Help…My Wife is a Spy - Chapter 418
Hidden amongst the guests, Hummingbird and Orca looked at the bride and gasped. Who knew that their captain was this beautiful in real life.
Hummingbird was especially surprised. “Is this the legendary couple that you once mentioned?” she asked with admiration. Ever since the night that Orca mentioned a couple that had met while on mission and was now married with a child, the solitary Hummingbird had begun to imagine the possibilities of sharing her life with another person.
But, it wasn’t just anyone. In particular, a handsome Italian man often appeared in her dreams and the scene of their last goodbye often played over in her mind. This man was Wolf. What would have happened if she had gathered her courage that night and kissed him? Would things be any different right now? Would they be as happy as the couple that was currently getting married?
“Are we the only BTAs that have been called back to attend this wedding?” Hummingbird couldn’t help but ask Trisha who was standing beside them.
Trisha nodded her head. “Sasquatch is still in Tibet with Lotus and Wolf is still waiting to raid the drug cartel in Medellin. I called you girls back because you’re the only ones that have completed your missions so far.”
Hummingbird nodded but there was slight disappointment in her eyes.
“Why did you ask? Were you hoping to see someone?” Trisha probed with suspicion when she saw the woman’s chirpy expression sink.
Hummingbird immediately shook her head, “I simply thought the team would be reunited again for this special occasion.” She then turned her focus back to the bride while a slight smirk appeared on Trisha’s face.
Standing on the red carpet that ran down the center of the ballroom, Halia took one careful step at a time as she carried her daughter in her arms. Usually, a father accompanied a bride down the aisle and handed his daughter to his new son-in-law, but Father Feng had already done that on the day that they signed their marriage papers, so this time, he handed his daughter to his granddaughter instead. The mother and daughter were beautiful like a princess and a queen inside a castle.
In front of them, Pumpkin led the way as he grabbed the pastel pink rose petals from the basket in his hands and threw them in the air. Usually, the flower girl did this, but Laurie was currently in her mother’s arms, so he took over the responsibility. Nothing about this wedding was conventional anyway.
The ballroom was massive and the aisle was a lot longer than Halia could believe. As she glanced at the people on the sides, she was surprised by the amount of guests that were there. Did she and Jackson actually know this many people? But, then again, Jackson owned one, no two, of the biggest casinos in Macau, and Halia owned one of the biggest baijiu breweries in China. Moreover, their fathers were influential businessmen with connections all over the world. Everyone wanted to attend and congratulate the union of these two prestigious families.
Halia smiled thankfully at her guests. At first, she didn’t recognize many of the faces. Clearly, acquaintances and business partners were seated further at the back of the ballroom. But as she got closer to the front, familiar faces began to come into view. First, she spotted the doctors from Peking University Hospital: Isaac, Ivan, and Vincent; three men that she had once suspected of being serial killers. And, next to them stood the head nurse, May, who had helped her during her time at the hospital. Lily wasn’t amongst them, but Halia knew, without a doubt that she was a part of the bridal party that was waiting for her at the end of the aisle.
Further down, she caught a glance of Captain Tang, Dr. Li, and Dr. Eric Ren. If not for these three men, she would not have become a BTA agent, and she would not have met Jackson. In her mind, they were like her matchmakers.
Not too far from them stood Trisha, Oliver, Sean, Alexander, and Cleo. Sean was holding Watermelon in his arms and telling the little boy to wave. Unlike Laurie, Watermelon had not started walking yet; otherwise, he would have definitely joined them on the aisle. Next to Trisha, Halia spotted two women that were also waving at her. The excitement on their faces showed that they knew her well. But she looked at them curiously and did not recognize them. With their blond hair and blue eyes, the two women looked completely out of place in the predominantly Asian setting. Were they wedding crashers? Impossible! This room was filled with agents, ranging from the SPU to Interpol, plus they were surrounded by security and reporters! This was probably the most secure place in Hong Kong and Macau!
Then, it hit her…
Agents…
“Hummingbird and Orca?” she whispered under her breath with suspicion.
The two women saw the realization in her eyes and quickly nodded their heads to confirm her suspicions. Halia’s eyes opened wide in surprise. What were they doing there? Wasn’t Hummingbird in LA and wasn’t Orca in India? She had a lot of questions for the women, but she had something much more important to do at that moment, so she glanced at Trisha who was grinning, and made a mental note to question them later as she continued down the aisle.
She turned her head to look at the other side of the aisle and noticed Danson, Marissa, and Morton. The woman that she had punched twice looked at her and winked. Halia looked into Marissa’s eyes and couldn’t help but laugh a little. Marissa once hated her and she didn’t like her much either, but after their misunderstanding with Emerson cleared, they gradually became friends. After all, Danson was Emerson’s best friend, and the three families often had dinner together. She even knew that Danson and Marissa were actually a couple and they had a son together – even though everyone thought she was his stepmother.
Finally, Halia reached the last few tables along the aisle and started to see family. As well as Aunt Lily and Father Wu, she also saw Jaclyn and Mia who had flown back from Germany to attend the wedding. The two women were beautiful and many people were surprised to see them.
Jaclyn had been studying overseas for most of her life, so many of her father’s business partners and friends hadn’t seen her for a long time. Of course, their sons hadn’t seen her for a long time either.
“Isn’t that Jaclyn Wu? Wow, she’s beautiful!”
“I heard she studied overseas. That must be her foreigner friend. She’s hot!”
“I wonder if they’re both single…”
