reporter. If we ever have anything to announce, we can contact him and he will do it in a tasteful way. Also, if we need to clear any rumors, he can help us seek out the truth like what he did this time. I think it’s something that we can consider.”
Emerson nodded his head, “He seems like a trustworthy person. If he does well, we can recommend him to Marissa as well. We need more people like that in the industry.”
After a short pause, Emerson added, “Actually, I have something that I would like him to report on very soon…”
Danson held the phone in confusion as he thought about Avaleigh’s upcoming schedule. If he remembered correctly, there wasn’t anything out of the ordinary that was worth reporting on.
“What is it?” Danson asked.
Emerson smiled, “I have a ring that’s arriving in the next couple of weeks. Once it’s here, I am going to plan a grand proposal. I want him to report on it and announce it to the world. I want everyone to know that I am the luckiest man on earth.”
Danson opened his mouth in surprise. This man was certainly brave to announce something like that.
He, on the other hand, still had to keep his relationship a secret…
What a contrast!
