His Eccentric Wife - Chapter 5 Shes Something Else
“she wears strength and darkness equally well;
the girl has always been half goddess, half hell.”
Xin Qian chuckled as she clicked the ‘Publish’ button for the final submission of the latest chapter of the novel that she had been writing from past few months. It started as a time pass thing for her, she was bored, had no work to do and lacked the inspiration to paint. So as she was surfing through the ideas to pass time, the idea of reading/writing a story got her interested. Initially, she had thought to read only but then the idea of a story struck her and she wrote down the prologue.
The story/novel that she was working on was about how a woman who had been severely wronged in the past, comes back with a new identity to take revenge and falling in love while she plots and plans murders [1]. The plot caught the interest of many and soon enough her novel gained the number 1 position in its genre. What started as a time pass has now become an addiction for her. Xin Qian totally enjoyed writing!
After publishing the latest chapter, she clicked the link to her novel and began reading the chapter that she had just updated. Her mind struck onto the quote that she had written at the end of the chapter, “she wears strength and darkness equally well; the girl has always been half goddess, half hell.”
She sighed and leaned back on the chair thinking how apt this quote was for her as well. Those who didn’t know about her, those who weren’t aware of her true nature, thought of her as the innocent angel, a goddess. But those who knew her deeply, and are aware of her true personality, know how much of hell can she be. Zhao Xin Qian is a woman made up of equal parts light and darkness and she hoped that Wang Yong will be able to accept both the sides of her personality.

Next Day
Xin Qian woke up with a smile on her face and a bed head. Rubbing off the sleep from her eyes, she hopped off the bed and started with the routine of getting ready. Today she decided to wear a pair of ripped jeans and paired it with a white spaghetti top and a long shrug, black in color that had floral prints all over it. The arms of the shrug were as such that the tattoo on her wrist, which was hidden by the long sleeve of her one-shoulder jumpsuit that she wore yesterday, was completely visible. It was a simple tattoo, a small quotation. ‘one of a kind’ was tattoed on the side of her wrist in an elegant script.
Some would think that she was bragging but those who knew her, knew how much of a truth was the tattoo she had. She’s indeed one of a kind, absolutely unique.
She arrived at the breakfast table, with a usual smile on her face but a new kind of glint in her eyes, “Good morning!” she wished her parents and Yu Yan as she sat on her chair.
“So how was your first meeting with the Wangs?” asked her father.
“It was good. Wang Yong’s parents are nice but I didn’t get to meet his brother.” Xin Qian replied.
“It is great that they accepted you, I was worried otherwise.” her father smiled sadly while her stepmother kept eating her breakfast ignoring the conversation.
“I am really apologetic Xin Qian. Had I and Li Qiang not be in love with each other then you wouldn’t have to marry a man like Wang Yong.” Xin Qian wanted to roll her eyes and the statement and fake apology that Yu Yan just made.
“What are you trying to imply, dear sister? Wang Yong is an amazing person.” said Xin Qian.
“His personality may be as you say but he is handicapped..” before Yu Yan could continue further, Xin Qian decided to interrupt, feeling protective for Wang Yong.
“So what?” Xin Qian dropped the fork that she was holding on her plate, “Just because he is physically handicapped that doesn’t mean that he is incapable or incompetent. Not to brag but he is million times better than any other man.” she said indirectly hinting towards Li Qiang.
“Wang Yong is called a God in the business field for a reason. He’s a person of great intellect, is kind and has a great heart. He is no way lesser than any other man. In fact, he is much better.” Xin Qian added with a fond smile on her face and felt extremely happy when she noticed the annoyance shining on Yu Yan’s face.
“Uuumm, I don’t have an appetite.” Xin Qian smiled, “Actually I am excited about meeting Wang Yong again, today we are going to decide about the changes that I want to make in our house. I’ll take the leave then. Bye, everybody!” Xin Qian pushed away her plate that contained untouched food and walked away. She would rather starve than stay and bicker with Yu Yan.
****************
Xin Qian arrived at Wang Yong’s house after an hour-long drive. This time she didn’t chicken out like before and directly drove her car inside, stopping in front of the house. A servant led her to the small dining area at the back of the house where Wang Yong was having his breakfast.
“Good morning!” she wished.
“Good morning, indeed. Come, have a seat.” he said gesturing towards the chair opposite to him, “Would you like to have something?” he asked.
“Do you have more of what you are eating?” she asked pointing at his bowl of rice noodles, feeling her stomach grumble lightly due to hunger. She was never the one to miss a meal, no matter what the situation was, but today Yu Yan had angered her by the comment that she made on Wang Yong that Xin Qian couldn’t stay and eat while sitting beside Yu Yan.
“Of course.” Wang Yond didn’t question it and asked his servant to bring a bowl of noodles for her.
“So.” this was Wang Yong’s attempt to initiate a conversation.
“So?” asked Xin Qian as she happily munched on her noodles.
“Shall we continue our conversation from yesterday? Don’t you think that you should start telling me about yourself?” he asked.
“What do you want to know?” Xin Qian asked, replying to his question with a question of her own.
Wang Yong thought about it from two minutes as to what should he ask her about first. Her likes, dislikes? Her professional life or about her past relationships? Should he ask her that whether she has or had a lover or not?
There were so many questions in his mind but he finally chose to ask, “What do you think about my condition? Doesn’t it bother you that you are going to marry a disabled person?”
Xin Qian tilted her head a little and looked at Wang Yong, “Haven’t you heard them saying that no person is disabled but actually differently abled. Your condition doesn’t define the man you are, you are much more than that. Plus I am actually jealous that you have a permanent seat to sit while others have to stand, sometimes for painfully long hours.”
Her answer earned her a heartfelt laughter from him. Her answer to his question had actually made him feel genuinely happy, “You know this is the first time that someone considered my condition as an advantage.” he wiped his face with a napkin, “I am thankful.” he added, really feeling happy that Xin Qian didn’t view his condition as a disability or something to be sympathetic about.
Xin Qian smiled widely at him in response before picking up the glass of water to drink. It was then that Wang Yong noticed the tattoo that she had on the side of her wrist, “One of a kind, hhmm.” he muttered softly.
Xin Qian placed the glass back on the table and stared at Wang Yong, trying to decipher his reaction about her tattoo. Wang Yong looked directly into her beautiful forest green colored eyes as he said, “You are one of a kind, indeed.” his tone shone with the approval and his eyes had that glint that showed as to how much genuine his reply was. He still hadn’t uncovered her true nature but he definitely knew that Zhao Xin Qian was indeed one of a kind. Something else.
