I Became A System - Chapter 193
“Miss Noelle, can we ask?” O78 asked as soon as we started continuing our venture.
Right now, we are supposed to go to their base. And apparently, they are a secret society.
For me, it sounds like the underworld, but a secret from normal society. Was it like that? I think their version is like that here.
Ellena faced at 078 who was leading the way. Other witches were covering us by inspecting the area around us.
“What is it?” Ellena responded.
“How could you defeat that monster? I heard it was an A to S rank monster. By yourself, you killed it?” 078 asked once again..
So she was curious about it, and although I think that for them to think it was supposed to be normal since they are stronger than normal people, they still have the luxury of being amazed.
Well, perhaps, despite the amazing feats they can do, defeating a monster that strong was some kind of above the standard.
“I guess, I didn’t tell you. I am a White Gold Ranker in the adventurers’ guild.” Ellena merely said without explaining further.
“But it was still out of logic. Does that mean you are really strong?”
“Why are you even curious about it?”
“Well, that monster can’t be even soloed by a Platinum Ranker.”
Right. It was so strong that even a Platinum Ranker couldn’t defeat it. However, Ellena was just at an advantage since we caught it off guard. If not for that small variable, Ellena probably wouldn’t have won that fight.
“It was all luck. I caught it off guard.” Ellena said.
It was the appropriate answer Ellena could give, since explaining further would make things more confusing. Ellena isn’t like them either, actually. It was just because of the Fear System that she could possess different abilities.
But these people… they have different powers. They can control mana roughly, and perhaps even have their cores observed.
The reason why we took this risk was to learn it properly. I can feel like I had a grasp of the idea to implement it on Ellena, but somehow it would take a long time.
I still need to run through the data that is limited because of the monopoly of influential people.
But I can create my own idea. However, it must be run through research.
It would take time.
“If you say so. You are mysterious.” 078 merely said, continuing with her words.
Ellena raised her eyebrow inwardly and asked, “Aren’t witches mysterious as well?”
“You could think of it. But we are only mysterious to protect ourselves. The contempt of the continent towards us with black hair is still widespread. You got lucky when you learned how to change your hair color. How did you even do it?”
“Why? Do I need to answer that?”
“Well, you are not obliged.” Then 078 chuckled awkwardly.
I am still curious about some things and was daring to ask Ellena about them, but somehow, she felt like asking the same question before I could even relay it to her.
“Why do you recruit or take cursed children? It was the reason, right? You saved the cursed children, then caused a ruckus, and eventually, the legend about witches emerged.”
“It is. However, it was only so that the children could have a chance to live with us peacefully. You know, they have been tormented since childhood. But what will happen if we tell them they are powerful? They will probably be walking down the dark path.”
It was reasonable. Maybe the reason they were causing a ruckus while they were getting the children was that if the children sought revenge by knowing their power, they’d be disappointed.
“We can just tell them to not worry about it. If they seek revenge, it would be impossible since they already saw us doing it for them. In this way, they would choose to live peacefully.”
“But what if they choose to rule over normal people?” Ellena asked, as well, it was also tingling me. Perhaps they have something to do to remove that mindset from them?
“It is possible. But we teach them how to control and contain their greed since cursed children like us are rare. Of 1000 born, 3 might be cursed children.” 078 explained.
Ellena just nodded and didn’t ask any further. Maybe it was her way of assessing if they could be trusted.
But I think they can’t be trusted at the moment, but they are safe to be with since they aren’t really that unlogical, unlike what the records tell people.
If witches are really power-hungry people that want to cause havoc on normal people, they have already done it.
But I can’t remove the fact that they might be just waiting for a chance.
“By the way, did your family treat you unfairly because of your hair and eyes?” 078 asked.
“Yeah. I suffered a lot.”
It was brief, but Ellena’s words weighed heavier than they seemed. Because of it, 078 just nodded.
“Did you use your power to get revenge?”
“Why would I? Instead of wasting my time on it, I could save the people around me.”
Hearing it, 078 was speechless and somewhat dumbfounded. I guess she didn’t expect that.
Actually, Ellena’s justice persona was shaped by her trauma. Being helpless and with no one to lean on, she decided to become one for others. She wasn’t that loathful; she just took it as light prejudice.
She is reasonable.
Revenge can only relieve her slightly. And even for me, it will be slightly different. But even if Ellena doesn’t want to take revenge, I will be willing to do it. I still hate them.
“I guess you are really like us. The reason we saved children like us was that they were powerless without our guide. And for you to create such a personality instead of loathing them, I am impressed. ”
Ellena just looked at her without making any sound. And it continued until the journey continued.
The company was just silent. Cules was carrying Ellena and Gero, and the witches were clearing the path from monsters.
It was still a forest. Woods were still on our way normally, but for some reason, I had something that I didn’t expect to happen.
Well, it was one of the forgotten mechanisms from the Fear System that I didn’t realize that we had already triggered.
The [Title].
Indeed, the title was something prominent in the Fear System that has the effect of making everyone fear the host but after some time, they’ll forget what happened.
And this time, a title appeared next to the [Cursed Child] title.
“Integrating the new title, [Dreadful Legend]…” I unconsciously stated that took Ellena’s attention.
‘Aaron?’
And without actually explaining it to Ellena, the status appeared without Ellena’s words.
