High School Again: The President’s Secret Lady Boss - Chapter 141
Turquoise and fuchsia, vermillion and violet, and every shade in between.
They swirled through the stars on the ceiling like a luminous sea. As the colors changed and pulsed, Marcellus felt the air return to his lungs. This wasn’t that hellhole he used to live in. He was safe, and he was home. Winter is right beside him.
He breathed deeply, feeling the tension in his body dissipate. His heart was still beating with adrenaline, but he had actually managed to avoid a panic attack.
‘That was… amazing.’
Rustling sheets caught his attention. To his side, he found his beloved stretching and groaning..
“Hmmm… Marcellus? Are you okay?” she mumbled sleepily.
Marcellus let out a shaky breath – a cross between a laugh and a sob. He turned to look at Winter with a smile, his eyes full of love and gratitude.
“Yeah,” he whispered, reaching out to her.
She snuggled closer to him and settled herself in the crook of his arm. Though she is much smaller than him, she always manages to make him feel safe.
Together, they look up at the ceiling.
“They’re really beautiful, aren’t they?” she asked softly.
He nods and hums in agreement, his eyes drifting to the girl in his arms. Gentle pinks and blues danced across her skin, the shifting colors reflected in her eyes.
“Yeah. Very beautiful,” Marcellus breathed in awe and wonder, completely transfixed by Winter.
“Right~? Now, come on. Go back to sleep.”
“I don’t feel sleepy anymore, though.”
“But you need to rest. The homecoming party is tomorrow, and you had a long day. No doubt you’ve been using that big brain of yours non-stop.”
He chuckles at that, earning a pout from her. With a smirk, he regards her playfully.
“Someone’s bossy again, I see.”
“Say what you want.”
The heat in the room is making Marcellus a little drowsy, though. He yawns discreetly while Winter pulls their blanket closer and adjusts his cover for him.
“Now, I’m being babied,” he deadpanned.
“Just stop thinking and sleep,” she chided.
Winter takes the pillow and comforter that she brought before setting them on her side. Marcellus watches her the whole time, smiling fondly.
After she’s done, she settles herself under the blanket once more and puts the light off.
Sharing a bed isn’t a new experience for them at this point. It’s nothing to be bashful and embarrassed about anymore. Their intimacy and closeness have become natural as days pass by.
“Can’t I sleep a little later?” he sighed, still wide awake despite her efforts.
“No,” she firmly said.
“But I’m only going to sleep late, anyway.”
“And if you go to bed at one, you’ll fall asleep at two.”
“But I’m bored.”
“Go to sleep.”
Groaning, he just turns lazily to lay on his back. He stares at the ceiling for the next seconds to come. That didn’t go unnoticed even though the stars have lost their lights and it’s already dark out.
“You’re not sleeping,” Winter huffed, pouting.
“I’m just thinking,” Marcellus said with a small smile.
“About what?”
“You know, I wouldn’t be able to meet you if I didn’t come with Uncle Harold at that time. It’s my first time going against my father all the way, and it’s definitely worth it.”
“You’re saying you’re glad that you rebelled?”
“Can’t deny that I was indeed in my rebellious phase back then. Did not regret it, though.”
“Well, I do hope that you have done it much earlier.”
That’s when he turns his head to the side and finds her smiling at him. Her gaze is warm and soft, and by looking at it alone, he feels like he is being caressed and comforted. Everything about her is just so precious.
“What do you mean?” he asked, puzzled by her statement.
“You could’ve done so many things during your childhood. When you’re in your teens, you’re already working too hard. Now that you’re an adult, you’re still struggling so much. I just hope that you’ve got yourself a normal childhood at the very least,” she confessed, taking him aback.
“That’s fine with me. Even though I have that kind of past, I still have a bright future – with you by my side.”
With a smitten expression, he pulls her closer to him and encases a side of her face. He dives in then, slowly enveloping her lips with his while caressing her cheek ever so tenderly. She leans in and deepens it, making him the happiest man alive all over again.
From that point onwards, they continue to make out in bed until both of them eventually fall asleep.
—
Winter woke up a couple of hours before sunrise.
At first, she only stared blankly at the wall before realizing that she was sleeping in someone’s arms. Her eyes trail down to the huge, warm hand that is lying loosely on her tummy. She then turns around slowly and finds Marcellus embracing her from behind.
‘See? You could actually fall asleep.’
Now that she’s this close to him, she can see not a single blemish marring his immaculate features. Nothing is out of place – not even his messy bed hair. She can’t help but smile as she traces his delicate profile with her eyes. He’s really one beautiful creation.
Winter lets out a sigh. She wants Marcellus to take better care of himself, though.
Whatever he’s doing now isn’t right. She needs to change his habits – even if it’s little by little.
She slowly began to sit up, but as she did, she heard a low groan. The arms around her didn’t want to budge. He was most probably fast asleep, but he seemed to be showing no intention of letting her go. She’s practically pinned there. He even snuggled into her lap and let out a whine.
‘So adorable,’ she mused to herself, grinning.
Giving in, Winter just leaned back against the headboard of the bed and began stroking his hair. She continued her ministrations with her other hand cradling his nape. Moments later, however, he suddenly began to stir.
Slowly, Marcellus used his arms to prop his upper body up. He then sleepily came face-to-face with his beloved. For some time, he only stares at her with a blank, sleepy expression. She silently looks back at him with a sweet smile before she places her hand on his face.
“Two more hours. Sleep,” she told him.
Marcellus blinked listlessly, looking like he didn’t get what Winter said.
She giggled and pulled him closer to her chest, which forced his arms to give up from under him. He then found himself leaning comfortably on her chest.
“I’m awake, I’m awake,” he yawned.
“Sleep,” she ordered, running her hand up to his forehead and holding his bangs out of his face.
“But I’m awake now.”
“You can still fall asleep.”
“But I’ve already woken up. How can I?”
“I’ve been told I have a calming voice.”
“It’s a lie.”
“Oh, now you’ve hurt my feelings.”
“I’m sorry. You do have a calming voice. It’s like an electric blanket and warm zero-fat milk.”
She giggles again, endeared. Then, she rubs his temple while her other hand does the same thing on his back. He sighs and nuzzles closer in her chest, loving the gesture.
“You need to rest more,” she said.
“You do too,” he retorted.
“Only if you sleep first.”
“That’s not fair. My fair lady is being unfair.”
“Sleep and I’ll forgive your pathetic attempt in humor.”
“Sing me a song and I’ll forget that insult to my hilarity.”
Winter smiles and rests her head on top of his. She is not confident with her voice, but it’s not like Marcellus hasn’t heard it before.
It sure wasn’t that beautiful, though. She knows. Regardless of that, she’ll still grant his wish.
Eventually, he gets to hear her lovely, melodious voice. He should’ve asked for this before. She always sounds so soothing and pleasing in his ears, and though she keeps denying it, he will forever adore it. What pleased him more was the fact that she sang him a love song in the form of a lullaby.
“I don’t know if I’m just hearing things or what, but if I was not sure that you were flirting with me before, then I’m certain that you’re hitting on me now….” he told her with the giddiest of grins, making her laugh.
“Still, that’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever had the honor of hearing. Thank you.”
Winter blushes when Marcellus grabs her hand and kisses its back.
His lips firmly yet gently press on her skin – a very affectionate gesture. He then pulls her back down into his arms and nuzzles her nose with his. It always feels like heaven whenever they’re this close to each other.
“Tonight’s the big night. So, you have to rest a lot, mister.”
“Your wish is my command, boss.”
Marcellus kisses Winter on her forehead then to her cheek and back to her nose before cuddling her again – eventually falling asleep once more.
