I Can Claim Daily Rewards - Chapter 210: Bombing the Targets
Not long later, the bodyguard who went out earlier returned and whispered something to Wilfredo’s ears. The latter’s face turned dark upon hearing his report. He then stared at Gregorio who was looking at him with a faint smile. Wilfredo didn’t know if Gregorio was taunting him, but he held himself back from reacting violently. “If we follow you to this settlement, what would our arrangements be?” He asked. After knowing the presence of a huge army outside the settlement, he decided to take a step back. He still valued his life more than his desire for power.
Gregorio’s smile deepened as he replied. “Mr. Wilfredo is a capable person so it’s only natural for you to receive a respected position in our territory. Once you arrive in our city, the officials will make the arrangements for you.” Of course, he was just bullshitting. Before coming to this settlement, they had already planned to capture this man the moment he was taken to Last City. He was a criminal and he didn’t deserve their protection.
Wilfredo was skeptical, but he had no choice but to believe his words. “I hope that you’re not lying to me, Sir Gregorio.” He forced out a smile.
The two chatted briefly before they bid farewell to each other. With Wilfredo’s approval, the army didn’t face any obstacles in gathering the people. Everyone was also happy to hear that the government had created a city for the citizens. Although they were safe here, they could only eat dried fish and they still had to work for Wilfredo to earn it. Living under the protection of the government seems more appealing than working for Wilfredo.
While the army was escorting the civilians out of the settlement, Wilfredo was livid. He thought that Gregorio would prioritize him after their negotiations, but he didn’t see him again after their last conversation.
Bang!
He slammed his table. “That damn bastard! He played with me! Does he think that I’m an idiot?!”
“Boss, please calm your anger! We can’t go against the military!” One of his loyal bodyguards quickly tried to appease his anger. He was worried that Wilfredo would do something terrible.
Wilfredo glared at him. “I spent my entire savings in building this place and they are just taking everything I worked hard without giving me anything in return!” His face turned red and he almost slapped his subordinate’s face in his moment of rage.
“Gather our people and tell everyone to come here.” Wilfredo uttered in a cold voice.
“Boss, you’re not going to go against them, are you?” His subordinate nervously asked.
“Fool!” Wilfredo glared at him. “I’m not idiotic enough to face the military. We are getting out of here. If one of those civilians reported our actions to the military, we might face severe consequences. It’s better for us to escape before they find out.”
Hearing this, his subordinate felt relieved. “Yes, boss! I’ll find everyone!”
Meanwhile, the Elliot siblings had already arrived at the Palawan rainforest. Clementine acted as the leader of this operation. Although her brother was more skilled in operating aircraft than her, she was more calculative and smarter.
The rainforest had already occupied a large portion of Palawan province. The trees had already reached the heights of the clouds, a very stunning sight for Clementine’s team. They even saw humongous creatures that looked like prehistoric beasts.
“What in the world is happening? Are we being punished by the gods?” Flynn uttered over the radio. The appearance of those creatures was like the prophesied catastrophe by the olden sages. He wasn’t a believer in myths, but the evidence was already in front of his eyes.
“Our mission is to bomb the location of the Red Devil Flowers. Let’s ignore those creatures for the time being.” Clementine maintained a clear head. The Red Devil Flower was the red flower that produced zombies. Arlan gave the flower this name since it was the most fitting based on its characteristics and appearance.
“Roger!” The bombing unit replied over the radio.
Soon, they went in separate directions. There were multiple targets and to eliminate them faster, they had to move separately. Each aircraft was equipped with enough firepower to destroy mountains so the team was confident in this mission.
Clementine headed to the location of the first Red Devil Flower sighted by their scouting drones. She maneuvered the fighter jet with sheer precision. The force of gravity seemed nothing to her. She was already injected with the Body Enhancing Serum so she could remain calm and clear-headed despite the high level of gravitational force.
