Hessian Does A Thing - Volume 1 Chapter 9 Ripped From Reddit At The End
“What are you doing?” Ereshkigal asked as she was half focused on watching a movie from the outside world.
“Trying to put runes on this suit.” Hessian replied as he continued to attempt to engrave runes on his warframe suit. To his frustration it isn’t working as he planned since for some odd reason. The runes don’t stick when written with magic and the suit can’t be carved into since it auto regenerates.
“Can’t you finish it later? It’s movie night” She whined. Lately Hessian was going through his experimental phase where he holes himself into a bas.e.m.e.nt and does magical science! However since it was movie night, the blonde goddess was forced to drag the young magician out from his hole.
It had been over half a year since Hessian took up residence in the underworld. The young 16 year old magician created an exact replica of his house in the area his landlord gave him. He could have left earlier as Alaya’s influence couldn’t reach him here but he was in no rush. He spent most of his time doing magi stuff like studying other forms of thaumaturgy and creating his own mystic codes.
The other part of the time when he was free, he would hang out with his roommate/landlord of a goddess. They would do things like play games, watch movies, talk about whatever comes to mind.
Having a diety for a friend was pretty cool and despite being a rin-face, she didn’t blow up anything remotely related to technology which was a big plus in his book.
Obviously he didn’t feel anything romantic for her both emotionally of physically due to her being a rin-face. He automatically moved her in the ‘sensei’ zone just because of her face. Plus if he remembered right from her legend then she got married at some point. He wasn’t sure as he never brought up the subject.
But he could definitely see how so many fate grand order players would consider her waifu. The sparkling face she made whenever he would show something new was so absolutely adorable to the point that he actually felt his heart skip a beat when she did it.
“I’m nearly finished, I just need to figure out how to place these runes so that the suit can regulate the mana at an even faster rate.” he replied as he found graphing it didn’t work
The Queen of Kur floated up from her bean bag and flew over to the busy magi. She began muttering in a language that he couldn’t understand but he could feel divine power through each word. Symbols, glyphs, runes and possibly words surrounded the warframe and began to cover the surface of the suit. The words would disappear but the suit would begin to emit a divine presence which startled the magi.
[Divine words are truly incredible to see up close] Onyx’s voice sounded from Hessian’s waist
“I couldn’t even understand a single thing despite seeing it from so up close” Hessian commented in wonder as he wasn’t able to see through the profundities of each symbol. This wasn’t magic, it was divine power.
Eventually the goddess stopped muttering and looked over her work with a smile.
“There, now come on.” She said as she grabbed the magician towards the flatscreen.
Hessian would remember these peaceful days for quite some time.
“Well, might aswell get this over with. Onyx!” Hessian called out
[Yes master Hessian?]
“By any chance could you teach me the other ways to move through dimensions”
[I am unable to teach you as per lord Schweinorg’s instructions. But I am allowed to inform you of the other methods you could use]
“It’ll have to do then, lay it on me” he nodded his head
[The first method would be to create a portal or gate. Different from a tear in space, a portal/gate would be stable and only close on you’re command.]
“What’s the difference between a portal and a gate?” he asked as the two seemed the same
[A portal does not need a catalyst and is simply created through pure mana. A gate on the other hand is similar to a doorway that uses something as a medium for transfer like a magic circle or even a mirror] The voice explained
“Alright, what’s the other way then?”
[The method that Lord Schweinorg uses is to phase into reality. To others it would seem like he teleports, but he simply mixes into the dimensions completely and appears wherever he wants.]
“I’m guessing that’s more difficult then the other two. Alright portals it is then”
Hessian actually already had a good idea on how to make a gate, but to be able to create a portal on the fly would be much more convenient than a gate in his opinion. He was a little afraid of blending into reality as it might cause him to become more insane than he already was. Don’t get him wrong, he absolutely knows that his mind has changed a bit since he started training in the 2nd magic. He’s been avoiding going too far out of fear of complete insanity like his master.
Hessian knows that ultimately despite being called his grandchild. Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg sees him as nothing but pure entertainment. That’s just how his mind works on a fundamental level due to the insanity that comes from using the second magic especially to his degree of mastery.
So for the next month he would spend time practicing the use of kaleidoscope even when he was hanging out with Ereshkigal since the practice was mostly all mental.
“Waaooww” the adorable sound of awe emitted from the death goddess as she floated around with enough conceptual sparkles to nearly blind her roommate/tennant
The reason for her little moment of wonder is due to Hessian’s house being currently decorated with Christmas themed stuff. Hessian went all out with the big tree, ornaments, string lights, stockings, wreaths etc.
“Looks nice right?” Hessian said as he handed her some hot chocolate
“What is all of this?” she asked as she drank the sweet drink
“Christmas although….. it’s a bit early for it but I plan on leaving soon so I wanted to spend some time with you before that” Hessian said as he heard the sound of cracking glass somewhere but couldn’t find where.
He turned back to the oddly silent goddess who’s face seemed to be obscured by the shadow of her hood as she was still holding her cup of hot chocolate. “Uhh, Eresh? You alright there?”
“…. You’re leaving so soon?” she said after a brief silence
Hessian was a little weirded out but ignored it as a quirk of a god instead
“Yah, I even got you a present” He said as he handed her a small box from under the tree
“Ah, you don’t have to worry about getting me anything. Oh and if you don’t like it. Just tell me what you want and I’ll make it work.” he said as he was afraid she wouldn’t like the gift. He could just make something else with magic.
Ereshkigal slowly opened the box with her face still obscured. Within the box was a necklace with a heart made of a black gem and a picture frame showing the two of them in a photo together showing Hessian side hugging her with a big smile while she was fl.u.s.tered and confused.
“It’s a friendship necklace and a photo to put wherever you put stuff I guess. Ah but if you’re not into that I can get you something else.” he said
Although her upper face was obscured, he could still see the small smile on her face so he felt like it was a good gift.
“I don’t know, maybe a watering can would be nice for the garden. Or even a nice dress.” The goddess began as she slowly tilted her head up which sort of unnerved the young magician because her eyes seemed incredibly empty, like she wasn’t all there.
However the biggest alarm ringing in Hessian’s head was the mental message Onyx sent him.
[Master I detect several contructs beginning to move and form around the house.]
“Or something unique like….” Her voice went completely hollow “…You’re soul entombed within one of my impenetrable cages which I will protect with euphoric devotion until the eventual heat death of the universe, perhaps?”
That was the final straw as Hessian’s fight or flight instincts kicked into gear as he quickly escaped into a portal before she finished whatever it was she was planning outside.
“WAIIITT!” was the last thing Hessian heard before he closed the portal shut.
