Freya checked her phone when she got back to the office.
She had received a text message from Ashley.
(Darling, I did not expect your husband to suddenly appear at the restaurant. Are you alright?)
Freya exhaled and composed a reply.
[He didn’t do anything to me. It’s not like he can eat me alive, right? I’m good. What did Mr Anderson say?]
After replying to Ashley, Freya put down the phone and found a potentially big client’s number and dialed it.
Before long, the call went through.
Freya smiled and said, “Hi, Mr. Davis. I am Freya Keller from Carter Group. We spoke earlier…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Mr. Davis interrupted her. “Ms. Keller, I remember you. Hasn’t the company already assigned a new representative to work with me?”
“Is that so? I was on extended leave previously, so I wasn’t able to contact you as regularly.”
“Jennifer Martin has been talking to me. Why don’t you check with her? Sorry, I have to go.”
Freya pondered and said, “Sure thing. Thanks, Mr. Davis.”
After hanging up the phone, Freya turned to look at Jennifer. She was looking in the mirror when Freya called her. “Hey, Jennifer.”
Jennifer turned to look at Freya coldly. “Yes?”
Freya pointed at Mr. Davis’ information and said, “Have you gotten in touch with this client?”
Jennifer glanced at the information and replied matter of factly, “Yes, I have. He is my client. Why would you have access to his file?”
Freya could not help feeling surprised when she saw Jennifer’s attitude.
She smiled and did her best to sound polite. “I already got in touch with him before I went on leave. He is a very good client. Also, I have already come up with a proposal and quotation.”
Jennifer did not buy what she said. “Really now? I have already met Mr. Davis in person twice and the contract has been settled. Now, I am simply waiting for him to send the money.”
She looked sideways at Freya and said in a high pitched voice, “Freya, you already have Mr. Carter. Do you have to fight with me over a client?”
The moment Jennifer finished her sentence, everyone in the sales department turned and looked over.
A sales representative said, “Freya, how could you steal Jennifer’s client? Our department has always been tight-knit. How could you make the atmosphere so tense?”
Another sales representative said, “That’s right. Mr. Carter already treats you differently. You should really focus on him instead of fighting over a client.”
Other sales representatives also chimed in and took Jennifer’s side.
Freya was not about to let Jennifer openly steal a client. She looked at everyone and said calmly, “I wasn’t fighting for anything. I was just defending myself. I do not have the backing of Mr. Carter, so please mind your words.”
Jennifer scoffed. “You already got into the man’s car, so you are not far away from getting into his bed altogether. Stop acting like a saint already!”
Freya frowned and stared at Jennifer. “How could you say that?”
Jennifer rolled her eyes and scoffed in contempt.
More and more people started taking Jennifer’s side. The rest of the department looked at each other without saying a word.
Carol was sitting the closest to them, so she witnessed everything. She pulled Freya. “Time to work. Stop wasting your time arguing with her.”
Freya wanted to speak, but Carol pulled her back to her seat.
Carol looked at Freya and comforted her. “Don’t get into an argument over a single client. It’s not worth it. You are just falling for her trap!”
Even though Carol was comforting Freya, Jennifer had caught every word she had said.. “Carol, what is the meaning of this?”
