Heretic In The Heavens - Chapter 9
It had two years since this illness had overtaken Kewang Tian, all the while, he slipped further and further into despair. He was hurt. Felt as if he were abandoned. The only solace he had was Old Shen. Even Kewang Yun, who use to visit every day had come to visit only twice in the past half year.
Kewang Tian’s dreams never left him. They still come to visit every night. That pair of dark purple eyes. Thinking about it made his heart shiver and blood run hot.
Although he was usually in a bad mood, today was a good day. It was the annual competition of the Kewang Clan, and he would probably see Kewang Yun again.

It was mid-afternoon, and the sun shone brightly through the little window in Kewang Tian’s room. He had just got dressed, and the Old Sage Shen, was helping him to get out
.
Old Shen had kept visiting Kewang Tian constantly throughout his illness, to check up and talk to him. The others in the Clan seemed to look at him with distrust, but to Kewang Tian he was like a father. It was Old Shen that was looking after him, and he would tell him the most amazing stories of the outside world. The tales of the Vermillion Sect, the Dawn empire, how they were founded and their heroes.
The tale of the Dragon King, Fang. Who had been born into the dragon flight, as a blue dragon, the weakest of their race, but had risen to become their king. How he had battled the devouring beasts and gained approval to enter the ancestral lands, and how he had finally emerged as a true dragon, the most powerful amongst their kin!
There were stories of countless heroes and martyrs that he had been told. He also educated about the empires of the world, and even whispers of the Heavenly Way. Old Shen had told him this in the confidence though and said not to inform anyone that he had this knowledge, otherwise, he would be in trouble.

As they walked through the courtyards, and halls to the Clan’s proving grounds they were rather quiet until Old Shen posed a question.
“So, Xiao Tian, has Kewang Yun come to visit you recently?”
Hearing the name made Kewang Tian smile, but slightly grimace at the same time.
“You know full well he hasn’t Old Shen. In the past half year, he’s only come to see me twice, and even then, he didn’t stay too long.”
Sigh
Hearing the depressed voice Old Shen couldn’t help but shake his head.
“You know kid, in this world, there are few people you can ever truly be friends with and even fewer that you can rely on. Not all things work out.” The old man said trying to comfort the boy.
In reply, the only thing he could do was smile crookedly.
“Oh, well kid. On another topic, who do you think will win the ‘Martial Meet’ this time?” Old Shen quickly changed the topic.
‘That was right’, Kewang Tian suddenly though, ‘in a few months would be the Marital Meet, where all the Clans in Lotus City would send their youths to compete, it was surely going to be epic!’
A big grin on the face of Kewang Tian appeared, which made the old man smile.
“Today’s competition will surely influence who the Clan takes to the Meet. How do you think it will go?”
“Of course, it will be one of the Patriarchs sons!” Kewang Tian quickly replied. Although Kewang Yun was talented, he still shouldn’t have caught up to his senior brothers, which were at least a decade his elder.
Thinking about how strong his first cousins had made him slightly envious. In fact, it wasn’t that they were strong, it was that they had the opportunity to be strong, mostly because of their health
Seeing that his mood was going downhill again, Old Shen couldn’t help but sigh. Thinking of something a big grin appeared on his face.
“Say, Xiao Tian do you think that girl will do any good today.”
Hearing this made Kewang Tian’s ear go slightly red. “Which girl are you talking about?”
“What girl do you think I’m talking about?” Old Shen with a grin annoyingly plastered across his smug face.
“You mean that ice queen” Kewang Tian snorted. “Well, she has got some talent I suppose, but it isn’t as much as others in the Clan. I suppose that she could do all right.”
“You seem rather judgmental for a man that mutters about her in your sleep.” Old Shen teased.
As the words reached his ears, they and the rest of his face went bright red, “OLD MAN! You know that I suffer from terrors! How could I possibly talk about her in my sleep!” Kewang Tian snapped, breaking his seeming downtrodden weak appearance, into a rage induced devil.
A gleam appeared in the old man’s eyes, “That’s only when you sleep at night.” The Old Shen chuckled. “In the afternoon, after you’ve taken your tonic when you’re chewing your pillow, you never stop. ‘Oh Kewang Feng, my icy maiden. Oh, Kewang Feng where are you?’”
Kewang Tian’s face went bright purple and felt like he was going to start coughing up blood, he shook to get away from Old Shen, that was helping him walk and tried to throw a punch at him, whilst yelling “Do I not even have privacy in my own dreams!!!”
The punch was swift, ignoring his sickness, he put all his rage and fury in.
Acknowledging the effort, he put in, Old Shen could not help but look pleased, unfortunately, he wasn’t about to be hit by a child, and in a flash, he dodged.
All the force he generated, was offset, and he fell on the ground and looked rather stupid whilst he was there. Old Shen looked rather happy, “It seems, that you aren’t always crippled. But your form is terrible.”
Kewang Tian was laying on the floor, feeling livid, and driven, yet his weak body was grazed from the fall.
Old Shen picked him up, helping support him for the rest of their short journey. He looked back, at the ground, where Kewang Tian threw his punch from, the ground was shattered. He chuckled, “Fury is the key then?” he said gently so that Kewang Tian couldn’t hear.
