I Became the Tyrant’s Translator - Chapter 13
Michael was silent, but Leticia chatted regardless.
“Oh, Michael must know the Crown Prince better than I do. He’s as scary as the rumors are, right? That’s why I don’t want to be his maid. I came all the way here because I wanted to run away somehow.”
Leticia sighed. When she saw the restless Michael, she was not at ease.
“I’m sorry. I only talked about difficult things. I’ll be here until tomorrow morning. Shouldn’t you be back home by then?”
Michael’s face crumpled up.
“Okay, okay.”
Leticia smiled and headed towards the artificial waterfall. She was prepared for the feeling that her hands would freeze because it was dusk, but to her surprise, she felt just warm enough water flow out of the waterfall.
After washing her face, Leticia murmured languidly.
“I could live here forever.”
“Bubble.”
“All right, I’ll stop talking nonsense.”
Leticia was slightly depressed, but she didn’t show it. Michael was right. I couldn’t spend my whole life here.
“How long will Michael be here? If you’re running away from home, you’re going to stay long.”
“Hamster wheel.”
The wheel returns to the same position no matter how many times it rolls. Michael was saying he intended to go home after all.
“That’s not running away from home.”
Leticia muttered a little startled.
“Running away is…. Forever, that’s what you should do if you’re going to run away. To a place where they will never find you.”
“Unicorn.”
The unicorn was synonymous with the impossible existence. The villagers at Leticia’s hometown used to say, ‘it’s like a unicorn!’ when something outrageous happened.
“What do you mean impossible. I’ve already.”
“……”
“Then, why did you run away from home when you were going to end up going back?”
“…….”
“It’s okay, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to. That’s why I’m running away from home anyway because it’ll be similar.”
Leticia met several runaway girls like herself in the capital.
They were girls who came out because they hated their family like she did and couldn’t stand having a family.
“My mother, my father, my grandmother and Paddington…. I hate them all, that’s why I left the house. They all lied to me and took advantage of me.”
Before she knew it, Leticia’s voice was trembling with anger. She was embarrassed by the tears running down her cheeks, but she couldn’t stop her words.
She told Michael how she had been treated by her family and how she ran away from home.
Except for the story about being struck by lightning.
It would be too shocking for a child.
Michael spouted confusing words one by one in the middle.
Leticia could understand all the words, which were all words to comfort her.
Then Leticia remembered a fact that she had completely forgotten.
“Ah, brooch!”
“Tomb?”
Leticia sighed in regret. Michael was asking if she hid it as properly as the day he gave the brooch.
“I’m sorry. It was taken away.”
It was a moment, but Michael’s face flamed with anger. Leticia flinched for a moment and continued.
“It was well hidden, but when the thief stole something else, all the maids were searched. It was taken away by Baron Jefferson who discovered…. And now it seems that Lord George has it.”
Michael’s eyes widened in surprise. His eyes looked like he was wondering why it was with Lord George.
“It’s obvious. He must have taken it because it was expensive.”
“……”
“Didn’t your parents scold you a lot for giving it to me? I’m terribly sorry. I hid it in my bed just in case I lost it while moving…..”
Leticia cried again but covered her face with her hands because she was ashamed to keep crying in front of a boy younger than her.
A warm hand gently pulled her hands away from her face and put a soft handkerchief on her hand.
Just like that day.
“Thank, thank you.”
Leticia blinked, hoping her tears would dry as soon as possible, but it didn’t work at all.
Michael spoke quietly.
“Boomerang.”
“You’re going to get it back? How?”
“Smelt.”
Leticia blinked. The smelt was a raw chewed fish.
Michael was going to meet Lord George and would tell the whole truth himself.
“You want to talk to Lord George in person and get it back? That’s outrageous!”
Instead of answering, Michael hugged Leticia tightly. Leticia’s face heated up a little. Michael was definitely a little shorter than Leticia, but she could feel the warmth like being wrapped in a thick blanket.
“You don’t have to do such a dangerous thing because of me, Michael.”
“Sparrow.”
“Yes, Lord George may not be a dangerous man at all like a sparrow. But the Crown Prince is different. What would you do if the Crown Prince hated you and your parents because you did something like that?”
“Unicorn.”
“It can’t be impossible!”
