Horror Short Stories - Chapter 14
The quest, to gather spirits began. I mounted my horse. Raising my arms to the starry Night sky I was filled with anticipation and a certainty, that whatever stands in my way will be executed. The way to a higher realm was what my journey was. Only with the collection of spirits and life force will I be able to transcend. This was the enlightenment I got from binding myself to a higher creature of the darker side. I realized that only with the combination of harmony and disharmony is it possible to go on further. The harmonious side was already accomplished in the past, with the finished apprenticeship by a shaman. So now I am on my journey to complete the dark ways.
In the following years, I managed to find and hunt down the greater spirits of a relative of the old dragons and a crow elder. Those two should be the best and maximum souls a human body can contain. The real problem lied however after that. The nature of men can only handle one bond at a time. So even though I had the optimal souls to use, I didn’t have the method to bind them. Through many experiments I then found one; Life. In theory it works like this: One man can contain one bond, so if one makes the bond while using the life of other people the bond can be made. Of course it wasn’t that easy for every bond the amount of life needed, to go against nature, was increasing exponentially.
As theory dictated the plan, I started to look for a human encampment. I currently only stay in enemy territory, and wasn’t home for years. Because of that, it was relatively easy to find one. Nearby was the tribe of Cherokee.
The preparations were done fast, in contrast to the years I spend finding compatible spirits. After just weeks I had information about the location, warriors and other possible obstacles in my way. The plan was easy. I would sneak in assassinate their greatest warriors and the shaman. After this I would start a ritual, that would let me farm the lives. With the whole life of a tribe it should be possible to make the bond with the second spirit from the other side of the Great Spirit.
When the sun set, to make place for the new moon, I started to make my move. The warriors patrolling the area had a very predictable schedule. Every 5 minutes they would make a round and after sit on a campfire a little outside of the encampment. So sneaking in wasn’t a problem at all. The bigger difficulty was, to find the exact tents, where the shaman and the other great warriors lived. The tent of the shaman was the first I found. Unlucky for me, he had to be a pretty good one, because the moment I slit his throat and the blood started to gush out, he actually completed a spiritual shout. The cry alarmed the other warriors of the tribe, who could connect to the Great Spirit. With that it was only a matter of time till everybody here was awake and searching for me.
Cursing internally, I turned around to escape. When I left the tent, silent like a shadow, I already heard my horse of hell neigh in the Night. I didn’t need to wait for long till he was by my side. As I mounted him I knew I would escape safe and unseen, no horse could possible contest with him in speed.
