I Accidentally Saved The Male Lead’s Brother - Chapter 71
Charlotte decided to tell the truth first.
“Theo was trying to touch the picture so I tried to stop him….”
Theo, who grabbed his fingers, followed Charlotte to apologize.
“I’m sorry .”
Robert sighed and rubbed his temples. He didn’t say anything for a moment, as his head was filled with chaos.
At the frightening serious mood, Charlotte calmed Theo down, waiting for Robert’s response.
After a while, Robert straightened up his expression and opened his mouth.
“Don’t tell anyone what you saw today.”
“yes I will .”
“I need to clean the room, so please leave first.”
“Alright .”
Charlotte grabbed Theo and hurriedly left the room. Robert closed the door and quickly disappeared.
‘Is that really all?’
Charlotte looked at him as he walked away.
The former Duke and Duchess of Heinst trusted Robert and Randru who cast the spell.
There was a simple reason why Robert and Randru’s memories had not been erased. If anything happens to Carcel, they would need someone to deal with it. Just like today.
However, Robert’s response was much simpler than expected. ” Don’t tell anyone” was an easy reply, relying solely on Charlotte’s conscience.
‘I won’t say anything but….’
What will he do if I tell Carcel? And Theo is a kid who can say everything out loud.
Charlotte appealed to Theo with an uneasy heart.
“Theo, could you not tell your brother that you saw your mother today?”
Because, by no means should Theo tell Carcel that he saw Edgar.
“Ah! Secret!”
Theo put his index finger on his mouth. Charlotte smiled at him and headed to the room.
***
After seeing his mother’s picture, Theo regained his energy. He ate the snacks Emma had brought, and he ate all his dinner.
“Sister! I ate everything!”
“Yes well done .”
Charlotte proudly complimented Theo as he showed his empty plate, looking at the empty seat across from her.
Carcel sent a message that he was busy and couldn’t have dinner with them.
‘I was going to talk to him about the picture in the evening.’
Charlotte had no intention of hiding all this from Carcel, although she did warn Theo not to tell Carcel in case he had made a mistake and finally told him about Edgar.
Theo was so depressed that she had to act without permission, but Carcel had to know that too.
The fact that Theo misses his mother, and that she showed Theo the picture of the former Duchess.
but…
‘I won’t tell him about Edgar.’
I decided to keep quiet about Edgar Heinst.
It wasn’t something she had to say, and Carcel had no memories of Edgar so it was impossible to believe her.
In fact, there were more reasons than that.
‘I don’t know how Carcel will react when he finds out about Edgar.’
This fact was even the Duke and Duchess concealed it, means that they had decided that this fact would harm him.
Can an extra handle such a secret? The answer came easily.
‘I can’t do that.’
So it was decided to talk only about the late duchess.
However, Charlotte was a little worried.
How will Carcel react when he finds out that she has shown Theo a picture of his mother?
She thought she couldn’t guess his reaction very well.
She only spent a month with him. She didn’t have enough time to get to know someone she meets from time to time.
This might be a long time for some, but it was short for them at least.
Charlotte and Carcel had so few conversations together that she could count them by hand, ignoring the fact that they were engaged.
Anyway, the main conversations they were having was about Theo.
Recently, he has been spending more time with them, having breakfast and dinner together, but there were no private conversations while eating.
Carcel wasn’t that chatty, and Charlotte was also busy helping Theo with meals.
No, that was just an excuse. In fact, she did not actively search for Carcel.
It was because it was firmly established in her mind that she was the one who would leave this place soon anyway.
‘Even Carcel doesn’t look like he wants to talk about himself.’
However, Charlotte’s thoughts have changed quite a bit since she went to a festival with him some time ago.
Is it because I found out he’s the mysterious guy I’ve been thinking about for the past two years?
Perhaps it was because I found out what happened with this teddy bear man.
If not, is it because of the deep feelings he confessed about in the past?
I couldn’t ignore it anymore. If even then I was just a bystander I might feel like reaching for him.