However, Michael’s persistence did not break at all. In the end, Leticia raised both her hands and feet.
“All right, Michael. But just know this one thing. It’s okay if I don’t get the brooch back. It’s just that you gave it to me, and I’m sorry I lost it…..”
Leticia’s words suddenly stopped.
“You know, can I be a maid at your house?”
The thought that popped into her head was incredible and solved all of Leticia’s problems.
‘I can say that I was originally going to be Michael’s maid.’
Leticia made up the whole story in her head.
She was going to get a job as a maid in his family because she rescued Michael from the mountains. The evidence was the brooch.
Michael dropped the brooch as he left the mountain in a hurry, and Leticia kept it safe to return it until she met Michael again.
As of now, there was no way to know how high aristocratic Michael’s parents were.
However, if he can freely walk around the Imperial Palace, he must be an aristocrat with fairly high status.
The Crown Prince was also highly likely to pass over one maid without making a big deal out of it.
But there was a big problem here. It was the fact that Michael had to keep up his words with Leticia in moderation.
Leticia waited impatiently for Michael’s answer.
She never thought that she might be the only one in the world to understand Michael.
Of course, Michael has a family, a nanny, and a friend. Doesn’t one of them understand Michael perfectly?
Leticia’s insides burned.
No matter how long she waited, Michael only tilted his head as if he had not grasped the situation properly.
Leticia hastily explained what an accomplished maid she was.
“I’m good at laundry and cleaning. I learned how to cook a little bit. I don’t know how, how high-status you are…. But I’m confident I won’t bother you. If there’s anything lacking. I’ll learn everything.”
“Grape.”
Leticia sighed in relief. She didn’t know exactly what it meant this time, but Michael liked the fruit. It’s definitely a positive thing.
“So you’re saying it’s okay?”
A smile came back.
“Thank you!”
Leticia half hugged Michael.
“Thank you so, so much….”
“What are you doing?”
Leticia froze as she hugged Michael. The owner of the voice from behind was Lors George.
“Get off.”
Lord George did not pose any threat to her, but she felt a cool blade.
Leticia hurriedly scrambled away from Michael.
“This, this is….”
“He’s not the kind of person who you can approach recklessly.”
“…..!”
Leticia’s body stiffened. Lord George was notorious for being loyal only to the Emperor in the novel.
It was Emperor Michael.
Exactly the same name as the boy she thought she knew well!
The stars flickered in front of her eyes and she could hear tinnitus. Leticia’s head came up with one conclusion just before she stopped thinking.
The Michael she knew, and the cruel Emperor Michael in the novel were the same people.
At that moment, Lord George’s voice pierced Leticia’s confusion.
“Your Highness, we’ve been looking for you for a long time. If you want to go somewhere quiet, just let me know. I’ll accompany you anytime.”
Michael, who stood up holding George’s hand, looked familiar but had a somewhat annoyed expression on his face.
“Thin ice.”
“……”
Lord George pursed his lips and looked like he wanted to say something, but in the end, he didn’t say anything.
“It’s no use.”
She swore to god, Leticia never knew what the hell she had ever said, why, or what she said at that moment.
Perhaps it was because of the despair that had brushed on Lord George’s face.
Perhaps it was Michael’s sigh when she confirmed that Lord George still did not understand what he was saying.
Leticia spouted it out, and it was way too late when she regretted it.
“What?”
Lord George immediately looked back at her. The warrior’s eyes glistened fiercely in the dusk.
“It’s nothing.”
Leticia immediately turned around, but it couldn’t have worked for a middle-aged knight who had been through a lot.
Instead of making unnecessary threats in front of the young lord, he placed his hand on the handle of the sword. It was enough to scare a 14-year-old girl.
“….Think of it as stepping on thin ice. You’ll fall into the water. If you stepped on the wrong spot.”
“What does it mean?”
Lord George looked as if he had not yet had a clue.
“So, Mi, Michael…. Even if your highness has told you what he wants, you always take him to the wrong place. So that’s why it’s useless…”
“Did Your Highness’ words just contain such a meaning?”
Lord George repeatedly asked, as if he could not believe it.
“How can I know that you’re not completely faking it?”
It was then.
Michael opened his mouth, pointing exactly at Leticia.
