Chapter 17: Li Yonggang Starts to Feel Proud of Himself!
Mu Qingqing knew that Li Yonggang’s sudden change in behavior was definitely related to Bai Zhou, but she couldn’t figure out how Bai Zhou had managed to do it. However, she remained calm and simply said: “Hmm, sit down.”
Her tone remained cold. After all, Li Yonggang was still the villain from the original novel.
Although he was sharp and ruthless when it came to managing the family business, commercial affairs, or dealings in the gray areas of society, when it came to anything involving the male and female leads, he was completely brainless!
Adding to that was his explosive temper.
He had already swallowed his pride and come here to apologize, got blocked by the security at the door, and now she was giving him the cold shoulder after he offered flowers?!
Doesn’t she know how many women line up to throw themselves at me the moment I show up with flowers? And yet she’s playing hard to get here? Damn it …
Standing slightly behind Li Yonggang, Bai Zhou immediately noticed that something was off with his mood. Although Bai Zhou didn’t want to get involved in the messy situation between Li Yonggang and Mu Qingqing, if things escalated, the original protagonist Chu Yun would surely have an opportunity to swoop back in!
And Bai Zhou, well, he just couldn’t stand Chu Yun!!
So, he stepped forward, gently placing a hand on Li Yonggang’s shoulder, and whispered in his ear: “Young Master, when you’ve visited Mu Hai Group in the past, have you ever been invited to sit down?”
“Hm?” Li Yonggang’s anger immediately subsided after hearing Bai Zhou’s words!
“That’s right! In the past, when I came here, I was stopped at every turn. I couldn’t even get into her office before being kicked out! But today, Mu Qingqing herself asked me to sit down! Isn’t this … a step forward?”
Li Yonggang looked back at Bai Zhou gratefully and nodded: “You’re right, you’re absolutely right!”
With that, he sat down on the sofa, still holding the bouquet, and even had a look of eager anticipation on his face.
Seeing this, Bai Zhou could only shake his head helplessly: “As expected, the original novel’s setting makes villains lose their minds in front of the male and female leads!”
Watching this unfold, Mu Qingqing became even more convinced that it was Bai Zhou who had influenced Li Yonggang’s behavior.
“What exactly is Bai Zhou’s role in the Li family that even this arrogant rich brat listens to him so obediently?!”
This puzzle continued to gnaw at Mu Qingqing’s mind.
Bai Zhou, meanwhile, calmly took a seat nearby.
The office fell into silence, the only sound being the occasional flipping of documents by Mu Qingqing. The longer the silence stretched, the more it tested Li Yonggang’s patience.
Just as Li Yonggang was starting to grow restless, Mu Qingqing finally made a move. She called over her secretary, Chen Su.
Chen Su quickly approached, and Mu Qingqing whispered something to her. Though it was unclear what was said, Chen Su’s eyes widened in shock and curiosity. She even hesitated for a moment and reconfirmed Mu Qingqing’s instructions.
After receiving a nod from Mu Qingqing, Chen Su turned around, gulping nervously as she walked toward the sofa.
Li Yonggang, thinking Chen Su was coming over to him, shifted forward in his seat.
But instead, Chen Su looked directly at Bai Zhou and said, “Sir, could you please step outside with me?”
“Hm?” Bai Zhou, sitting casually with his legs crossed, raised an eyebrow and glanced at Mu Qingqing.
He understood right away that this was Mu Qingqing’s arrangement. Without overthinking it, he stood up.
“Bai Zhou, where are you going?”
This question came from Li Yonggang! It was as if, without Bai Zhou around, Li Yonggang had lost his sense of direction and became visibly anxious.
With a touch of resignation, Bai Zhou leaned down and whispered in Li Yonggang’s ear: “Once I leave with the secretary, who will be left in the office?”
It’ll just be me and Mu Qingqing?!!
Li Yonggang’s eyes immediately filled with undisguised excitement and joy.
That’s right! This is a one-on-one situation!!
He quickly nodded and said, “Go ahead! Hurry!”
Bai Zhou was all too familiar with Li Yonggang’s reactions, so he wasn’t surprised. Without saying more, he followed Chen Su out of Mu Qingqing’s office.
Once they stepped outside, Chen Su made a gesture and said, “This way, please, Mr. Bai.”
“Hm?” Bai Zhou’s interest was piqued, but he followed without showing it.
Chen Su led him past other employees’ workstations, bringing him to a door right behind Mu Qingqing’s office. Opening the door, it revealed a small, cozy space. There was a coffee table, two sofas, and on the other side, a small door.
Bai Zhou knew right away that this door led directly to Mu Qingqing’s office!
He also recognized this room from the middle portion of the novel, where Chu Yun had helped Mu Qingqing take back her family’s company—this was the room where he had “advised from behind the curtain.”
Bai Zhou couldn’t help but chuckle. He knew that Mu Qingqing must have wanted to speak with him privately.
Well, there’s no choice but to go along with it.
He shrugged and sat down.
“Please enjoy some tea, Mr. Bai,” Chen Su said as she poured him a cup of tea. Without saying another word, she quietly left the room and closed the door behind her.
Just as Bai Zhou was finishing his cup of tea, the door on the other side of the room made a soft creaking sound as it opened.
