His Eccentric Wife - Chapter 17 You Are My Miracle
Wang Yong was feeling very anxious as he waited for the doctor to come and announce the results of the checkup. He was alone in the waiting area as Xin Qian had gone to use the restroom. Despite the encouragement from Xin Qian, he was still feeling restless and didn’t have hope that he would ever be able to walk again. He wanted to leave, didn’t want to go through the same pain again but he didn’t want to disappoint Xin Qian. She would feel bad if he left like a coward and Wang Yong is not a coward, he never was. So he tried to calm himself down and waited patiently unaware of the fact that Xin Qian was not in the restroom.
****************
“He would have recovered had it not been the poison he was intaking that only slowed down his recovery rate. That poison is the reason he was not able to feel any sensation in his legs. Continuous consumption of it would have caused complete body paralysis.” Dr Warren informed.
“So the poison was slowly pushing him towards paralysis but not death?” Xin Qian asked. She had come to meet the doctor and had lied to Wang Yong that she was going to the restroom.
The doctor nodded in positive and Xin Qian was reminded of the quote that she had read somewhere. ‘Death is easy, peaceful even. But life is difficult, more painful than death.’
Whoever was behind all this didn’t want Wang Yong to die, but to suffer a life which is more painful than death. “So what’s the result now? What do the reports say?” Xin Qian asked to which Dr Warren just smiled in response.
****************
He was shaking.
After her little meeting with Dr Warren, Xin Qian came back to join Wang Yong in the waiting area. Soon enough they were called by the doctor inside her cabin. As of they were sitting opposite Dr Warren as she typed something on her computer.
While Xin Qian knew what the outcome was gonna be but Wang Yong didn’t, which is exactly why he was shaking. Wang Yong had always been a calm and composed man, he’s like any other typical male who likes to act all strong and mighty in front of others but in reality, they are the most vulnerable ones.
He was feeling so much overwhelmed by all this, his emotions, the pain, this check-up and the wait, all because of this his anxiety was beginning to show. His hands were shaking and he just couldn’t stop it. Xin Qian took notice of this and captured a hold of both of his hands in hers. When he looked up at her she assured him with her eyes and said, “Everything is going to fine.” and that was not exactly a false statement.
Wang Yong nodded in response and closed his eyes trying his best to calm down. Xin Qian bit her lip, finding him cute in such a situation. She turned her gaze onto the doctor and asked, “So what do the reports say, doctor?”
Dr Warren clicked on the “Send” button and then turned to look at the couple in front of her. Xin Qian had contacted her about 10 days ago and had sent her Wang Yong’s reports. After studying those reports she could tell that there was some scope for Wang Yong to recover but she had her doubts which she had already relayed to Xin Qian.
That time she didn’t know that his recovery was being blocked by a poison. But now that she does, she has to keep it a secret. And keeping a secret from the patient was breaking a code. Xin Qian had requested her to hide the same from Wang Yong. Dr Warren didn’t know what was going on but she had seen the care in Xin Qian’s eyes and actions that she had for Wang Yong, which is only why, that for the first time she was hiding something from her patient.
“He’s a fool.” Dr Warren began.
Wang Yong’s eyes snapped open at that. He looked at the doctor with confusion in his eyes, “Who’s a fool?” he asked.
“The doctor who told you that your legs have lost the ability to function. Are you sure that he’s a doctor?” Dr Warren smiled and handed Wang Yong his reports.
“What do you mean?” Wang Yong asked as he tried to analyze the result of his check-up.
“Mr. Wang I have already e-mailed your reports to a physiotherapist who will be treating you for the next 30 days. Here’s her card.” Xin Qian accepted the card from Dr Warren.
“What? What is going on?” Wang Yong was confused. Though he had understood what the doctor’s words meant but he still wasn’t sure that it could be true. This had always been a dream of his that someday someone would say that he can stand, walk and run on his legs again but it always had felt like an unattainable luxury. Could all this be true?
Dr Warren smiled wide and explained to him in brief words, “Mr. Wang, I consider the doctor who told you that your legs would never function again a fool! What happened with you is that the shock of the accident and the injuries were as such that they caused a temporary paralysis-like state. Take it as your body’s own defence and recovery system.”
“During the time of your recovery, because of what you were told, you lost hope that you will be able to walk again. It’s all in your brain, your psychology. You have conditioned yourself as per the situation and had accepted your disability which in reality is not! You, Mr Wang just need to believe in the fact that you would be able to make use of your legs and the rest of the treatment is the physiotherapist’s duty. After studying your reports I can say that you’ll once again be standing on your legs after 30 days of treatment.”
“Really?” Wang Yong asked, his voice had turned husky. All the pain, the anxiousness that he had been feeling vanished in an instant.
Xin Qian felt her heart break into millions of pieces and her eyes grew misty. She was so much happy for Wang Yong that her heart pained thinking about all he had to suffer. She felt sad thinking about how his past may have been. All this time he had been living in pain of his lose which actually wasn’t their at first place. He hadn’t lost anything.
Wang Yong looked at her and mouthed the words, “Thank you.” and just like that the damn of her emotions broke and a traitorous tear trickled down her cheek. Wang Yong gently wiped that tear off her face and hugged her close making the doctor in presence blush.
****************
Wang Yong and Xin Qian thanked the doctor before finally leaving for home. The were sitting on the backseat of the car as the driver drove them back home. Both of them hadn’t spoken a word since they left the hospital. Xin Qian was had her arms around him and her head was resting on her shoulder.
“Xin Qian..” Wang Yong called her name softly.
“Hhhmm?” she raised her head to look at him. For a few seconds they kept on staring at each other, no wors could communicate the feelings that he was experiencing. So he chose to use his actions to express himself. He placed his hand under her chin and gently titled her head a bit upwards as he leaned in to capture her lips in a soul searing kiss.
Those sweet and simple lingering kisses couldn’t do justice to what he was feeling for her. Their mouths fused together in a passionate kiss. He sucked on her lips tasting her sweet fruit flavoured lip gloss and making her moan. His hands slid down her body, clutching her waist as he pulled her flush against him. The desperation of wanting to express himself turned into unbridled hunger as he bit her lower lip making her gasp.
Taking advantage of it, he swept his tongue in her mouth stealing her sanity, making her lose her senses. It felt as if he had been starved for too long, like a thirsty man in desert. She found her purchase in his hair as he coninued to assault her mouth with his kiss. He pulled her onto his lap and that sudden action introduced Xin Qian back to the reality. The realization that they weren’t alone made her pull back from the kiss, “We should slow dlown.” she said biting her lower lip.
Wang Yong looked at her with dazed eyes as he gently caressed her lower lip with his thumb, “You have brought me so much happiness that I don’t have words to describe it.” he said holding Xin Qian on his lap.
He placed his hands on her cheeks as he said, “Xin Qian, you are my miracle.” he smiled and gently pecked her lips once before gently making her slide off his lap.
