Help…My Wife is a Spy - Chapter 412
After Avaleigh’s article was released, there was a mix of emotions. Her friends and family were proud, her fans were heartbroken, and the media was strewn with guilt. Some reporters began to reflect on their actions and some publications even revised their procedures after they realized they had been led too far down the wrong path. If they had been a little more sensitive, thorough, and patient, like Steven Zhe, they would have been rewarded with the truth and a clear conscience.
The media weren’t the only ones that felt guilty.
At this time, a young woman read through Avaleigh’s article and suddenly felt so guilty that, for the first time in her life, she actually hated herself. She looked at herself in the mirror and frowned. The person looking back had changed so much. When she first entered the entertainment industry, she was a kind and innocent person chasing her dreams. But without noticing it, she had slowly been transformed into a b*tch just to survive. “What have I been doing?” she asked herself. “I even hired a reporter to harass her.”
All along, she thought Avaleigh used her connections to steal her jobs away from her. But Natasha Gu realized, at that moment, that she had scripted an entire story in her mind that was completely different from the truth.
Realizing this, she grabbed a cotton pad, poured on some makeup remover, and started removing the layers of makeup that were on her face. She had been hiding under this makeup like a mask, but even she hadn’t noticed until now that she had turned into a different person. This wasn’t her. She wasn’t a nasty person that blamed others because she was jealous. She was better than that!
After she removed all her makeup, she applied a light layer of powder, a bit of lip gloss, and walked out the door.
She had heard that the Wus were holding a one-month celebration for their new granddaughter and she happened to be in Hong Kong for an event, so she took it as an opportunity to set things straight. If she had to guess, she was sure Avaleigh would be at the Wu Family mansion for the celebration, so she got the address from the paparazzi she had been working with and started driving there. Everyone in the media knew where the Wus lived, but getting into the private estate was a different story. However, Natasha was willing to try. Redemption had never been easy.
When she arrived at the gate of the estate, the security guard looked into her car and saw her. He knew who she was; she was a famous model that he had seen on television before. But, he also knew that she did not live in the estate. What was she doing there?
“Hi Miss Gu, may I ask if you are here to see someone?”
Natasha bit her lower lip and replied, “I’m here to attend the Wu Family’s party.”
The security guard quickly pulled out a list and ran his eyes down it. “I’m sorry, but your name isn’t on the invite list. If you want, I can call the Wus to confirm,” he said awkwardly.
Natasha sighed and nodded her head. She had no other choice, but she had a feeling that Avaleigh wouldn’t want to see her.
“Speak to Emerson Wu. Let him know that Natasha Gu is here to congratulate him and his fiancee on their engagement, as well as his brother on becoming a father,” she instructed.
The security guard immediately did as told. As Natasha watched him return to his little booth office, she was ready to turn the car around and go home. Why would Avaleigh and Emerson agree to see her after all she had done?
But, to her surprise, the guard soon returned and opened the gate. “Mr. Wu and Miss Song are waiting for you,” he said with a friendly smile.
Natasha’s heart almost jumped out of her chest in shock. They actually agreed to see her?!
Natasha’s car entered the estate and drove down a neatly paved road lined with perfectly manicured shrubs. Clearly, this was not a place for the average person. Following her GPS, she soon arrived in front of a massive mansion that overlooked the city of Hong Kong. This was literally a million-dollar view. No, to be exact, it was several tens of millions. Only the most prestigious and affluent families lived here, and the ones with unobstructed views, were the richest of the rich.
As Natasha stopped her car and stepped out, she noticed the front door open and a couple walking out. Emerson Wu had always been famous for his handsome looks, but this was the first time that Natasha saw him properly. She had worked with models from all around the world and seen many handsome men, but she had to admit that Emerson Wu was extremely good-looking. But even though that man was really eye-catching, she quickly found her eyes drawn to the woman behind him.
She had lost a bit of weight, she was pale, and her head was bald, but she had an air of confidence that made her look as beautiful as ever.
Natasha and Avaleigh were the same age, so Natasha couldn’t help but feel like she could relate. If she was in Avaleigh’s position, she would not be able to stay confident and positive. When it came to a woman’s appearance, hair was an extremely important factor. Without their hair, every little flaw on their face would be exposed to the world. Some women hid their foreheads with bangs, some hid their round faces with long hair on the sides, some tried to look more western with blond hair, but Avaleigh couldn’t hide a thing even if she wanted to.
Natasha finally felt defeated at that moment. This was why Avaleigh was more successful than her. Her confidence was no joke and she was glowing like a star even in this state. A genuine smile appeared on her face and she bowed her body forward as Avaleigh approached. “Avaleigh, I’m here to apologize for all the pain I caused you. I have to admit that I completely misunderstood you.”
Avaleigh quickly went to help her stand back up. “It’s fine. In the scheme of things, it was nothing…”
Natasha opened her eyes wide in surprise.
Did she forgive her just like that?
