Help…My Wife is a Spy - Chapter 399
It took three days for the team to gather all the information that they needed. During this time, Hummingbird and Wolf kept an eye on Amun at the bar every night while Sasquatch and Orca camped near the base and tried to hack into their lab computer.
As Halia and Lotus had predicted, Amun did indeed store all his research on this computer. Orca had to get through multiple layers of encryption, but she eventually found a list of test subject numbers. At first, the numbers increased rapidly, but slowly, the numbers dwindled. Amun did not know initially that the technology did not work on everyone so he tried to apply it to whoever he could. But when he saw the results, he realized he was just wasting time and resources.
Eventually, after running some experiments, he discovered the key to the technology: it only worked on those with good memory.
Sasquatch and Orca copied all the information and took it back to the riad. After reading through all the lab notes, the four BTA agents discovered that Amun had successfully applied the brain tap technology to 10 people. He called them his ‘Super Soldiers’; a name that clearly outlined his intentions. 5 of them were still in the base, and the other 5 were sent abroad. 5-10 people didn’t sound too intimidating, after all, they had 4 BTA agents and a team of Interpol agents to back them up, but who knew what skills these ‘Super Soldiers’ had…
To be extra prepared, Halia got help from the Moroccan National Security as well and stayed in command through the entire raid.
“Snipers, take down the guards!”
“Team A, search the east side of the base. Team B, search the west. I want every single person to be arrested!”
“BTAs, go find Amun! Keep an eye out for the 5 Super Soldiers. They are likely guarding him. Team C, follow them and provide backup.”
Everyone listened to Halia and quickly took control of the base. Most of the people in the base knew some degree of martial arts, but they could not hold up against the combined forces of Interpol and the Moroccan National Security.
Hummingbird, Wolf, Sasquatch, and Orca carefully approached Amun’s living quarters. As soon as they opened the door 2 men and 3 women looked at them in surprise and launched themselves towards them. The BTAs immediately realized that these were Amun’s Super Soldiers. They were quick, nimble, and highly-skilled, plus they knew how to turn anything within reach into a weapon. The 4 BTAs struggled against them. Without any rules and regulations, who knew how many skills had been pumped into these people; they definitely lived up to their name.
But, no matter how good they were at physical combat, they eventually surrendered after a long fight when the other agents rushed in with weapons. “Hands up where we can see them!” one of the agents yelled.
As the agents dragged the Super Soldiers out, Sasquatch furrowed his brows and approached Amun. Without a warning, he raised his fist and punched the man in the face. “Lotus says hi,” he said. However, the man wiped his mouth indifferently and smirked, “Tell her, bye.” He then reached under his bed and quickly pressed a button.
The agents looked at the man in confusion. What did he mean? Wolf noticed the man’s hand and immediately looked under the bed to check what he had pressed. Underneath…there were enough explosives to take down half the base, and there was a timer with less than 5 minutes on it! Amun was self-destructing and there was not enough time to evacuate everyone. Amun knew something like this would eventually happen one day so he had been prepared for it. He didn’t care about destroying his base nor killing the people inside it, he was simply hoping that everyone would panic and he would get the chance to escape amidst the confusion.
Wolf furrowed his brows and turned to his colleagues. “It’s a bomb, and we have less than 5 minutes,” he said.
The other 3 BTAs looked at each other with frustration but tried not to act impulsively.
“You should hurry and leave. If you run straight for the gates now, you will be able to escape unharmed,” Amun chuckled.
Sasquatch glared at the man. He had never met him before, but he felt like he knew him better than anyone. This man enjoyed seeing other people in fear and pain, and he was enjoying this scene in front of him.
He couldn’t let him have his way.
Keeping a straight face, Sasquatch lifted the microphone attached to his shirt and spoke to someone he knew he could definitely rely on, “Captain, we have a bomb. It’s exploding in less than 5 minutes. Please tell us what to do.”
Even though he doubted her at first, he had been convinced by Halia’s skills and abilities after working with her in China, so he was putting his life in her hands.
Halia stood up from her chair and focused on the live footage that was being streamed to her via the cameras attached to the agents’ shirts. She knew that there wasn’t enough time to evacuate every single person in the base so she had to reduce the casualties as much as possible. “Team A, Team B, Team C, evacuate as many people as you can and wait from a safe location,” she immediately commanded.
She then said to the 4 BTAs, “BTAs keep your eyes on Amun and don’t let him escape. Sasquatch, show me the bomb!”
Sasquatch unlatched the camera from his shirt and scanned it across the bottom of the bed.
As Halia looked at the bomb, she waved Jackson over. She no longer had the knowledge from the weapons and explosives expert, but Jackson was still a weapons dealer at one stage with real knowledge. She recognized a few components and whispered to Jackson, “Can it be defused in less than 5 minutes?”
At this moment in time, the best outcome was to defuse the bomb if they could. That was the only way to ensure zero casualties. But she had to determine whether it could be done in time. If it was too risky for her agents, she was not gambling with their lives.
Jackson looked carefully. It was not a complicated bomb since it was made to explode quickly, so he nodded his head with confidence. “Yes, it can be quickly defused if we find the right wire and cut it,” he said.
With reassurance from Jackson, Halia turned on her microphone again and said, “Hummingbird, I want you to defuse that bomb…”
Hummingbird had been transferred weapons and explosives knowledge from the same expert that Halia previously worked with. If anyone was to defuse the bomb, then she could definitely do it.