I can’t be his real fiancée, but I wondered if I could become a friend who would listen to his feelings from time to time.
‘But even before I became his friend, I had an accident.’
She did not regret showing the Duchess’ portrait without telling Carcel.
If I hadn’t shown him the picture, Theo’s wounds would have become deeper and it would have been difficult for him to recover.
But she was afraid that his heart would close again, when he finally opened up.
‘Wait, why the hell am’I concerned about Carcel’s heart?’
When I first came here, I never wanted to win Carcel’s heart.
Even when Charlotte was convincing herself of this, she couldn’t get rid of her anxiety.
***
Carcel only returned after Theo fell asleep. Charlotte did not go to bed, waited for him, and went out into the hallway.
“Duke.”
When he was about to enter the office, he looked back. Chase, who was following him and explaining something, bowed when he saw Charlotte.
“Oh, you must have been working.”
“I’m not.”
Carcel calmly ordered Chase.
“It’s getting late today, you can leave for today.”
“Aright, see you tomorrow. I hope you have a good night too.”
Chase bowed to Charlotte again with an unknown smile.
Charlotte was confused whether that smile meant thank you for letting me go home and off work or if it had a different meaning.
But she quickly got rid of that thought and told Carcel, who was staring at her.
“Can I talk to you for a moment?”
Carcel gently opened the door.
“Let’s go inside.”
He didn’t ask what was going on.
With this slight change, Charlotte definitely felt that the distance between them was getting smaller since the festival.
Carcel offered Charlotte a seat and was about to ring the bell to call Robert.
Charlotte sat up and said quickly.
“No, it’s okay, I don’t want to drink anything.”
She casually spoke of something that had suddenly crossed her mind.
“Did you have dinner?”
“Yes,I did .”
“Was it a simple meal or a proper meal?”
Charlotte’s eyes already narrowed with suspicion because he had the same attitude before.
Carcel answered confidently, took off his jacket and hung it on a chair.
“Yes, I had dinner with Chase at a restaurant in the downtown area.”
Then he sat in front of me.
“This restaurant is famous for dessert. Next time you get a chance, it would be nice to go with Theo.”
“But I can’t go out with Theo…”
Charlotte, who responded, “Isn’t there a risk factor despite the escorts?” She was speechless for a while at Carcel’s reply.
“If you go, I’ll be with you, so you don’t have to worry.”
Carcel naturally pooped up by the time Theo and Charlotte were together.
He was the kid’s older brother, so it was normal in a way, but it was weird for the three of them to be together.
It wasn’t stressful or hesitant. I felt weird somehow.
‘We really look like family.’
Charlotte nodded exaggeratedly on purpose to get rid of this strange feeling.
“Okay, let’s go once before we go back to the Duchy.”
“Good .”
In the end, Carcel looked at Charlotte without speaking to her. It was like asking her quietly to speak if she had anything to say.
Charlotte groaned a little, barely opening her mouth.
“Actually, I showed Theo a picture of the duchess today.”
Carcel showed no reaction. He didn’t get mad at me for doing something arrogant and he didn’t ask me why.
As he clenched his right hand repeatedly, he asked seriously.
“Did Theo want it?”
“Yes. Looks like Theo misses his mother. While playing with Danny these days he saw Danny and Irina and wondered why he didn’t have a mother.”
Charlotte explained Theo’s behavior over the past few days.
Theo couldn’t eat properly because he was anxious, and cried while listening to the story of the little bunny Toto, and even asked Charlotte why she wasn’t Theo’s mother.
Carcel quietly listened to her explanation.
“I guess I know why the Duke hasn’t told Theo his mother’s story yet. However, I don’t think this will work.”
Carcel took a deep breath. His chest went up and down hard.
Charlotte dropped her head looking at her tightly clenched fist .
The image of the man who had been suffering for two years was repeatedly painted on her mind.
“Why don’t you tell Theo about the Duchess?”
“…….”
“I know I was being arrogant but I couldn’t let go of it.”
“….did Theo like it?”
