“Yongrui, are you okay?”
As soon as I stepped into the portal, a series of notifications rang through my head as if they were some sort of inventory list. I also felt my skills activating, corresponding to the notifications given by the System. However, instead of me doing something about it, I could feel as if my body was acting on its own. The only plausible explanation for it was that Hui-ying and the System took over my body’s cultivation since I wouldn’t be able to handle it. In just a span of a split second, I felt all of my Qi Cores expanding, breaking, and condensing, giving me a dose of unfathomable pain. By the time I completely stepped through the portal, I was exhausted. I fell to the ground. And that’s when I heard Hui-ying ask me if I was doing okay.
“I don’t know, what happened? Are we all right?” I worriedly asked since I really felt like dying. After achieving breakthroughs upon breakthroughs, I should’ve felt my power exponentially increasing… but no. Right now, all I wanted was to take some rest and sleep.
Yan Sun and the old man looked behind them. Seeing me sprawled on the floor made them take one long and hard stare as if they just witnessed something crazy. Their eyes were wide open with shock, not to mention their jaws that hung in disbelief, almost touching the floor, to be honest.
“I-impossible!” The old man stuttered as his knees buckled and he fell to the ground. “This shouldn’t be happening!”
“Yes… usually, they die when they go up here, right? I told you, grandpa, he’s extremely talented.” Yan Sun exclaimed with fervor. “Now we can finally win the Black Spirit Tournament!”
“No, but… this has never happened for the past ten years! He’s one in a million, maybe even better. But how? How could anyone survive our atmosphere with potent Qi Energy? A normal human wouldn’t be able to.”
Well, that’s probably because I’m not really human. And also, there are two entities in my head.
Albeit dazed, I got up and took a look around the place. Unlike the Lower Plane where everything else is normal, and unlike the Middle Plane, the Higher Plane was like a giant throne room with its extravagant appearance. You know those ancient Chinese scroll paintings that feature rock formations that extended up to the heavens, with lush trees forming atop of them, and not to mention the wooden bridges that connected the rock formations? Yeah, that. It was like the gate to heaven itself, with pavilions on the top of the rock formations.
Some of the rock formations were larger than the others, this is where huge buildings such as coliseums and ancient palaces are built. I’m assuming those buildings are used for libraries, training, and also to hold competitions therein.
“You all right? We should head over to our house before anyone else sees you.” Yan Sun grabbed me by the hand and dragged me out of there. He was especially cautious, and I could tell that he didn’t want anyone finding out about my arrival on the Higher Plane.
The old man, his grandfather, quietly strode behind us, with his eyes darting from every direction. Just like Yan Sun, he also probably didn’t want anyone seeing me. As for me, I just let them drag me since there really was nothing I could do. One could say that I’m a pushover right now, but that’s because I have no idea what’s happening— and one wrong move could literally amount to my death.
Thinking about my previous decisions, I now know for a fact that I made the right one since offending these two would result in the annihilation of everyone in the Middle Plane. Fortunately, everything I did was enough to make them look away from the Sky Knights and the Sky Kingdom. If I didn’t do those on-the-spot decisions, it would’ve ended way worse. As I said before, the only thing I could do right now is to buy some time and try to get as strong as possible. With the help of Hui-ying and the System, I know I can do this.
Sigh~ seriously, I need a break. But it seems like the plot needs to move forward and I have to accomplish my goals as soon as possible. I mean, just a few minutes ago, the thought of coming up to the Higher Plane hasn’t even occurred to me. I thought I’d be able to spend some leisure time on the Middle Plane, ruling over my teeny tiny kingdom like a spoiled lord or something. But no, fate can be a cruel thing when it comes to unfortunate persons like me.
After walking through the meandering path on the bottom of the rock formations, we finally arrived at a certain rock formation that had stairs extending down to the foot of the rock formation. From afar, the rock formation looked like a pillar, but now that we’re near it, it resembled a pointy hill with stairs protruding all around it. On the first step of the stairs was something that resembled a torii gate, on which a wooden plate with the words ‘Gulong Sect’ were hung on top of it.
“We’re here! Welcome to the Gulong Sect, also known as the Gulong Household here in the Higher Plane. In the Lower Plane, they refer to themselves as Sects, in the Middle Plane, you refer to yourselves as Settlements, but here in the Higher Plane, we call ourselves households. Every household belonged to two clans in the past but now, there’s only one, the Yan Clan. Well, we can talk more about it later. For now, we officially welcome you to the Gulong Household!”
Ah, great.
