Help…My Wife is a Spy - Chapter 406
“Avaleigh is an essential member of ‘Let’s Go!’ I don’t know the details behind her departure, but I am 100% sure that she did not get kicked out. In fact, I have faith that she will return one day. From what I know, she left due to personal reasons. I hope you can respect her privacy and not make baseless assumptions. As for her relationship with Emerson Wu, I have spoken to her about him in private, and they were genuinely in love when we last spoke. Emerson Wu has no involvement with this show whatsoever, so I don’t see how he could have got her a spot on the show through connections. Avaleigh was originally signed on for a trial, and I was there during the entire trial. She got a permanent position on the show because the entire cast and crew agreed that she was well-suited. I’m sure her fans can vouch for that,” Herbert Fang said confidently. He was an authoritative figure in variety shows and was well known for his high EQ and well-loved personality.
The reporters scribbled down some notes and looked at each other. Herbert Fang would never lie. But…they still didn’t know why Avaleigh left.
“In that case, will Avaleigh be replaced? We heard that Natasha Gu is her substitute,” another reporter asked.
Herbert furrowed his brows when he heard the woman’s name. Natasha Gu was recently linked to the reporter that had been slandering Avaleigh. From what he saw, that woman did not look like she had good intentions and she seemed to be deliberately targeting Avaleigh, but he had no proof.
“That is a decision for the director to make. But I need to clarify that I do not condone bullying and the use of underhanded methods. If I am forced to work with someone with bad intentions, I would rather break my contract and quit,” he said suggestively.
In other words, he was warning the director not to make a reckless decision and hire Natasha Gu without investigating her properly. At the same time, he was highlighting his integrity and reiterating that he worked with Avaleigh because she was a good person.
The reporters turned away and sighed. What exactly was the truth?
…
Back at the hospital, a nurse walked into Avaleigh’s hospital room to check her vital signs. First, she checked her temperature, then her blood pressure, and finally her breathing and heart rate. This nurse had been taking care of her since the previous day and her name was June.
“The doctor will be around to see you later today. He will explain how your surgery went and the next steps you will have to take. For moral support, we suggest that you have someone by your side during the doctor’s visit. Is there someone you would like us to call?” Nurse June asked attentively.
Avaleigh looked out the window in deep thought and shook her head without saying a word. She had not said a word since she came out of surgery.
The nurse looked at Avaleigh with concern. Although she arrived at the ward past visiting hours yesterday, she expected to see some visitors today, but Avaleigh’s room was still completely empty and she looked really sad. Of course, she recognized Avaleigh and knew who she was. She also saw the news and heard all the rumors that were going around. Did Avaleigh really break up with Emerson Wu? Everyone thought Avaleigh was kicked off her show and Emerson Wu broke up with her because she was a gold digger. But, from Nurse June’s point of view, it seemed like Avaleigh had left the show because she was sick and Emerson Wu broke up with her because of her condition. After all, cancer was a scary thing to deal with. Not everyone could handle it.
Nurse June frowned and sighed. “Well, if you need anything, don’t forget that you have a buzzer beside your bed. You can always press it and I’ll come to help you,” she reminded as she left the room.
As soon as she stepped outside, one of the other nurses grabbed her aside and asked nosily, “Isn’t that Avaleigh Song?”
Nurse June gestured for her to hush, “We need to respect our patient’s privacy and maintain confidentiality.”
The other nurse nodded her head and whispered, “Of course I know that. I’m just curious if the news is true. Has Emerson Wu visited? Are they still together?”
Nurse June furrowed her brows, “Men can’t be trusted. He probably ran away when he realized his toy was going to turn into a weak and fragile burden that might not be able to give him a child. It’s not the first time we’ve seen something like that… You should see how sad she looks. It’s heartbreaking…”
The other nurse shook her head in disappointment, “That’s such a pity. Poor girl…”
Just as the two nurses were discussing their new celebrity patient, some footsteps could be heard approaching the nurses’ desk. “Excuse me…” a deep male voice asked, “May I know which room Avaleigh Song is in?”
Nurse June turned around with curiosity. Avaleigh Song? Was someone finally here to visit her?
Nurse June glanced up and her eyes fell upon the face of a young handsome man. She picked up a logbook nervously and said, “Can you please sign in first? Just leave your name, the time, and your signature. When you leave, don’t forget to sign out.”
Nurse June watched as the young man placed some bags on the floor and picked up a pen. He was so handsome that she couldn’t help but feel a little fl.u.s.tered. Was he a relative of Avaleigh Song? Did they both inherit their family’s good-looking genes? But, as the man’s pen fell on the book, the nurse watched as he wrote the name ‘Emerson Wu’ neatly in the first column. She immediately looked at the other nurse and her eyes opened wide in surprise. “You’re Emerson Wu?” she blurted.
Emerson kept a low profile and barely appeared on the news so the nurse didn’t actually know how he looked.
Emerson looked at the nurse and nodded his head.
“You’re here to see…Avaleigh? Your…girlfriend?” Nurse June continued to ask in surprise.
Emerson leaned over and picked up his bags. He then shook his head, “No…”
Nurse June frowned in confusion.
Emerson saw the nurse’s confusion and smiled. “I’m here to see my fiancee…” he corrected.
He then walked into Avaleigh’s room as the nurses looked at him with admiration.
“I was wrong,” Nurse June smiled. “Now, that’s what you call a man!”
