Hero’s Carnage - Chapter 16
‘This quest… Does this mean I can level up my skill if I complete this quest?’ Lucas was intrigued by this quest system since he has never heard of it.
Perhaps it was a system unique only to Heroes. If that was the case, then it made sense why he hasn’t heard of it, as there are only a handful of Heroes in the world, and most of them are quite secretive when it comes to their abilities.
‘But 50 times… that’s a lot…’ Lucas sighed at the number.
It would require 2,500 mana to use Devastate 50 times, and mana recovers very slowly without the help of mana potions. Unfortunately, he has a very limited supply of mana potions.
“This is going to take a while even if I focus purely on hunting green goblins, and with the dungeon being out for a while now, there won’t be as many green goblins left— if there are any left at all.”
In order to complete this quest, he will have to enter another dungeon if not multiple dungeons, and he can only fight monsters below level 10.
After pondering for a moment, Lucas decided to continue farming as many monsters as he can to stock up on money so that he could afford mana potions to make the grind less tedious.
Thus, Lucas continued to hunt hobgoblins.
After spending another day inside the dungeon, Lucas decided that was enough grinding for this dungeon and began making his way back to the outside.
On his way out, Lucas encountered someone fighting two hobgoblins at once.
This individual appeared to be struggling against these monsters.
Lucas stopped for a moment to watch the situation, but he didn’t even think about helping this individual even though there was a good chance that he might die from these monsters.
The player fighting the hobgoblins noticed Lucas, and he immediately called out to him for help.
“You there! Please help me!” He cried out loud.
However, Lucas remained standing there with a nonchalant look on his face.
In his mind, he has never received help from others, so why should he put himself in danger just to help a total stranger he doesn’t know?
Lucas then turned around and began walking away, dumbfounding the player.
However, after walking for a few meters, another figure appeared and quickly killed the hobgoblins with two precise and powerful strikes, one for each hobgoblin.
Lucas turned to look at the newcomer who helped the man, and it was a beautiful young girl with short red hair.
It was the same quiet girl who was part of William’s party with him.
“T-Thank you!” The man thanked the girl before turning to look at Lucas with a furious expression on his face.
“You fucking heartless bastard! How could you walk away from that situation?! Are you really human?!” The man reasonably cursed at Lucas.
Lucas stopped walking and turned to look at them with a cold gaze before speaking in a calm voice, “Why should I help you? Just because you are a fellow human? What kind of bullshit is that? Not everyone is benevolent in this world. You got yourself in that hole, so get out of it by yourself.”
Seeing Lucas’ pitch-black eyes and feeling his cold gaze, the man shuddered.
The red-haired girl looked at Lucas with a calm gaze before ignoring him and picking up the Mana Crystals dropped by the hobgoblin.
She then turned around and ran away.
Lucas also didn’t linger any longer and continued to make his way outside the dungeon.
Once he was outside, Lucas went straight to the nearest guild to sell all of his spoils.
“I’d like to sell these Mana Crystals.” Lucas opened his backpack that he stole from Darius and poured out all of the Mana Crystals he’d obtained from the dungeon when he arrived at the reception.
Thirty-five Mana Crystals rolled onto the desk.
The staff working behind the desk was slightly surprised to see so many medium-quality Mana Crystals at once, and since Lucas was alone, it made her wonder if she’d hunted all of these by himself.
“Thirty-five medium-quality F grade Mana Crystals… You will get 2,800 dollars.” The woman said after her calculation.
Lucas nodded, but he wasn’t done yet.
He then retrieved the yellow Mana Crystal he’d obtained from the powerful red goblin and showed it to her.
“What about this?”
The woman’s eyes widened with shock when she saw the yellow Mana Crystal, and she exclaimed in a low voice, “A rare Mana Crystal!”
“Rare Mana Crystal?” Lucas raised his eyebrows, and he asked, “What is the difference between this and the green ones?”
“You don’t know? How did you acquire this Mana Crystal then?” The woman asked him.
“I killed some red goblin,” he responded in a calm manner.
“…”
The woman was left speechless by his casual tone.
After a moment of silence, she spoke, “That red goblin you killed was an elite monster. They are exceedingly rare monsters that are also incredibly powerful and are usually many times more powerful than other monsters at a similar level— three to five times more powerful.”
“And that rare Mana Crystal in your hands right now can only be dropped by elite monsters. They contain much more mana than ordinary Mana Crystals. Furthermore, they have special properties that normal ones don’t have.”
“How much is it worth?” Lucas then asked, as this was the only thing he cared about.
“Unfortunately, despite being a rare Mana Crystal, it is still only F grade, so I can only give you 10,000 dollars for it.”
‘10,000 dollars?!’ Lucas was shocked, as he’d only expected to get a few hundred for it, not a few thousand.
“I will sell it.” He quickly came to a decision.
“Okay. Then your total will be 12,800 dollars. Please give me a moment to prepare your money.” The woman then collected his Mana Crystals and began counting his money.