With the speed of her aircraft, she quickly arrived at the location. Through the screen, she saw the image of the Red Devil Flower. It looked completely different than how it was before. The flower was three times its last size and it was producing a new type of zombie. There were also numerous zombies around it, acting as its loyal bodyguards.
Seeing this, Clementine sent the images to the headquarters. She felt like she had to report the unusual encounter. “I have a clear vision of the target. I await your command, boss.” She uttered.
On the other end of the line, Arlan calmly said. “Drop the bomb!”
“Roger!” Clementine replied before she pressed on the attack buttons. The missile on the aircraft was released and it produced a loud sound as it tore through the air.
When it landed on the target, an ear-piercing explosion rang out followed by the appearance of a huge cloud of dust in the shape of a giant mushroom. The shockwave of the explosion caused catastrophic destruction in the forest. The giant trees were covered in fire and the evolved creatures were also engulfed in flames. As for the Red Devil Flower, it already turned into dust under the fearsome heat caused by the explosion of the missile.
“Missile detonated.” She muttered. Clementine didn’t leave right away. She had to confirm that the Red Devil Flower was gone.
She waited for over thirty minutes for the dust to clear up. Soon, she saw a large crater in the middle of the rainforest. The Red Devil Flower was gone and the place was covered in flames. “Target eliminated.”
“Good job! Search the forest. There might be more Red Devil Flowers.” Arlan’s voice drifted into her ears.
“Yes, boss!” Clementine controlled the aircraft and left the scene.
Meanwhile, the others had also eliminated their targets. In total, the bomb unit managed to destroy more than twenty Red Devil Flowers.
The bomb unit returned to Last City to refuel.
After they left, a cleanup team entered the forest to recover some samples of the zombies, plant life forms, and evolved creatures. This team had over five hundred soldiers and they were led by five members of the Oorlewende Unit.
The leader of the cleanup team was Codename 11. He was a dark-skinned man with cleanly shaven hair. He was holding an M4A1 rifle as he looked at the surroundings.
“Sir, there is an evolved beast carcass up ahead.” A subordinate reported to him.
“Stop the vehicle and grab the carcass.” Codename 11 said.
“Yes, sir!” Two military trucks stopped in front of the evolved beast carcass. The corpse was as huge as an elephant and the cleanup team had to use some lifting equipment to load it into one of the trucks.
The corpse looked like a giant bear with red crystal-like spikes on its back. A huge portion of its skin was burned which was caused by the explosion of a missile. The bear must have been near one of the targets and it was unlucky enough to be caught up in the blast.
ROOAARRR!!!
After retrieving the corpse, Codename 11 asked ten soldiers to protect the carcass on their way out of the forest. He then commanded the cleanup team to head deeper into the forest.
ROOAARRR!!!
A roar of a beast suddenly echoed through the forest which alerted the team. Codename 11 asked the team to prepare for combat.
Rumble! Rumble!
The ground abruptly trembled and the sound of heavy footsteps echoed ahead of the team.
Soon, they saw an evolved beast that looked like a giant bull. Its body was covered in thick black hair and there were two sharp horns on the sides of its head. .
Seeing this behemoth, Codename 11 remained calm. “Kill it!” He commanded through the radio.
The cleanup team took out their heavy weapons and fired at the beast.
Ratatatatatatata!
Ratatatatatatata!
Booom! Booom!
Gunshots and the sounds of grenades exploding echoed.
The beast was hit by their bullets. Wounds started to appear all over its body, but it didn’t die immediately.
ROOOAARR!!
The huge bull charged towards them, causing the ground to shake violently.
Codename 11 grabbed an anti-tank rocket held by his subordinate and aimed it at the charging beast.
Swoosh!
BOOOM!!
The high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead exploded on the face of the beast!
The beast whimpered as it fell face-first into the ground. Because of the momentum of its charge, it rolled a few dozen meters before it collapsed on the foot of a giant tree.
